This is such classic kdrama! Rich CEO, poor girl, childhood friend SML, a big lie, and pretty soon we'll see the disapproving in-laws. It's kind of nice to see all the hit tropes again. No magic or weird past life stuff, not too much corporate jargon, no crazy villains.

Having watched A LOT of American and British political thrillers, this just misses the mark. I was really bored in the last few episodes and only half watched just to finish it.

I don't care how hot William Chan is, if I saw an evil-looking mother like that, I'd run. That actress looks scary no matter what role she is in.

Is Zhao Lusi dubbed by someone else in this or is that her own voice? I can't quite tell.

I know that actor playing his colleague is Uyghur, but he really just looks like a white guy. I keep getting confused thinking I'm seeing a white guy every time he shows up. It's his blue eyes!

Aaah, the ML voice is dubbed by the same voice actor from the last 3 costume dramas I've watched. It's so jarring.

So many logic flaws in the last stretch and only getting the empress' villain origin story near the very end, sigh.

I think this drama has the dumbest assassination plan I've ever seen: destroy an entire city to kill a few people. And why shoot arrows at the innocent civilians. It just doesn't make sense.

Mudan has given enough motivational speeches for 4 dramas. I'm all for strong women and I always hate the Chinese favoritism of sons, but they're really knocking us over the head with the feminism.

Every time I see Meng Zi Yi's red, teary eyes I wonder if she is applying medicated oil to her eyes to make them irritated so she can fake cry. I'm also very fed up with her character and acting at this point. She has the most heartwrenching back story: murdered mother, cold palace, brother held hostage, and poisoned...and yet she still doesn't think she can ask for help. Somehow they've turned a very sympathetic character into an annoying dummy.

The drama has fallen off a cliff both literally and figuratively.

I really hate the trope where the FL does not confide in her husband/partner and tries to do everything alone, which leads to misunderstandings and putting herself in even more danger. It almost makes me want to stop watching.

the drama hasn’t explained it, but in the novel it’s because his uncle became crown prince after his dad died and then became emperor when his grandpa died. his grandpa wanted ML to inherit the throne but he didn’t want it and let his cousin inherit.

Cousins. Both of their dads were sons of the emperor. ML's dad was a crown prince who died.

This is the Song Wei Long drama I've been waiting for. He is simply styled and gorgeous, and his FL is small and cute. Just straightforward fluff.
