It’s really intriguing why people would care to disparage this drama to the point of attacking other people's…
Amen to just being happy with favorites and leaving other actors and dramas alone.

LIVE and LET LIVE! 😊

There are 8 billion people in the planet with DIFFERENT TASTES. There's enough market for many actors and dramas to co-exist. Killing the joy of fans who like actors and dramas different from one's favorites is plain MEAN and SELFISH.

Among the multilayered misunderstandings (everyone is welcome to add what I might have missed):- Shu Yi's misunderstanding…
In the end, this messy knot of misunderstanding after misunderstanding, aggravated by a protagonist who is confused about her own feelings thus sometimes feels one thing and says another, proves unequal to the power of LOVE. The messier the knot, the louder the sigh of relief at its disentanglement πŸ₯°

Living with fl everyday, ml will definitely get aged quickly. Good luck to him.
Quite the contrary. He'd be a curmudgeon if he doesn't have a playful and cheerful spark in his life like her. They're perfect for each other. They're similar in things that matter such as intelligence, integrity and passion to give back to society. And different in ways that would balance their quirkiness out - he tends to be serious and petty but thoughtful, she can be naughty and impulsive but lively.

One way to tell if you're getting the campy humor vital to enjoying this drama - if you find yourself chuckling at the phone interruptions and admiring the brilliance of the multi-layered misunderstandings.

'Just found an article that may explain why some viewers can't get this drama:
https://stevetobak.com/2018/12/25/millennials-have-no-sense-of-humor/

Of course, it doesn't mean all millennials have no sense of humor just as it doesn't mean all non-millennials have a sense of humor or that only millennials have no sense of humor. But it gives an idea why some viewers love this drama and why some don't get it.

oh, another addition, "I don't like Dylan and Bailu together, he should only be with my favorite actress and she should only be with my favorite actor!"

Thanks! 😊 I should add, "I'm so dying of envy of Dylan and Bailu. They have no business being more popular and handsomer/prettier than my favorite!"

It would be hard to go through the 13k+ comments in this thread, so here's a compilation of suggestions for those…
I'm the center of the universe and all writers and directors should pander to my expectations and what I perceive to be a drama's potential. I don't care about art or novelty. So you're saying this drama is not for me? Okay... But... but... but... I CANNOT NOT leave misleading reviews. I'm itching to badmouth this drama. How else can I make my favorite actor and drama look good if i don't badmouth Dylan, Bailu and this drama?

This drama is about imperfect individuals who grow up with their relationships. I repeat, the characters are imperfect…
Having expectations is normal. What is unreasonable is when the expectations are not logical. As another viewer pointed out, this drama has lead characters that are both related to business - she's a reporter for a financial magazine and he's a CEO of a venture capital firm. Expecting a drama with these lead characters to not have business talks is not logical. And lambasting a drama for not meeting illogical expectations is indeed unreasonable, if not ridiculous.

This clamor for dramas to meet even unreasonable expectations is but a reflection of our egocentric society empowered by social media. Viewers have made dramas about themselves, their expectations, their perceived potential of the drama. A drama is now required to cater to whatever the viewers expect it to be. If it does not meet expectations, it gets reviled, instead of those making unreasonable expectations accepting the fact that their expectations are unreasonable and appropriately keeping quiet. Sadly, social media has empowered such unreasonable behavior.

I agree 100%. I'm incredulous reading reviews criticizing the FL and ML for not being what they're expected to…
Love your phrase "wallow in stagnation". It perfectly captures the inflexibility of viewers who tend to put dramas and characters in boxes of their making and can't abide novelty, refusing to think outside those boxes.

Having just read some comments about this drama, I found another reason for the negative reviews, aside from YXH and haters. It's about expectations.

The drama seems and initially feels fluffy, perhaps because of the generic title, but as the quirks of the characters are exposed, like Shu Yi being flaky and Shi Yan appearing to be petty, different types of viewers are affected differently.

