Yeah, sadly MDL particularly isn’t a place where you can judge stuff for it’s quality anymore, although it used to be once. And judging series popularity you also never could from this site bc the audience here is too small, so honestly MDL sadly is useless lately, and after seeing LITA rated 8.3 I just want to exit for good really cause this ain’t even funny no more

true, but the majority is still from the US, seeing what's "popular" here and comparing it to Europe I'm from, it's very different, but what's popular here is what I usually Isee on my US friends social media accounts, rarely on others. For example there's stuff that's popular everywhere and there's stuff that is not seen anywhere, yet US thinks it popular, but then no one ever sees it ever again. and there's stuff US thinks is unpopular, but everyone loves it and they keep making it and US is like "why it happened? it's so unpopular". that's just an observation, bc I once was unhappy about ratings here about smth I loved, but then turned out most loved it so I began checking stuff. and that was a whole new expirience. I even made a pole between my 100K+ from different places, turned out it's true.

and I myself usually on thai/chinese part of twitter where 90% of their audience most times is, bc I can't handle western tastes no more and holy shit they all disagree on everything ppl say here

I love Eclipse, but I don't think it's better than Not Me, so I don't think personally that should be higher, but the fact that it has same rating as VV making me think that MDL is for real going insane lately. I've always said that ratings here mean nothing, but lately it just became a circus here. If a few years ago there was at least somewhat sense, now there is none. The VV trash wasn't good nor on quality level nor on entertainment level (that's not about comparison to Eclipse, that's about that piece of media on its on) and the whole world agrees, yet MDL ppl are like 8.3.

There were times, where if you decided to watch 7,9+ rated show from here you could at least (nevermind whether it's to your taste or not) count on a decent one. But now it' s just... goodbye, US fandom, you gotta watch world ratings instead.

Anywho my point is it means nothing, Eclipse is doing great, so you've got nothing to worry about, no one is being unfair to it. If you go outside and for once see world ratings instead, you'll get just how different the whole pic is compared to MDL. There's nt much need to "back up to 8.6" either, not one creator of asian dramas/llakorns looks here. Their US part of the audience is almost nonexistent compared to the rest.

Just for info, it's actually MDL ratings that don't mean shit. And US fans esp shoud stop treating asian shows as CW shows, I keep seeing people thinking like MDL ratings mean smth, but just saying that % of the audience here compared to Thai and esp China BL fans is ridiculously low. And these 14k VV watchers that stated here or even if I'm gonna be generous and say 100k are nothing to millions of theirs. It's only western fans (US esp) seem to think for some reason that they're the majority of the audience, which then gets hilarious when some get surprised like "but it was so popular, why they don't keep making this/why they don't give them roles", when in fact it wasn't popular in the first place. So just saying that it's MDL ratings in most cases that are pure crap. That being said like it or not VV in fact flopped really hard (you can ofc still sonsider this a quality show if u think so, bc everyone's opinion is valid, but js that most don't). And in this particular case and many more your 8.3 on MDL don't define anything. Here these days 8.3 could also be for most ppl pure crap.

I have to disagree, just bc seeing all kind of BLs since the times when offgun starred in "puppy honey", I can just safely say that there are tons of absolutely basic plot/no plot/badly written and not at all written characters stuff that managed to gain ppl's love bc actors brought that certain smth that was captivating. This on is actually not the worst writing, its pretty close to middle, its just the fact that these two just don't have it in them. that's all. I without any bad intentions call such actors plain baguettes. It's like with forcebook to me. Its not that they're bad, but it's just smth in them that to me says "we're not meant to be the main leads".

And to me like no matter what scenario they'll be given, it just won't fly. It's just my personal feeling. Bc if you had it from the beginning, no matter what trash you're into like yinwar's first version of love mechanics (or even 2nd version too since its also kinda dumb) or stuff like this, you will stand out anyways. And some no matter how fertile your soil is, won't blossom.

And contrary to some ppl's beliefs I think there're shitttons of proof that chemistry can't be killed by bad scenarious. There are many things where I didn't like characters or plot, but still couldn't deny that actors didn't leave me indifferent at least. While these two (to me at least) are pure flatline.

Like who knows maybe the reason for so much our famous cameos is bc they didn't have faith in these two in the first place. Like strip this show from these and it would flop so hard no one would find it.

My point it not all meant to be trees, some might just be bushes only. Charisma is a bitch. I think its not even about them being in pair, its even about them on their own too. In every show they're just... there. Like idk maybe some other partner would've bring out something in them maybe, who knows, but I doubt it, and since they've decided already on the fandom name and all (don't know why really), I'm guessing they'll be the no fish no meat kinda thing.

Oh well, as they say, to each their own lol To me it’s more about if it brings emotions in you or not, not particularly about it being too deep or not. There are both deep and non deep things I love and don’t love depending on care and love being put into making them.

