There's a scene where the trusted lady in waiting brings the deposed crown princess to a cave filled with luminous flowers and a beard man tells her, to come up with something so it engraves in her mind and she would believe that not matter of it's true or not, just to keep her safe.

It's like her memory is being reset and for the time being she needs something to fill up those gaps. The opening scene where a kid is walikg literraly over a thin iced lake and enters a cave where an old beard man awaits him, and where both leads fell into the lake and it suddenly lights up with golden threads that come out of both of their wrists, but which somehow intertwine, and with that cause them to exchange bodies.

Those explains the half the plot.