Those who expect this to be all about romance and sweetness, as the title seems to suggest, get turned off when it goes deeper and are violently repelled when they are required to put thinking caps on. Woe, the business talks! If you belong to this category, I suggest you steer clear of this drama.

Those who like dramas that keep their brain cells working relish the multi-dimensional characters and multi-layered story. If you belong to this category, enjoy the campy and witty humor!

Yes we watched the same drama but I think I only noticed what I was presented or maybe went only to a certain…
"only noticed what you were presented"? Where are the 20 episodes of zero communication or 20 episodes of dumbest FL? Seems like you're the one over-analyzing. Or more correctly, seeing more flaws than presented. If you prefer to watch dramas that don't tax your brain, you would not be able to enjoy this drama with its multi-dimensional characters that need brain cells to be understood. Those "business talks" that you don't care about but a lot of viewers do, are fundamental to understanding some characters. You can stick to one-dimensional characters and stories that don't need any form of analysis, but preferring dramas that don't require any analysis doesn't give anyone license to slander dramas that do. Especially with lies.

Dylan's acting is on point when Shi Yan played the lame uncle saying a cheesy line like he couldn't seize the opportunity just so he could find out whether Shuyi has someone else in her heart.

The seduction scene in ep 34 is hilarious and titillating, especially Shi Yan's gargantuan effort at controlling himself at the same time appearing unperturbed and Shuyi's surprise at his seeming coldness then her whimper of hopelessness 🀣

Thanks! :) I usually hate misunderstandings but the multi-layered misunderstandings here were so well executed that I instead got fascinated, especially with Shi Yue. Her obliviousness of the misery she was causing her beloved uncle and chosen aunt came out funny, instead of annoying. Had Only For Love not been attacked by haters, episode 26 would have been hailed as a masterpiece. So many pivotal scenes happened here, all done well.

In ep 25, Yu You's parents hid two chess pieces referred to as "ministers" as a gentle reminder about marriage.…
I did not fully understand that part either. I just figured two ministers might mean man and woman, but I, too, would like to know the official answer.

I thought the multi-layered misunderstanding was handled very well. Instead of being exasperating, it was funny, except where Shi Yan, the ultimate victim, was concerned. With her ignorant earnestness, QSY was amusing to watch as she unwittingly tightened the noose with each word she said. Shi Yan showed his skill in handling people when he pretended to be at a loss so he can pry information out of QSY, regarding whether Shu Yi already has someone in her heart. You could see how the fight went out of him, when his hands went limp at Shi Yue's well-meaning but devastating answer. Very well done indeed. Episode 26 is one of the most gripping episodes in cdrama history.

I'm currently re-watching this and remembered another layer that added to the fire of that misunderstanding, namely, Shi Yue's bumbling attempt to match her uncle up with Shu Yi. After their hot spring bath, when Shi Yue asked the low-spirited Shu Yin about "the uncle" and Shu Yi said to forget about it, it's complicated, Shi Yue texted Shi Yan that Shu Yi got hurt in her relationship so it's an opportunity to make a move. Shi Yan rushed to the hotel and immediately asked Shu Yi how she got hurt in her relationship. So funny how Shi Yue thought her uncle was making an excessively aggressive and insensitive move on a woman she was just setting him up with. Her confusion was exacerbated when Shi Yan took Shu Yi's hand, making her wonder, "Did i miss something? Why are they suddenly holding hands?" Shi Yue is so endearingly clueless.

Shi Yan's veiled attempt to wrestle more information from his niece later ended up piercing his heart even more with her misconception of what was going on. When she tried to reassure him not to worry about the guy Shu Yin was pursuing because "that wasn't sincere... she did that for other reasons and she has already given up now", little did she know how much she was breaking his heart.

Normally, I find misunderstandings tedious and annoying, but for some reason I found this tangled web of misunderstandings funny though at the same time heartbreaking.
