this Fifth Prince and CSS thing will be resolved in Ep 37 itself or stretch till 38 or ahead?
Either 37-38, it shouldn't get past that.

I'll just say this. You know Fifth Prince? The guy that kind of bullies CSS? CSS tried Fifth Prince before Yuan Shen was even a consideration. Fifth Prince actually refused since he knew that she belongs to LBY. That should tell you how desperate CSS was and how scummy Yuan Shen is in the eyes of CSS. Yuan Shen was legit the last choice. Even Fifth Prince had more consideration for others than Yuan Shen. The man is selfish.

If they are trying to stay true to the novel, it will probably be the last episode. If they don't follow the novel,…
Actually, that's a good observation. It's not exactly the same, but the main point is yeah, they were fighting a rebellion. LOL. Also, when the kids are talking about the painting of the star crossed lovers, that is basically OTP. I included the gist of the Extra Chapters ending for you if you are curious to read.

Extra Chapters Ending (these chapters were written about two years later after the original publication of the novel):
OTP get married and have several kids/grandkids. After realizing that life is too short they leave everything behind and decide to travel to see the rivers, mountains etc. which was their original plan after marraige. The True End.

Unknown. My guess is novel ending. The novel ending is no marriage just engagement with LBY. They are together fighting rebels. CSS finally understands what the wire around LBY is. The wire represents CSS and is reminder of the happy time they were together and his love for her, which he used to "keep warm" during his cold exile. They then kiss. The end.

I forgot to mention. He tried proposing to her several times throughout the 5 year exile of LBY. She refused him every single time. Dude, that's not how love works... You gotta move on. QiQi in episode 27 has a good point. If you like someone, you will like them. If you don't like someone no matter how long you spend with them or what they do, you won't like them. A lot of truth here.

I have zero pity for someone that is pompous and manipulative like him. Yes it's sad to waste your life over chasing after someone, but that was his choice. He says he wanted to not end up like his master, but proceeds to do everything exactly like him, without trying to change. He knew full well that CSS didn't love him and she still loved LBY. So, no sympathy from me.

It's explained that CSS is his first love and the only person that he will ever love. He knew full well that CSS only ever loved LBY and no one else can fill that spot in her heart. Nonetheless, since Yuan Shen is a POS, he still proposed to her anyways, because he "loves" her. He was fooling himself that CSS is just like him and he likes all of her quirks, but it's not the truth. He knew early on that CSS is just like LBY, but didn't tell her, since he wanted to marry her (CSS was always in denial mode, but she spoke the truth out when she was in a coma. Yuan Shen heard all of it). CSS is just putting on a show after LBY left and this fake version of CSS is what he actually likes - The refined, virtuous lady. When LBY returns from his exile he starts to explain how CSS is truly like and this surprises Yuan Shen, who had no clue. He had no clue that CSS actually proposed to several other suitors, before him. His ego was hurt. LBY also points out that CSS is a person who doesn't always say or do what she really wants. (she is only pretending to be virtuous and refined, but really hates it. She says she hates LBY, but really loves him. She is going to get married to Yuan Shen, but doesn't want to).

The ONLY person who actually accepts and knows the real CSS, is LBY.

My interpretation of Yuan Shen. He coveted her and was too obsessed with not being able to have her. They really are not suited for each other. Yuan Shen needs a subservient wife who he can mold, which CSS is not.

Before I read the epilogue and got my confirmation that they married. I assumed that they got married and are reminiscing about the past, or at the very least are going to get married in the near future.

I agree with most of you points. A main theme is that love does not equate to marraige. Most of the evil women are married to someone out of duty or obligation and not out of love. It's lucky to be able to marry someone you actually love. Even the Emperor had to marry Empress Xuan out of obligation and relegated his true love as a Consort. However, they still loved each other deeply and compromised, as lovers do.

True love means accepting all of that person, regardless of their faults. Nobody is perfect. Finally, if you are truly in love, you are willing to do anything for that person even at the cost of yourself. CSS figures out all of this in the end, while LBY had been doing this since the beginning. It's lucky that CSS was able to discover this truth, or else she may have lost her chance to be with her true love.

The epilogue chapters don't show us a wedding, but they do get married and eventually have several children and grandkids. The only way this would probably work, is if they did a timeskip at the last episode, which sadly, I still don't think is going to happen. I think we are going to get the novel ending. So... No marraige.

SPOIL: I just saw the trailer for episode 42 or 15 of part 2 and it's clear that LBY and CSS had no problem before…
It's two folds.

