Unfortunately ruined from middle to end.
The drama started great and I was really curious to see how they would make the story progress in a 16 episodes format. I had my hopes up because usually, chinese dramas tend to become too repetitive and boring due to the huge amount of episodes they carry on. However, close to the end, things started to make no sense and, the flaws that were already there, became too much to bear. Another thing that also bothered me was how the original premise was completely forgotten. The show was about ML's learning how to cook, and how the dining table could turn into a moment of warmth and love to share with your loved ones. This was completely abandoned after some episodes, and the show turned into the same relationshipy drama that we are all used to it.
First of all, the Female Lead was great. She was caring, mature and level headed, had her priorities in the right place and it was just incredibly likable. The Male Lead was a bit hard to digest at the beginning. He was a terrible boss who had no life outside of work. It really took him some time to accept FL's feelings because he still had some trauma and ex-girlfriend complications, although it was very clear that he had feelings for FL. After they started a relationship, he learned how to be more caring and sweet due to FL's influence.
Another thing worth to mention is the annoying presence of the secondary characters. The secondary couple was composed bt FL's and ML's best friends. I liked them at first, since they were the biggest supporters of our lead couple, and they were trying everything to get them together. However, after some time, their relationship started to become overall toxic and it revolved too much around their best friends' lives.
The third couple was the worst, since they were there only to stop the leads from being together. They joined forces in order to separate them, and both were immature and annoying. There were some moments of harassment from the third female lead that the show tried to make it seem funny and light hearted only because she is a woman.
I do not even want to talk about ML's ex-girlfriend. She was there only to be mean and a bother.
Up to now, I was able to bear every flaw this show had shown. I believe the leads chemistry, mature relationship and cute moments were enough for me to overlook them. But the way they completely ruined FL's character was the final straw for me. Believe me when I say that I was afraid of it, but also waiting for it. She was just too good to be true.
After the incident with her mom, she started to act SO out of character that I could not recognize her anymore. I understand that she was not thinking straight since her mom was in a bad condition, but her actions and thoughts were not making any sense, especially because she started to act like ML's was keeping her from taking care of her mom and that his priorities at that point were only related to work, which was not true at all. He even bought a house, so all of them would be able to live together and take her of her mom. She breaks up with him and I felt that was really unfair. Although he made some mistakes, he had his heart in the right place and I think that, realistically, everything could be solved with a good talk. The forced lack of communication frustrated me a lot, and we could see that was the way the writers found to create illogical drama.
At the end, FL break up with ML and they spend a long time separated. I honestly skipped a lot of the last few episodes and only watched the moments that could give me answers about the whole situation.
In conclusion, the show made a good job at the beginning, but it was completely ruined at the end.
