Just finished this one with my daughter, and we both absolutely loved it — every bit as much as we loved Joy…
Since he started in showbiz 7 years ago, Dylan has been a target of envy and bullying. He is being bullied because he neither came from a rich family nor has powerful backers. This level of classism in a communist country is truly shocking since it indicates that communistic ideals have not taken root in the country. His lack of dramatic arts education has also become an ammunition to haters who are blind to his natural acting talent. As he gets more popular, his haters seem to get more rabid as their envy intensifies. It didn't help that the novel on which GOTD was based is very popular in China and there was fierce competition for the role of Xu Qian. When the role went to Dylan, the fandoms of actors who did not get the role were added to Dylan's cabal of haters. It was reported that one hater group spent 200 million rmb to blacken Dylan and GOTD.

Aside from Dylan, other most blackened artists are Bai Lu and Zhao Lusi. Most possible reasons are also envy and classism. Both also did not graduate from drama schools. Lusi came from the same province as Dylan and it seems Chinese people from progressive cities like Beijing and Shanghai tend to look down on provincial folks.

Is there any romance???
There is, and the romantic scenes are super sweet and swoon-worthy 🥰 The leads are great kissers 🤭 One thing to note, this drama has many things going for it, including a commoner hero bullied by rich and powerful corrupt officials, royal politics, warm family relationships, brotherhood, mystery solving, cultivation and fantasy. Romance is not the be-all and end-all of GOTD. It's woven seamlessly into the whole narrative. So you don't only get romance, you also get action, comedy, drama, mystery, crime, etc - a well-rounded package that is very well written. Extremely entertaining.

Haters tried very hard (and still trying) to blacken GOTD. One black marketing group reportedly spent @200 million rmb. But this masterpiece still came out on top!

This and TFF have been getting ridiculously low ratings in China and I loved them both :(((
Who still believes in Douban? GOTD proves that public online scoring is not reliable. It may easily be manipulated by smear campaigns as what happened to GOTD. I’m not sure if TFF also got blackened.

With all these comments, I am really curious now. I would watch this for LMH but now I'm going to just watch it…
It's not bad at all. I enjoyed it.

Do you know the difference? Here on MDL rating is given by "TROLLS" "HATERS" "STALKERS", "PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW…
IMDb is also crawling with trolls and haters. Just the fact that they have the same rating is very suspicious considering that IMDb generally has lower ratings than MDL; there are many western shows with low ratings that have higher quality than shows with higher ratings here in MDL. For example, one of my favorite movies, Avatar, is only rated 7.9 in IMDb. It would probably be rated 9 or higher in MDL.

It seems a lot of MDL accounts have accounts in IMDb. There are similar reviews of cdramas in MDL and IMDb. I think ratings above 5 in IMDb are supposed to be good, thus a rating of 6.6 is a good score in IMDb. Which is why it's suspicious that the score is the same in two sites with different meanings of ratings. It sounds like the same group of users is rating the drama in both sites.

In essence, online scoring, where anybody can give scores, even those who have not watched the show, is not reliable. Haters will downrate shows while zealous fans will uprate their faves' shows. Saying these two factions balance each other out is unscientific.

Person Dylan Wang
All Dylan's fans please report this comment as soon as possible.
I saw that happen a while back, a hater stealing the identity of a fan. I think the fan reported the hater. I'll do that too.

The author of the novel on which this drama is based raved about the lead actor. That is, he is exceedingly happy…
Trying to duck now would not serve you any purpose as everybody can see what you’ve written. A non-malicious and non-spiteful viewer would just drop a drama he doesn’t like QUIETLY. Dissing it just means he has ulterior motives such as promoting another actor by putting another one down. Dismissing the author’s excitement over the choice of ml as diplomacy is downright malicious and spiteful. To top it off, you have the gall to threaten those who are confronting you. If you don’t want to be confronted, don’t do anything that will make others confront you.

Not only character assassination, but threat as well! You’re showing your dark soul with your writing. You’re probably one of those paid netizens who have been trolling Dylan. And I only have disgust for your kind. A good person would stop watching a drama he doesn’t like QUIETLY, showing his consideration for others who are enjoying the show. And MANY people do love this drama including me. Only malicious and spiteful people would want to burst other people’s enjoyment. Paid trolls are the worst. You can’t excuse what you are doing by saying you are just trying to earn a living. There are many livelihoods that don’t require one to tear down other people. I would rather pick cotton or clean toilets than do what you are doing.

So you can character-assassinate Dylan but whine when others point out what you are. If you don’t have the guts to take the heat, don’t start the fire. Don’t do to others what you don’t want others to do unto you.

