Both have strong character bonds and martial artists who have frenemy-enemy-friend dynamics depending on how they’re feeling on the day and which third party they’re fighting. There’s also good fight scenes in both. You could say the writing is tighter in Mysterious Lotus Casebook (in that nothing is skippable unlike the sometimes draggy court politics in WBDS, and enemies don’t nicely step back and let you and their targets walk off randomly when they’re meant to be killing them, and let’s not talk about WBDS’s ending) but honestly both are not about the plot, they have the same vibe of plot or no plot the character bonds between the leads is the strongest selling point, and you’d watch them doing basically anything as long as they are doing it together.
These two shows are not the same, but they both give me the same vibe. Both lead actors are amazing, and in both shows I was kept guessing about who the good guys were and who to trust (while knowing I was going to love the MC regardless of if they were good or not.)
