Based on MDL comments, any FL seems to get a lot of hate if she’s not an established actress/can’t act, and if she is famous/can act then there’s tension over billing and screen time/who’s “at fault” for any misunderstandings in the drama. You’re expected to shoot lots of cute “Behind the Scenes” stuff too, with fans reacting badly if your relationship offscreen isn’t particularly close. The drama behind the scenes is likely wayyyy less for all involved without romance.)

Part way through my fourth watch though of this one. LLH is a lying liar and I love him 😂 I love this show and this main trio and crazy Beauty Qiao so much 🥰

I believe the logic is something like the Heavenly Emperor agrees that she’s justified to feel anger, rage, and want to kill a lot of people because of what happened with her clan. He has no right to interfere with Free Will in the demon clan or Heavens, he can only suggest and advise unless asked to act, but he doesn’t want Bailing to kill her, and he also doesn’t want her to choose to nuke the world because then on a heavenly scale the world will be nuked. Hence offering his kid’s newly-obtained human form as a sacrifice to buy her ten lives to the mortal realm.

Because she’s bitter and angry and hates the world and herself for what everyone did, he said he would send her down to experience ten lifetimes of being able to live out that resentment (so killing a lot of people, getting power, holding grudges etc). The goal of this was to wear that anger out, and by lifetime number 10, she has been softened substantially by the 9 previous lives and subconsciously isn’t bitter to the core anymore but is a blank page good feelings can be written into to, not just bad ones, like a black page steadily more bleached white.

Sifeng, as the Emperor’s son, but also as her only surviving clan member (his mum was from the Azura clan too iirc) was basically assigned the dual fate of letting her vent her anger on someone to hurt them, but also having immense empathy for why she was like that and wanting to comfort her in every lifetime. We never meet the Crown Prince much, but we know his bird self was BFFs with her and heard her wondering why she had to kill and who she was and why no one would give her a name and why she felt so bad inside doing what she ought to. Since he hadn’t achieved human form till she was being whipped at that post, it’s probably safe to assume his dad granted him the fate of having terrible lives while loving her so that she’d eventually get emotionally attached and not want to wipe out the universe.

(As stopping the universe from being destroyed while ensuring that was a free will choice from the dude the Heavens backstabbed would have been his ultimate goal.)

That was my reading anyway! Cleverly the show nicely ends in mortal realm mode so we never see the true ending of what happens in the heavenly realm after they both die.

Maybe Joy of Life? It’s not a revenge drama but there are a bunch of masterminds including the male lead, and the performance by everyone is A+. Uncle Wu in it is YZ here.

I got no idea what happened or what the producers were thinking LOL. I did notice they kept randomly blurring him, so I guess that'd make sense if it was a stand-in. (But y would u use a stand-in when there is CY, Mr. Producer? ;-;) From the vibe of that Demon River Festival scene that got cut, plus the vibe of how things were going generally, it feels like there was originally supposed to be some kind of arc originally of 'demons can protect humans, humans can protect demons, good power can be used to do evil, evil power can be used for good, ultimately Good and Evil all depends on your motives not your race/power source' vibe that Fugui was supposed to explore after leaving his sect, like, getting mentoring from some demons rather than just humans, which probably would have tied in better to the whole ending thing of using the power of evil to defeat evil that came outta nowhere. (On top of the 'some evil infected me' which also came outta nowhere. It felt like a plothole that Fugui had anywhere for that evil to take root in him at all tbh, and would have made way more sense if he was like 'good alone cannot defeat this evil, I must embrace both evil and good to stop this fox' hence cultivating evil inner Fugui intentionally, as opposed to Rumu being fridged for it after the 10000th time of saying 'let's leave my dad unsupervised despite what he did last time. I'm sure it'll be fine'.) But that was all cut, so we got 10 eps of plotless filler and cute/yandere OOC scenes from the supporting cast instead for 21-29.5, cuz why wouldn't you, the director, give us that instead of character development and a plot that held together and made sense? Lol.

I will be grateful for Eps 1-12, and be grateful for the Queencard dance promo thing the cast did that one time, cuz that was cute XD

I would say there is not.

Maybe in 2-3 eps outta the 40 per couple, there are a couple of incidents which can be taken romantically, but majority of the time it's non-romance and none of the CP relationships gets any meaningful development beyond trust/mutual reliance.

He is a very likable dude. Helps the enjoyment of his shows too that he generally has phenomenal chemistry with whoever is sharing a scene with him. ❤️

I feel it makes sense tho, since it was always YY that YD was in love with, she naturally withdraws because he’s TZ not YY and with her memories back, she is the OG YD again.

At first she thinks YY never loved her, but slowly, slowly she realises through how his mortal self sees and reacts to various situations that had parallels in the first half that things she assumed and that were the basis of her assuming he didn’t care were actually wrong.

I thought they did that part very well though my heart broke for human TZ and will forever ship him with her, and back him that they are two different people 💔

A beautiful cast of characters who all have strong motivations and backstories, unforgettable music score, and romances that are make or break, as if you got in the right ship you’re happy forever, and if you pick the wrong ship to ship like I personally did, you’re doomed) 😂

iirc there was a rule that series could only be a certain length when this series aired, so they split into s1 and s2 to get around it. In fact part 1 and 2 are really just a 73 episode series, though due to the month gap between airing s2 has more flashbacks I think, though I’m not up to it yet.
