I have watched a few episode so far. As a romance lover should I just skip this drama? Will I be disappointed,…
I'm a romance lover and I enjoyed the drama. It has so much to offer - comedy, action, family love, camaraderie, crime investigation, politics, monsters, cultivation - and romance added color to this multi-faceted drama. This fusion of many elements of the drama was done so well, so smoothly that everything fits just right, including the romance.
Word-of-mouth has prevailed over the smear campaign. Finally! It seems like Chinese viewers who are not fans of Dylan have realized how much bullying he and his dramas always get and have stopped believing black marketing accounts and trolls. It will be noted that GOTD has aired its finale on Jan 18. So, by now, more passersbys (not Dylan's fans) would be watching, as most fans would have likely finished watching the drama.
More and more passersbys (viewers who are neither Dylan fans nor antifans) are speaking out against the smear campaign lobbied at this drama. Here are excerpts of a comment of an influencer who has 8 million followers on tiktok:
"Hey, has Wang Hedi offended someone recently? What's going on with GOTD? I think it's really good and very humorous... The plot has everything - detective work, time travel, suspense, monster fighting, cultivation, royal intrigue - everything! And the quality is amazing...
You can say you're not into this drama, but to trash it as super bad, I just think that's mindless bashing... The key is, there's no logic problem at all. If you can't understand the plot. it's because you're stupid, and then you say the drama doesn't make sense?...
I'd say this is a drama with a very fresh content. If you can't accept how fresh this drama is, don't say it's bad. Just say you don't get it... Then there are some marketing accounts out there comparing GOTD with other dramas, asking which one is better. Obviously, these accounts are hired by other shows to promote themselves by stepping on GOTD...
What real-life people would do is simply watch the first episode and see if it's good. If it's not, then don't watch it anymore. Anyway, I think this show is way better than the usual predictable dramas where you can guess what's going to happen in the next episode...
You can insult me all you like, but I still insist it's good."
Tian Xie Wei has almost no role in the series. I love her acting and would have liked to see her more in the series…
Considering this is a male-centric drama, Tian Xie Wei's role is nonetheless vital, being the one the ML, Xu Qi An, falls in love with. She also saves XQA's life. To those who value quality over quantity, her role adds spice and color to the drama. The couple's scenes are delightful and the kisses are swoon-worthy.
BIG SPOILERS ABOUT THE ROMANCEAs someone who just finished reading the book today Lin An as the female lead is…
Unless producers want to entirely turn women viewers off this series, not to mention international women, they should forget about the harem altogether and keep Princess Lin An as the FL, unless she gets killed or commits some atrocity that would justify Xu Qi An being turned off her. But having multiple women at the same time? Even I would not watch the drama. I remember how viewers were so mad at The Sword and the Brocade because the ML had concubines. That was when I realized that modern Chinese women also hate the concubine system, giving the drama very low douban score (douban was still somewhat reliable back then). I think this is also the reason The Princess WeiYoung had a very low douban score.
I almost don't know what to say after finishing GOTD. This drama accompanied me on holiday travels across the…
The execution scene also rattled me. My sense of justice for what happened to Mr Zheng and the massacred people of Chuzhou, more so after the gaslighting done by the two villains, made me cheer Xu Qi An on. However, reservations about taking the law in one’s hand held me back. Thus, I think the ending is brilliant. Xu Qi An was able to exact revenge but he was duly punished by being forgotten by the world. What he did would have caused his family and supporters to be executed. But the twist spared them. And Xu Qi An was content.
We have to pay for drama preview content now? 🙄 Special treatment for GOTD fans again.
One thing I’ve noticed in cdramas, smart protagonists don’t burn bridges, like the FL in The Rational Life. Dylan seems to take this lesson seriously. And he seems loyal too. Loyalty and ability to not burn bridges would take him places. Hope he, Xinli and Tencent work harmoniously together to make season 2 a reality.
They can count views on pirate sites?! Wow. So which cdrama is Top2 for pirates? :D (and why is it The Untamed,…
Some pirate sites are often mentioned here in mdl, though they might be international? If there are seemingly “established” international pirate sites, there must be “established” Chinese pirate sites too. And if they are anywhere as established as the ones commonly mentioned here at mdl, they would have statistics of their dramas. The chart I saw on twitter showed statistics for one day, it wasn’t an all-time chart. The first drama listed, GOTD, had 14 million+ views. The second one, Under The Skin2, had 2 million+ views.

A good question; after being treated poorly by Tencent, would Dylan still want to work with them? But I’m at awe of his excellent PR skills and business savvy. After being treated unfairyly by IQiyi, he still went to their Scream Night where he received anothef scream god award. Same with Weibo, which has been used extensively by paid marketing accounts and trolls to blacken him. He still attended Weibo Night. So, with Tencent, I think he will choose what’s best for his career.
HI, so, i started watching this drama cuz i love Tian wei, but im currently on episode 11, and so far, her character…
I’m actually impressed with Tian Xi Wei’s acting. The princess acts spoiled due to her upbringing and the kind of family she has. She knows that the best way for the insecure emperor to not feel threatened by her is to act silly. Actually, Princess Lin An is smart, not to mention kind. TXW also has the best onscreen kisses with Dylan 🥰
