but she's not that kind of doctor even in the novel. her "coldness" is more of her being aloof and working like clockwork precision. a burn patient that only needs prescription for ointment gets only that. a patient that needs surgery, gets exactly what's needed. nothing more, nothing less. that's how she's cold.
it's not necessarily a hindrance, but people who are like that are considered cold. even at a regular office will consider that kind of co-worker as cold.
however professor xu (the older doctor) wants doctors to not be like that. he wants doctors who can also be seen a humane. for people like him, it's a hindrance.

if you can take half of the drama where two messed up people wanting love but not ready yet and the push and pull that comes from it, then go watch. eventually, it will have a happy ending. it's more of a character driven story.
i don't mind it, so i'm enjoying the drama (and by drama, there's a lot of it going on here)

maybe we're not watching the same drama or read the same novel

if he really cares for her, he'd let her be happy and break away from his toxic family. he knows she doesn't love him as anything else other than a brother. but he can't let himself be the only one suffering. at least if she's still under the family's control, they are together in their suffering. that's why he's no good.

The fire drill happened just like in the novel, but I did not imagine XQ to look that cute squatting there with the gauze on her face and more when SY found her hahaha

what do you mean the drama hasn't shown that she can't stand up to her brother?
when others are involved, she can't put down and let her brother be embarrassed. that's because he's still family. a harm in her brother's reputation reflects upon their entire family. she can only get mad at him privately and only when provoked. in the end, she still considers him as her brother and someone who takes care of her.
i've had enough trying to make you understand that you're expecting her to act out of character. you expect her to behave like a different person. yes, it would have been better if she stood up to her brother. but she can't. sadly that's how people are. they disappoint.

hahaha i'm just being very vocal about ML flaws here to balance the scale since too many are ranting too much on FL flaws. But I'm not taking any sides. Just wanting to see how the story unfolds.
Besides, ML and FL gives each other eye hearts so much despite their misunderstandings, I have no doubts that they really like each other. I will just root for Jiang Yu to continue playing cupid hahaha

i guess you're lucky to not have experienced/witnessed trauma responses like what the fl experienced at that moment that you cannot find empathy for her.

For those lucky enough to have very good supportive families and can't understand... many things are going through XQ's mind in that moment that causes her to freeze. (1) They are in public and should not cause trouble (2) she knows brother and sy are ready to fight it out if it escalates (3) she'll be in trouble with mom if sy hits brother and it will mess up her plan to make family accept sy (4) other firefighter has zero idea what's going on (5) etc

We've seen XQ put MYC in his place before, but in private. But in the presence of other people, it's not out of character for her to freeze up and get triggered an anxiety attack at that moment.

SY really needs to stop treating her like he needs to put a bubble around her to keep her from breaking. That's my frustration with SY. Be there, be her support, but she's not a porcelain doll. Give her the capacity to make her own decisions with all information in front of her.

I think not QX thinks:
Plan 1: Be bestest daughter who can do no wrong so family can accept who I love
Plan 2: Have enough financial security to cover (now and into the future) the luxurious lifestyle I'm used to in case I do get disowned
Plan 3: Just continue walking on eggshells and not cause trouble until I have had enough and decide to end my pitiful life

You need to see it from her pov.
She doesn't know what happened in his life in the past 10 years. Never saw his letters, never saw his note on the window, never knew her family actively did something bad to hurt him. She has zero knowledge of all of what we audience knows. That's why the writers had XQ ask both brother and mom if she got letters when she was abroad.

In XQ's mind, her family is against their relationship because of social status alone. "We're rich, he's poor; You can't be together." So all this time, she thinks that if she gets to achieve something big on her own then she can earn her family's bestest daughter who can do no wrong award and be allowed to love whoever she wants. Childish? Immature? Yeah. But it's a realistic portrayal of someone with a life like hers.

Unfortunately, SY thinks that not letting her know things is good for her so that she won't get hurt. (Recipe for misunderstanding tsk) Also, he's not devastated or having fear of abandonment just because she broke up with him. A whole lot of other things happened that's why he wants her to be 101% for him and not mind her family.