It baffles me no end how people can say things without any idea of what they're talking about. Have you even seen the GOTD writer with Dylan? His excitement about having Dylan play the hero of GOTD is almost fanboyish. There's no doubt about his sincerity. But it seems sincerity is another thing you have no inkling about, which is why you're not liking GOTD. It's about this sincere, warm, passionate fellow and his sincere and warm relationships with family, friends and co-workers as he solves mysterious cases involving an ancient kingdom he got transmigrated to. I suggest you drop this drama immediately. Malicious and spiteful people would likely not get it.

The Kuyun hot broadcast period is over and GOTD got the following results:
All-end = 58.48 million views per episode = 2.339 billion views total
On-demand = 51.88 million views per episode = 2.075 billion views total
Cloud collection = 46.26 million views per episode = 1.85 billion views total

According to the article below, all of above are "better than expected, and these results are among the best among actors regardless of gender and age. In the three years from 2023 to 2025, there are only 6 Tencent solo dramas with an average of more than 50 million per episode in Kuyun on-demand and 45 million per episode in cloud collections."

Another excerpt from the source Weibo article:
"Although GOTD was disturbed by various severe external negative influences during the broadcast, it still achieved excellent results, allowing everyone to see more possibilities for Hedi, which was not limited and kept breaking through.

During the period from 2022 to 2025, Unchained Love, Only For Love and GOTD have all achieved results that exceed expectations. There are almost no actors who can achieve good results in the inventory before the broadcast after the explosion, and Hedi is an exception. Unchained Love and Only For Love not only have eye-catching investment results, but also have very good broadcast data, and they are frequently on the official financial report, and the platform and producers are very satisfied. A good score may be accidental, but three consecutive good results is strength. After 2022, Hedi has undergone at least three market verifications, and this kind of actor who has achieved excellent results beyond expectations in just a few years is rare in the entire TV drama circle..."

It’s a happy ending. Being able to contribute to science and humankind’s progress is the dream of many people,…
The experiment was to prove that male fertility issues may be overcome in zero-gravity and they were able to do that. Next issue is conception in zero-gravity that they were also able to do. The third step is giving birth in zero-gravity. Also successful, except for complications that may also happen on earth, though operable on earth but not (yet) in zero-gravity. Finally, survival of babies born in zero-gravity is also successful. So many successes. Where's the failure? The drama is about valuing all living things, including embryos. Eve initially put ethics above morulas. But in the end, she learned to value the embryo inside her. So much that she was willing to do anything so it will live. There's nothing depressing about a noble awakening.

This drama is so highly rated here and there are so many positive comments. But I am into episode 10 and about…
The author of the novel on which this drama is based raved about the lead actor. That is, he is exceedingly happy about the choice for ML. But hey, you might know something more about the character than the AUTHOR himself, who knows? (adding that the last sentence is a sarcastic remark; just to make sure it’s not misunderstood)

This drama has more altruistic goals than shallow selfish interests. Contributing to the progress of society is the best kind of life anybody could have.

It's a textbook example of the toxicity of kdrama world. This is a masterpiece wasted on an unworthy audience.
One of the things that I love about this drama is how it made me realize the courage of astronauts. Their grit to walk in outer space knowing that one itty-bitty wrong move would send them on a one-way trip to the cosmos or that a small technical problem during liftoff or landing could mean a fiery or explosive death, made me respect how much science and service to mankind mean to them. They have dedicated their lives to these altruistic ideals. They are ready to die during liftoff, landing and spacewalking. Dying in the service of mankind is a fulfillment of their life goal.

Projecting one’s own defects has become a fad on social media, I see. Those who watched this to enjoy it and not to find flaws would be awed at the immersive experience of being in a space station. It was brilliant to have a non-astronaut on board through which viewers may vicariously experience zero-gravity, the perils of take-off and landing, the day to day operation of a space station, the spacewalk that undescores the heroic spirit of astronauts whose every minute movement could take them on a journey in outer space they could never return from, the ethics, rules and regulations about space travel and experimentation, and many more. The genius is how realistic the experience is. One can almost feel how it is to live in zero gravity without getting dizzy, sleeping in one of those cozy beds, brushing teeth in the bathroom, performing experiments, hanging out with the others or just gazing out into outer space. Add to this such thought-provoking dilemma as ethics vs humanity as well as the understanding of what drives people to undertake such a dangerous career and the experience can only be captured by the word masterpiece.

anyone else found it ridiculous the baby can navigate it’s self through the space station, no supervision whatsoever,…
The baby was born in space, thus would naturally adapt to zero gravity. Floating around the space station would just be like crawling around the house. Viewers who are not out to attack this drama would find it cute

They had their time together, creating happy and noble memories. Plus their daughter. Those usual “happy endings” in other dramas, how many would end in divorce?
