Yeah I feel bad for SY but I also think that Mudan is partly responsible for giving her too much by making her…
I feel like Mudan was quite naive in thinking that the things that give her a sense of stability (being self-sufficient and earning money) would also make Shengyi the same sense of stability. This is evident in the things she tell Shengyi before seeing her off to go back to her hometown and when Shengyi opened up about wanting a family. Unfortunately, Mudan is young and even with what she experienced, it does not mean she knew how to pull Shengyi out of her trauma cycle.
Shengyi on the other hand is insecure and was easily played by her ex. Her actions that end up harming Mudan and A'Fu is truly disappointing. Shengyi owes Mudan and A'Fu big time.
Shengyi really needs to learn her lesson and resolve to break the cycle herself. Nobody can do it for her. This is on her. Best thing they can do for her is to send her to another county far from her traumatic past and let her live the life she wants. If she ends up being abused anew... she's a lost cause.
Has anyone read the novel? I found it and I’ve been thumbing through it, and I cannot find any chapter that…
the drama is only following and incorporating certain elements in the novel, but you can read the novel and watch the drama at the same time and not get confused with mixing up the two.
This is exactly what I’ve been saying. She has been doing the same thing once twice thrice…. she hasn’t…
When people understand where Shengyi is coming from, it does not mean defending her. Understanding but being disappointed is possible. Understanding her also doesn't mean condoning her actions. But to hate her is too much. She is after all a product of all her traumatic experiences. It takes a very strong resolve to break a traumatic cycle. For that she is lacking. I wouldn't take it against Mudan and A'Fu to sever ties with Shengyi. But as a third person, I would not be quick to discard someone like her.
I know this drama is struggling internationally because international fans are more into dramatic xianxias. it…
I can't say it's "struggling" internationally. It's a top drama on Viki. But MGTV subs are pretty bad and it's not available on other legit apps. How can you conclude that it's struggling?
one thing i appreciate is how they show hints of something and resolve it in a few episodes. like the master wu ambush and shengyi's betrayal and the emperor (not gonna spoil it). i dislike things that audience already figures out but the drama draws it out for weeks
you are wise person. watching last episode yesterday without waiting todays just killing me. all day all i think…
i've seen the ep21 teaser so after the kite date, i stopped last night and decided to wait it out since i also saw the ep22 teaser showing jcy rushing to her so i knew i only needed to wait a day.
Although douban isn't the most reliable but no matter how popular an actor is or their fanbase is, a good drama…
One thing with Douban, everyone knows 7.5 up is a very good rating. There's an acceptable balance between real rating and downvoters. The have enough amount of raters to find a certain average. Meanwhile on MDL, people still think the ratings mean anything that they look at the rating and anything below 8.5 must be a bad show lol coz some bad shows still end up with 8.5+. I don't see any balance on ratings on this site.
Because I know ep21 is a bit hard to watch, I decided to wait for tonight's episode so I will have JCY returning for MD as salve. hahaha I don't hate Shengyi but she definitely did something stupid by allowing herself to be tricked. The real villains are still Wang Qing, the Liu family, and the princess.
shengyi is too possessive of mudan. i think she wants her for herself. 😂 I mean I don't blame her.
it's because she considers mudan as someone who appreciates her. with how her life was, she needs that constant validation. and seeing mudan appreciating others, she thinks she might be cast aside. it's like being the eldest daughter and new daughters come in being all cute and attention grabbing.
I agree Shengyi is realistically written and portrayed. She is more fitting for her time and a product of her…
She needs to get suitors hahaha coz right now she's thinking "who else will want to marry me?" and she wants a family. Also, it's hard for her not to still feel inferior being low born and now even if she's a co-owner of the shop she is still not as skilled as the females around her.
How’s the romance? Is the ML strong or powerful? Does he save the female lead often?
ML is strong and powerful... but FL is also good that she doesn't need the ML to save her often. Flourished Peony highlights an FL who is self-reliant. ML is the right kind of partner for such an FL.
I see this question all the time in different dramas. As for Flourished Peony, just watch it and you'll see for yourself. It's a slow burn romance and you can see the changes in how he looks at her and opens up to her.
Mudan not recognizing LC in a mask while easily even from afar knew JCY with a mask and cloak. What a great way to show MD's acute awareness of JCY. This after showing JCY knew little details about MD even without her telling him about them.

This is great storytelling!
