Qing Kui grew up very pampered and sheltered so there probably was not much opportunity for her powers to manifest or for her to feel the need to practice/defend herself. Whereas Ye Tan did not grow up that way.

I hope they remain faithful to the original story but I want more romance lolz.

There is no good solution because ultimately she's going to have to chose between him and her sister. He's going to have to chose been his desire to rise up in rank/revenge and her. And QK is obviously not going to pick him over her sister. Just like if Ye Tan was in this position she'd never chose QY over her sister.
