This drama lack something to make it from good to great. Maybe because all cast story too depressing. Although jeonghu existence reduce the depression, maybe a character with opposite character of all the depressing stuff would make the drama perfect.

It's good drama, i can say among action drama i watch it's one of my favorite alongside nirvana on fire and joy of life. If nirvana on fire story around revenge, joy of life about his family mystery then guardian of dafeng is about survival in fantasy world.
This is enjoyable drama that whole family can watch. Honestly if you follow translated lightnovel/webnovel this kind of genre is common. Some even Masterpiece that never brought to tv series or anime. Although i havent read the novel "Dafeng's Night Squad " but this is so much better than others like BTTH , Soul land etc, the animation in this series more smooth.
