/!\ Big trigger warning in my review as I talk about some very traumatizing elements of the story including r*pe and p*dophilia, homophobia and toxic relationship. /!\Im not gonna lie, I was so excited when TharnType was annouced because I loved LBC so much. I happen to also love P'Mew a lot so yeah, I was ecstatic. But GOD how goddamn disappointing it was. I have so many issues with the story and so many problematic and dangerous factors for the entire lgbtqa+ community (which im a part of, for more clarity) are shown and this is not okay at all. The first thing that shocked me the most was how can you think it is realistic (and okay) to create a gay character and make him fall in love with a homophobic one. The dude is literally calling him a filthy f*g and telling him to get out of their shared room because he is gay. Like... no. Please, let him have some respect for himself for the goddamn love of god. Not realistic, not cute, not "omg poor him". Just... no. The second thing (that shocked me even more than the first one) is this like kinda background story for Type in a attempt to justify his despicable behavior. I don't even have the words for it. How, as a writer of Boy's Love story (aka you're supposedly at least someone who tolerates the lgbtqa+ community right?), can you think in your goddamn right mind that it's okay to justify your character's homophobic ways by making him the victim of a child predator? And make the gay character APOLOGIZING ABOUT IT????????????? At least use the trashy background story to EDUCATE bigoted people? Like "hey guys, being a child predator man who likes little boys has nothing to do with being gay", it's that simple. Literally THAT simple. I am astounded by that and not in the right way. The third thing is obviously this goddamn toxic relationship between Tharn and Type but hey, what can you expect from a love story between a gay dude and a homophobic piece of sh*t (and with a very very very bad reason too) (not that there is a good reason to be homophobic but come on this makes it even worse). Toxic relationships are not cute, not romantic, they are abusive and dangerous. It doesn't give you a happy ending, often leaves you very traumatized and can give you a lot of mental struggles in the aftermath such as depression and/or PTSD. Such a bad example of love to show in national television (and the rest of the world). Stop romanticizing toxic love. It is not. Last thing that comes to mind is Lhong. Why? Why... this awful character? Why does he get to walk free in the end? Shouldn't he be in jail for literally like... I don't know... organizing and filming a gang r*pe of a minor (and even if the boy was an adult for that matter)????????? Like the dude is sad and alone and all... but he's a criminal who did awful things, why is there no real repercussion for him? What was the purpose of the existence of such a terrible character if there is not even a real moral of his story? Is he just here just to be an atrocious son of a B? If so, why? I just don't get it. Anyway, I think you get the gist of what I think of TharnType. What makes me very sad is seeing how popular it is amongst the BL watchers community (and I've been a part of it for a long time) despite being this bad. I'm still going to watch season 2 and the extra content because I'm very curious to see if it gets actually better or... worse? But then again, is it really possible to make it worse than it already is? The 4 points I gave is for the casting and the incredible chemistry between Mew and Gulf. I really really loved the casting. It made me discovered good actors like Kaownah (despite the character he's playing, he's still very talented and cute I think. Loved him on Nitiman, love his couple with Turbo, can't wait to see him more!), or even Gulf. Everything else... is complete trash. 🤷♀️
