You might be right that Uhm Jiwon has been uncomfortable in Kwangsook's character because she has often played feisty and even villainous characters. However, UJW has decades of experience and is a multiple-award winning actress. Might be the Writer and Director who wanted her to play the character in a certain way.

I think the change in writing could be due to the extension of episodes. So the Writer has to make changes which could be challenging because she has to edit the storylines at short notice.
