it just occured to me, her fear that it would fall apart when he comes to the same conclusion that Xing Zhou had, that she used him to get back at her ex, was actually because she was falling or had fallen in love with him. otherwise, considering her self-centeredness, she wouldn't have cared if he got mad

you’re right. her guilt was part of the reason of her skittish behavior with him. might fear also be another? she has never been in love before, she definitely was not in love with her ex-boyfriend whom she treated horribly (they treated each other horribly based on shanshan’s “gaslight” remark). she was feeling emotions she has never felt before when she’s with Shi Yan and she’s scared and guilty or probably bewildered.

And i’m reading some comments wondering how Shu Yi could fall in love with Shi Yan that fast. Let’s say Shu Yi didn’t fall in love with him at first sight (which I believe she did, she’s just too contradictory to realize it), witnessing his intelligence, maturity, dependability, thoughtfulness, gentleness and other awesome attributes would make any woman fall in love with him. But again, how can viewers see these scenes that they’ve skipped? How can viewers see a plot when all they do is skip? It’s like a child who doesn’t want to eat complaining about being hungry.

i love how the contrast between the two men’s characters was shown oh so subtly in that two minute shift from Yi Yang’s arrogant cliche-laden answer to Shi Yan’s substantial and diplomatic answer. How could Shu Yi not admire Shi Yan’s maturity and intelligence?

That’s how one knows that the criticisms against this drama are made up. The conflicts in this drama, bad communication and misunderstandings, are normal for dramas. After all, isn’t drama about conflicts and resolution of those conflicts? That’s what OFL delivers. Complaining about conflicts in a drama is like complaining that a candy is sweet. If viewers cannot take the drama in this drama (see how absurd that statement is?), they should just watch animated fairy tales. Oh, hang on, Cinderella and Snow White have evil stepmothers, that won’t do either. How about Sleeping Beauty? No can do with Maleficent around…

i’ve dropped many dramas for many reasons, some of those are because of bad scripts. this has one of the better scripts. at least the comedy is really funny and the characters are unique and intriguing. i really like Shi Yan’s talks during meetings, especially during his and Yi Yang’s interview at the chips conference. Yi Yang was kinda cocky, but Shi Yan was very diplomatic and sensible. Too bad that’s probably lumped under “business talks” that a lot of viewers skipped. Another “business” scene I like is when Shu Yi talked back at the battery manager who was talking down on Shi Yan. Honestly, how can one appreciate a drama when he is skipping parts that showcase characters’ strengths?

Brainwashing is what yxh and water armies do. These are netizens paid to defame celebrities and dramas.

I'm trying to clear up the confusion or misconceptions of those who are watching, especially those who are skipping scenes since they are the ones most likely to miss vital information and I can tell from posts how much they're misunderstanding the drama, e.g. for those who complain there is no plot, I try to point out the plot.

When I have some confusion or misconceptions about something. I appreciate someone pointing them out. And that is what I expect discussion forums like this are for.

I come from a technical background and participate in product user forums where product users air problems about products and are very appreciative of every piece of information anybody else in the forum can provide.

This is what i think drama discussion forums are for, not just to diss dramas or gush about good looking actors and certainly not to brainwash other viewers.

A flaw of at least 50% of cdramas i've watched. In fact, that's one flaw of cdramas I've learned to live with. Yet it has been blown out of proportion with this drama as if OFL is the only cdrama that is afflicted with this flaw

If I were a famous actress who wants to prove my acting mettle, I would want to play the role of Shu Yi. This is a character-driven drama. The plot revolves around the shenanigans and growth of the character, not with, say, some mystery or fantastical quest or historical events. Shu Yi's personality carries the story. That is why this character has more dimensions than just being the sensible and dependable female lead that viewers are used to watching in cdramas. Because Shu Yi can be outrageous sometimes, portraying her poses more challenges than learning to wield a sword or pretending to be a tough ruler or crying a river. To be Shu Yi, you need to be able to act childish, immature, bratty, a liar, a manipulator, a wannabe but awkward femme fatale, without alienating the audience. As another reviewer pointed out, she is similar to the iconic Scarlett O'hara of Gone With The Wind.

As for Dylan Wang, I understand his fans didn't want him to take this project. But he feels he owes MangoTV a debt for believing in him when he was new, giving him the role of Daoming Si in Meteor Garden.

The lack of communication and misunderstandings are parts of the plot. This is a romantic comedy, not a fantasy, mystery or historical drama. The focus is on a flawed FL and her romance with a not-so-flawed ML. As in real life, their relationship faces challenges like lack of communication and misunderstandings that help it grow.

it is awful. fake news has become a scourge in our times and I'm trying to give whatever small contribution I can to fight it. fake news has destroyed not only celebrities but countries

this drama has suffered a smear campaign and as somebody who can't tolerate injustice, I'm trying to do whatever I can to right this wrong that has been done to it. I've watched it thoroughly, only skipping opening and ending credits sometimes, and I can vouch that this drama does not deserve to be abused as it has been.

Are we all so perfect that we can't tolerate an FL who has some growing up to do? A lot of intelligent people are bad at relationsips. One reason is because they care too much about mental stuff, e.g. books, grades, careers, rocket science, etc, they tend to set relationships aside.

The plot is about this high-IQ, low-EQ FL whom the high-IQ high-EQ ML loves despite her flaws. And this is how love should be - loving the other person wholly, flaws and all. Of course, like the ML, we shouldn't condone the flaws but try to help our loved one outgrow them. Disciplining a person, e.g. cutting off communication, doesn't mean we don't love her anymore. In fact, we discipline her because we love her.

I enjoyed this drama because I found the FL funny. Also her friend who gives the worst advice. For me, they are like blind-leading-the-blind thinking they're all that because they're pretty and have good careers, but are actually lost when it comes to relationships. Their growth, supported by men who truly love them, is a big piece of the plot.

It is. Even the Chinese government hasn't been able to control the toxicity in the Chinese Entertainment industry. I actually feel sorry for the actors. I have seen hate videos about Xiao Zhan and Dylan Wang on Youtube. But China has been known to be a big source of fake news armies. Not just about C-ent, but politics too, or every industry that has need for smear campaigns like products being sold online. So, the best way for us consumers is to not be gullible, taking whatever we read online to be true.
