I was thinking this too because YS said that YWS is not "love brained" so I was torn between her protecting him because she has some feelings and her protecting him for the reasons you listed above. I feel like the above reasons make more sense tbh. I do agree that he does seem to be growing on her though.

I don't think Ziyi was actually planning on killing GZY though. I feel like she was testing YWS. And YWS clearly failed. She wanted to see what the bond between YWS and GZY was/what level it was at, and through that entire scene she found out. That's most likely why she was smiling too. Because she found another weakness. I also arrived at this conclusion because she mentioned how the "younger generation" is different as she was surprised that YWS would come to collect the antidote for SGQ too.

Honestly, this interaction made me understand why SGQ said that wangs and liangs are more ruthless when YWS was asking her in the earlier episodes why she was so cruel.

No, it's complicated. Sorry I probably should have put the original comment under a spoiler tag. SGQ is technically a higher rank than the female lead in their sect and she sometimes lets that get to her head. But she isn't "evil" to the female lead. They work together a lot.

Ngl...I kind of wish we got to watch this drama from Wufeng's point of view....Especially because it seems as though they are better at working together than the Gong sect. I mean take YWS and SGQ for example. They aren't exactly friends and they have antagonized each other a bit but they both seem to understand what the goal is and how they need to somewhat work together because it's literally just the two of them in there. All three Gong boys do not seem to understand the importance of putting differences aside and working together for a common goal. It makes it hard to root for their sect tbh.