1st - She wants to fulfill the dying wish of the Empress, which is for CSS to get married. Unknown to her, the Empress actually wants her to marry LBY. The Empress is the only other person that CSS truly cares about, other than LBY. She is willing to do anything for her. Without thinking it through, CSS immediately looks for suitors. Yuan Shen is not the first or even second choice. Everyone she asks refuses to marry her, since they are loyal to LBY and/or know that CSS still loves LBY. Yuan Shen, being Yuan Shen proposes and CSS reluctantly agrees. If CSS took the time to think and considers what she really wanted, she would not have agreed to the engagement with Yuan Shen. In typical CSS fashion, she realizes later after making the mistake of being engaged to Yuan Shen, that LBY is the only one she really wants to be with. And looks to break off the engagement and marry LBY.

2nd - She wants to try to forget about LBY, who betrayed her, but she still has feelings for. She reasons that if she marries Yuan Shen, she can avoid having to see LBY and stop thinking about him. She's just too stubborn to admit that she still cares for LBY and only wants to marry him. After LBY betrayed her, CSS refuses to take a deep look at what she wants. She is afraid of the pain of opening her heart again. So rather than love LBY, she chooses to "hate" him. How much did CSS love LBY? In the novel she reveals that, even if she married and had kids with Yuan Shen, she planned to never meet LBY for the rest of her life. Because, if she saw him, she knew that should would not be able to stop her yearning for him and the old passions would be re-ignited. (translation: she'd still choose to be with LBY and leave everything behind.) CSS also realizes that she is for the first time in her life willing to use her life to protect LBY. His life is more important than her own.

I dislike Yuan Shen and hope they don't try to write a redemption arc for him in the drama. I feel nothing for him.

I'm on page with you. I read most of the novel. Even if I didn't, the scenes still feel a little disjointed. When I saw episode 27 from part 1, the flashback scene didn't occur in that part of the novel. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how well done the scene was though.

The flashback sequence actually happens in the novel, but it should've occured in episode 33, right before CSS confesses to LBY. If we followed these episodes in the order by episodes, it doesn't really make sense why CSS is being so flip floppy to LBY. Why have that dramatic realization in episode 27 and then proceed to forget everything and have the same but a less impactful realization again in episode 33? It just doesn't make sense and the writing is poor. Like, what was with the finger counting? Give CSS a little bit more credit than that. She is mischievous, not dumb. The miscommunication also doesn't happen with the leads. CSS just does everything she wants and LBY from the sidelines just continues to save her, which upsets LBY, since she continues to refuse asking for his help or relying on him, or give him any consideration/affection. In the novel, CSS who is still confused about her feelings for LBY is asked, how LBY treats her. She then flashes back to all the moments starting from the bandit rescue to her most present memory. It then clicks that LBY treats her very well (i.e. loves her). She decides that he deserves to be treated well and she resolves to do so. This is the first moment in the novel, where CSS actually decides to treat LBY well and resolves to marry him and grow old with him.

If they are trying to stay true to the novel, it will probably be the last episode. If they don't follow the novel, it can be anywhere (maybe not even a marraige, but just an engagement celebration in red). I personally, don't think they will get married in the drama. But enough has changed from the novel, that I'm not sure what direction they are trying to go. Maybe a marraige and then a divorce? (still find this super unlikely) So we will see.

Thank you please let me know.

I don't want to influence your opinion, but I am not a fan of Yuan Shen. I don't think he gets a real redemption in the novel. He is a thorn (barely short of a villain to me) for OTP. I'm hoping he doesn't get one in the drama either. I'd be disappointed. <3

Since you read the novel, can I just ask your opinion on Yuan Shen? I want to know how you felt from beginning to end. I want to exchange thoughts on him.

For me when they showed the flash back scene in episode 27, I thought it was well done, but then now after watching episode 33, the writing was a little wtf for me. If they kept to the novel and did the flashback in episode 33 it would've hit different and imo better and made more sense. They really dumbed down CSS.

Like the finger counting thing and then the random realization of how well LBY treated her just didn't hit the mark without the flashbacks.

This scene was particularly important to me since it was the first time IMO that CSS really started to understand love and started treating him the way she should.

The FL is a time traveler from modern times. Ever so often her thoughts will come up to solve problems and how…
Exactly. CSS in the drama is just an abandoned rebellious girl that is carefree and hates learning. But she enjoys tinkering. The author explicitly stated that she is a flawed character with mental health issues. She is also immature and doesn't know things about love just like in the drama.

In the novel CSS doesn't know who she is or what she wants. But, she is exactly like LBY, it's just not clear to her until later on the story.

Yuan Shen is just like his master. No matter how how hard he tried (which IMO, he didn't try that hard) to escape from having the same ending as his master, in regards to love, he ended up with the same fate.

I read a comment that this drama/novel might have elements of time travel. Can anyone elaborate on that? At this…
The FL is a time traveler from modern times. Ever so often her thoughts will come up to solve problems and how she has a lot of ideas and to explain her character. It explains things like, why she doesn't know how to read ("uneducated," hates following etiquette etc.) and why she is rebellious and forward thinking. It's not relevant in the overall story. Like she isn't going to use powers or try to change history. She has a background in math and I believe some engineering.
