If you’ve watched Hyeyoon’s other dramas including Royal Inspector & Joy where she wasn’t dressed flamboyantly, I’m sure you’ll agree that she’s pretty, so this comment from the director and your defence of it is so unwarranted. You’re making it out to seem like this is her first romcom, she has always been pretty in all of her dramas, and has acted alongside very handsome male leads and no one has ever made this remark.

This is not a romantic drama, that the leads had little romantic chemistry was not by accident, because it would have detracted viewers from the main storyline. The show is primarily about our female lead’s journey, the pseudo romance with the male lead is simply an icing on the cake.

According to namu wiki, it’s actually crime, action, comedy, noir, thriller, detective and human growth. So expect a lot of comedy, especially with Lee Donghwi being part of the cast line up. I don’t see the cases here being as heavy as Taxi Driver.
