Hopeful, honest, intimate young love
This show was my comfort watch for 12 weeks, and the cast became my comfort cast. I loved so many aspects of it, from the diverse portrayals of relationships to the honest conversations about sexuality, love, dreams, failures, and the real challenges teens face. But in this review, I want to focus on Kit and Shane because their story resonated with me deeply.
They're both written as subversions of familiar character tropes, Kit, the aloof rich boy, and Shane, the studious class topper, yet they defy expectations with their emotional intelligence. They are vulnerable and intimate. They gradually become their best selves because of each other. They share the kind of love that’s worth fighting for. Kit is one of the most loving, caring, and honest boyfriends I've ever seen portrayed in any BL. Shane didn't grow up with a model of a healthy, loving relationship, but in the end, he has the chance to become that example himself.
