ehh interesting review i read from douban about CSS's character growth in the middle part of the show (aka when there were many criticisms thrown into her for being stubborn not understanding LBY etc):
"In the process, those bloody tears eventually became part of shaping her, bringing about qualitative changes. I always thought this part was a rare segment in film and television works. There were too many shows having "growing up overnight" moments, and Cheng Shaoshang, who was struggling to move forward, made me feel that she had flesh and blood."
My 2 cents on the express episodes. Some novel readers felt disappointed with the absence of some emotional parts…
i'm an original reader of the novel, and honestly liked and respected the change. Both are charming in their own way, with the novel is wayyy much more fun and dramatic, but the more i think about it, maybe i even like the drama ver better because of the character growth.
really like this short review on douban (read it with google translate). it sheds some light about positive change from the novel to the drama https://movie.douban.com/review/14589545/
Spoiler: LBY has a very dark side. CSS felt this from the start and feared him. So why did she say to him towards…
it means that eventhough in practice he's very scheming, LBY is very clear with what he loves and hates. when he loves, he loves hard. when he hates, there's no turning back. a newborn child or children in general are simple with what they like/dislike.
Rewatched some episodes to get certain details and the more I watch the more I respected the drama choice of not going down with the route in the novel. In the novel, LBY/HBY is still scheming until the very end, and his way of winning CSS over is rather forceful (he actually bites her arm when he found out her scar is fading, and they fight fiercely like fighting physically scratching and biting each other. It's super dramatic yes and show how lunatic HBY when he has to win something).
In the drama, although he's still fierce he's basically just living like a killing machine (while CSS living like a robot), he regretted deeply, and he's truly care about CSS's decisions. From a scheming guy (remember his punishment scene?), to a sincere one. So when CSS forgives him, it's because she wants to forgive him. like what empress said, she let go things.
I think it's kinda touching seeing them matured like this.
Watched all of it. Overall its good but i feel quite sad that he didnt beg her enough after what he did to her.…
My thoughts about the begging scene: I know it would be fun to watch LBY doing all the means he could do begging6for her forgiveness but watching the drama, I'm proud of how mature Shaoshang and Zisheng in their process of reconciliation. There's no screaming and attacking each other, only respectful talks like two adults would do. It showed how much they've grown as characters.
AQi's whereabouts is kinda hinted in Zisheng scene with the empress when maid zhai told him that AQi has a urgent news about CSS getting into LJT's carriage. It was a bit jarring, but the tiny detail is there.
I think I was more disappointed about LJT's arc where LBY saved CSS again. In the novel she's so badass for outsmarting LJT.
Other than that, I have to say it follows the novel quite closely.
So I cried so much watching 48- end I had a migraine. I had to stop watching for an hour or so because my emotions…
My eyes are all puffy from crying and lack of sleeping. The ending was very heartwarming considering we're suffering for like 6 episodes without a break. Old madam is so consistent in her character lmao I love her antics.
I am satisfied with the ending... It did not feel rushed to me... Then again I read the book and felt that the…
I mean even in the book ending (not counting the additional because I think the extra chapter was very sad with the foreshadowing of CSS's death) we don't get the wedding so it's pretty faithful I guess.
Any recommendations for what to watch next except from The Long Ballad, Who Rules the World, and The Story of…
Goodbye my princess but it was soooo angst but the production was super excellent plus excellent acting. It also features male lead with morally grey character.
Other than that maybe One and Only. The production was so-so and it was also angst. But if you want sweet moment of the otp you can procee6to watch Forever and Ever (which has modern setting) after finishing One and Only.
I'm loving it up until ep 22 and then the misunderstanding between the main leads happened and from that point it all went downhill. Had to ff throughout the remaining episodes. The acting was very good though.
It’s over! đŸ¥¹Binged watched the express package and only paused to work in between. Funny how I felt work…
I could only think of the story of Minglan but it's too darn long. Personally my favorite mainland Chinese drama that focuses on family life and character growth.

oh yeah the hot spring scene and the shaving scene. RIP. we're robbed those two good things lol.
