I think those who don't know much about how vicious the kpop industry could be will not appreciate drama. We have…
There's realistic and there's torture porn. Kpop industry is brutal no doubt, but realism doesn't make for good drama. The arc with CEO revenge was dumb, the guy was targeting everyone expect the actual culprit, aka the FL who enabled the "casting couch". Also, they tried to make FL sympathetic with her dementia mom and her deadbeat dad, but and making the husband apologize to her as if she personally wasn't responsible all the shit they all went through.

No romance, unless you count FL and her husband (even that is slight). ML is an employee/ward, FL is a horrible…
She is like a "mother-figure" to him. That scene confused a lot of people (some expecting a romance, others hating the age-difference), but no. There's not even a shippable vibe between them. She is just his manager/boss, he is just her employee. Her husband and son treat ML like family, but she is only interested in the money she will make on him.

Not really. Chinese bromances get relationships and CP (couple/ship) across just fine. And since they can't be explicit, they have to rely on micro-expressions and coded sweet-talk which warms my romantic heart. In fact, I prefer chinese bls over thai or korean bls BECAUSE they don't have explicit scenes, so I can even watch them with family. I love watching plot loaded dramas where the main couple happens to be 2 guys, rather than just 2 hot guys sleeping with each other because honry and going through pointless misunderstandings over and over.

I'd rather watch Untamed or WOH for the 50th time than any recent k/thai-bl, tbh.

ESPECIALLY GMMTV bls... Compulsary on/off-camera CP is too much like watching real couples do cosplay-skits and that's just not my thing. I am bored of watching same couples over and over, and ones that I do like, have either broken up or don't have any good dramas in the lineup this year.

They been cracking down since 2017, post-Addicted. That's why Chinese bromances don't have kisses or NC scenes anymore. I am not saying there is no censorship in China. I'm saying for Spirealm and JTTD....it's not. Spirealm plays on Viki International because the rights were brought by Viki.

bromance but they can't deny mutual feelings
Through out history of civilizations until the modern era, love, sex and marriage have always been 3 different things. Love can love it can be romantic, familial or queer platonic. Sex is sex where two people bump uglies for pleasure or to procreate to keep the family tree growing, nothing more, nothing less. Meanwhile, marriage has been about alliances - joining families for social or political connections. Marriages have nothing to do with love or sex.

The drama is based on a bl novel.
It's not a straight drama unless they both have female love interests...which they don't. It's a gen-drama at best, if u don't wanna call it bromance or bl.

For this specific drama, I don't think that's the reason. The reason for delay wasn't censorship but copyright issues between the author and the production house. Broadcast rights were brought over by a japanese management and they likely stuck a deal over the names. That's why it doesn't air in China (not because of censorship).

Spirealm had the same issues. It was released as 72ep micro web series, then taken off air, made some changes and released on Viki.

I had read Silent Reading and Goddess Bless You From Death. Bcz i can't wait for those to be released as drama/series.…
S.C.I drama. If u like Crime thriller bls, that's the one for you

Also try Poyun (Breaking Through The Clouds) and Tunhai (Swallowing The Seas) novels. They are by the same author and connected in 'verse. The MLs of both are cousins, and bottoms are absolutely BADASS. You can find them on NU. They also have webtoon adaptations. They are supposed to have drama adaptations as well, which I guess we will hopefully get sometime before the Sun runs out of fuel.

The drama is based on a bl novel.

I saw this one yesterday... absolutely tight and steller. Chemistry between ML and FL's brother was out of this world... Also, almost everyone including the minor characters and the villain have been leads in other dramas, though I can't place their names.

addicted isn't really that good a drama, so I dont understand why everyone is so hung on it apart from the chemistry between Johnny and Timmy (which will never happen again). Stay with me is just it's softer remake.

MODC had a specific theme. Shi Gu had a death flag over him since ep one. I was betting on cancer, considering they talk so many times about him falling sick or getting stomach ulcer from overworking and only eating stale bread, which will drive Haoting to be more mature and responsible to take care of him, somewhat along the lines of A Walk to Remember. That's why the title is Make Our Days Count. also, MODC is Taiwanese, not Chinese. Taiwan has given us lot of GOOD dramas, like the rest of the History series.

Same with On1y one. It is taiwanese, not chinese. They didn't make enough profit to warrant a 2nd season, that's why it's scrapped, china had nothing to with it.

"allowing" might be a tall word, it's more that they like the bl-fans' money. But it's still just micro/mini-shirt length web dramas that are released on international platforms.

With this type of drama where ML start out not appreciating the FL, breaking her heart and then later fall in…
I just can't get behind these kind of dramas. I had stopped watching straight dramas for almost a decade, until I discovered chinese micro dramas, where characters like ML who hurt the FL are ex-boyfriends and they find new guys who are totally green and appreciative right from the start. 2ML might regret but he can do it by himself. Honestly, it restored by fate in straight romcoms a bit.

There doesn’t seem to be a romance element, right? 🤷🏽‍♀️
There's a female lead and K-dramas have a habit of shoving romance where there isn't one needed so you never know.
