I think it's a bit more complicated than that. I don't think he thinks that she killed the real JL. I think he suspects something is up with her identity but decided to accept her after getting to know her and also yes in part because of reputation. The alternative would be having to accept that he sent his daughter away for 10 years only for her to die before the reconciled which would mean he failed as a father. For a man like him, I doubt he could accept that.
Also, the princess is crazy af. That b***** has a lot of audacity. Yes, you were a hostage but that doesn't give you the right to be nuts. I will say though, I do appreciate them making her character slightly smarter than she was in the novel because I thought she was dumb af.