Not sure if you’ll get quite what I mean, I know it might sound a bit ridiculous, but with BL now becoming the main money grabber, there are many shows who might have good amount of money invested but are made with nothing but a thought of gaining them and zero attachment to the project. Meaning you can clearly sense that they’re just not into it at all. To me VV is one of the best examples of this this year. It really feels that they’ve put more thought into a promotion than care into the story itself. And it’s just not what most ppl want I think when they watch things. Hence this indifference. Bc when creators are indifferent, fans will be too.

As for why Sky in the Heart isn’t popular, it’s again bc of chemistry. Same as here most find it flat. And when it comes to romantically driven plots, it’s the one of the most important points, bc no one would wanna watch a romantic series where leads don’t have anything in between besides basic acting skills.

That being said you can make tons of people invested whether you’ve made a creation with a deeper meaning like Not Me and a basic lighter thing like Star in my Mind as long as you’ve made it with love and ppl see that ppl truly enjoyed making it. I honestly really think it passes to the creation, at least to me it feels that way. There are many things I watch and think like everything seems fine and logical but at the same time you just.. not feeling it.

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but from all the reactions to VV in different places and comments here, even ppl here who say they enjoy this particular show, don’t sound passionate about it at all. And this is kinda the main indication that you failed in creating. That’s just a mere observation after being in media for so long.

No lol I doubt they would trend at all, it's just there was an event that booked JoongDunk and JimmySea called BookExpoThailand2022, but trended Joongdunk only and when you go to hashtag you only see one couple there instead of two, we just thought it's kinda harsh but understandable

But sadly these two just don’t have the chemistry or enough charisma and presence on their own to pull this off. A bit funny how things go sometimes really… put so many seeds in one garden bed, but at the end the most harvest they’re gonna get from the other one in which they put just one seed in lolz

I tbh still at first thought that maybe using whole gmm family as props and pushing popular pairing in will help (with how people are these days), but even that didn’t 😶. Understandable that the ability to evoke passion in people not given to everyone for sure and they couldn’t stir me either, but still felt kinda sad for them today.

My point was that as much I'm not at all a fan of a pg content, same goes for pwp. And I do not really get why it can't a middle ground of "porn with plot and feelings", which most of us I think prefer the most.

It's just to me personally its a fact that if you have intense enough chemistry and have a great plot, you can easily get me invested even without sexual part (some chinese BL is a proof to that, like maybe I'll be sad about that being cut, but with such unforgettable story and characters I'll be so invested that I can deal with reading porn later, bc I'd want to), but opposite to that when it comes to sex without ANY plot or decent character writing, for me it's 100% impossible to invest in that at all (bc if there's no characters or plot really, why would I care about them having sex? although 50 shades is a walking proof that obv many can).

Let's just really hope that someday a time will come where more creators will be able to invest in "porn with plot and feelings" instead of thinking that if sex is there its okay to just.. not write at all.

I mean, I'm actually all for plain plots and cliches and fanfiction stuff unlike some, but recently there are so many steamy lakorns (popular ones too) where I don't get why can't they at least write the average script? I mean, to me in combination with decent chemistry and actors who are comfortable with their bodies and etc it'd be already enough. But its like they think "steam done, we're all set" and I can't stop laughing at that.

I get that I'm a hoe for emotions when it comes to fiction and that I always need a ship to make my heart and stomach flatter af, but I'm okay with at least somewhat emotional investment too and recently I'm like "holy pastrami where is it?". Good that you're pretty, good that you're comfortable with doing BL (that's no sarcasm btw), but seriously somebody balance it out please, pretty please. I'm sure someone here ever experienced such phenomena, where you at times go to some bar to pick someone up and then you're heavily making out with some stranger and their kissing and technics seem great and all, but at the same time you're like dry as a bone? 😂😭 That's kinda this kind of disappointment. As a person who lives in a country with free access to pornsites and any kind of sex, I just don't understand the point of recent race "who's gonna outdo who in these scenes", I'll most likely forget those in 2 minutes if you won't attach anything else to those. I feel like this year we've gotten BL versions of 50 shades, After and 365 days and thats just not what I was expecting when I've said "I want more non pg stuff" lol.

And I just do not get whats the problem. Like there's tons of examples of steamy stuff with basic plot, that still gives you emotional satisfaction in terms of relationships development. Like BJ Alex or some shit. Idc for problematic personally, I just want at least minimum emotional investment. I mean, esp when the main point of the creation is relationship/love story, you can at least try to deliver on that in my opinion. Basic fanfiction stuff is fine. Just make me care.

I'm just sincerely hoping that this year is gonna be like the "in-between, trying to attract those who haven't seen sex" ppl phase and next year they're gonna find a perfect middle ground of satisfying emotional plot with porn.

Bc when it comes to 2022 the only things that stayed with me are Triage and Star In My Mind (yes fucking g-rated fucck imagine). And the only thing I'm still excited to watch from the ongoing shit is Eclipse. I also sincerely hope Moonlight Chicken won't fail me.
