The way this series is showing the bitter truth is too much for me to be honest. They are seriously showing how…
Because for them paying the study for a son is a investiment, for a daughter is waste of money because when a woman marries she leaves her familiy and becomes part of the husband's family. A son will continue the lineage and family's name. By the way, they include a scene were the doctor says to Xing Fu when she was pregnant that because a equality policy they could not disclosure the baby's sex, the reason is many families choose for abortion if the baby is a girl. Women are worthless. Welcome to patriarchy.
To me the recent episodes show how women are smashed by patriarchy. Xing Fu didn't have formal education, grown up believing that marriage was her only destiny, in her mindset Qinglai would be a good husbdand because he was "honest and hardworking and don't smoke and gamble either"... because of these very low standarts she thought he was more than good for her status. She married and fullied her duty giving her husband a son. When she was in the city she finally realized that she could do much more, but she was already tied with a man that doesn't have interest in achieve more and don't want his wife to be more than him either. She was raised to be a housewife, she will never divorce him because of her goals (she have a child to think too) so she go after him to the country. Xing Fu is a woman with extraordinary willpower and diligence and kept going on with her ambition opening a inn even without her family support. In real life probably the woman would just return to the country life and be unhappy, is very hard someone be so strong as Xing Fu. And Xing Fu and Qinlai didn't even married out of love, their marriage was a arrangement because both thought it was convenient, they certainly are bonded by partnership and affection, but is not love, it is the duty to have a family and produce descendants. Sorry for the rant, I don't even know if made sense but I just had to put in words, this drama makes me think about a lot of things.
Qinglai saying to Xing Fu that he is her husband not her child... but why he keeps acting like a child? If Xing Fu stays with him she will never achieve anything.
isn't he supposed to be a baby business man ? The amount of time in the drama they mentioned that he is a "very…
But in the very begining it's said he doesn't see her for over 20 years, how come he is 24? It was translation error? Anyway, there are very young actors that have much more presence than him. But again I have nothing against him, I find he very cute but just don't think he is conving in this role.
Darren Chen is very cute, but in this role is not very convincing as a business man. Like in the scenes where he confronts his rivals with that unhesitating pose and gaze is not convincing, he doesn't have enough presence because he looks like a boy XD
I hated them at first too. But they started to reveal a lot of their internal dilemmas and struggles to survive…
Me too, I hated them at first but than the drama showed us their other sides, like in real life things are not just black and white and people aren't one dimensional. I think the only character that is a real scum is Chuan Jia
This drama is so amazing and frustrating because is very realistic. The acting is superb, it is strange how I can relate even being from the other side of the world. I'm brazilian and our culture couldn't be more different from the chinese but so much in this drama is similar here. The way the hardworking, simple (honest is the word used on subs, I think this is the appropriate maybe?) people act is exactly the same way as here, the actors making Xing Fu's in laws are so on point, seeing the moher in law in her simple ways, how they receive the visits, is like seeing my aunts, my elder neighbors. The way the Xung Fu's father in law is, coward outside but very confortable in voice his frustrations at home, his wife saying this to him how he is only good at yelling at her... omg is like I'm seeing my parents there.
Anyway, there are very young actors that have much more presence than him. But again I have nothing against him, I find he very cute but just don't think he is conving in this role.
