Dragging so much
The story between the Marquis and the protagonist is not interesting. It would be better to keep more romantic scenes between Miaomiao and Ziqi in chapters 19 and 20. The wedding dress she wore in episode 20 is good. From Taizang County to the Imperial Capital, Miaomiao's makeup looks terrible, even awful. In some episodes, we wondered why the makeup was so exaggerated. The acting also seems overdone, with unnecessary exaggeration in movements and terrible facial expressions.
At the same time, Meng, Mai, and Fuyu's acting is good.

When you find it difficult to end a drama, know that it's so good and has left an impact on you.
It is an absolute gem that it captured my heart. The characters are so well-written and lovable.Characters that Stood for me:
•wanghe is a responsible and intelligent man who looks after his friends and family well he must have weaknesses and annoying actions sometimes but he was trying his best to be a good friend, son and lover... As the story progresses, his depth and need for love and care become more apparent, making him one of my favorite characters.
•Fenghua is the life of the group, a sunshine who brings humor, charm, and warmth. Every friend group needs a person like her—someone who brings people together and makes life brighter, someone who cares for all of them, someone who shares the good news with them but keeps the pain inside her/his heart to not hurt them..
•Xing chi is really a character who you will feel really sorry for him, you will want to hug him and tell him "it's okay you deserve happiness" he really was a good friend he loved someone peaceful and moved on peacefully he didn't hurt his friends for love and he wasn't selfish.. I liked this character so much.
Storytelling & Nostalgia
One of the most beautiful aspects of Northward is how it captures the warmth of family, friendship, and love(love between lovers, between friends,family...). The interactions between the families felt incredibly real, making me laugh, cry, and cheer alongside them.
Production & Music
The nostalgia of the '90s is perfectly captured, from the fashion and household items to the music that brings back a sense of innocence and warmth. The OST is simply beautiful—some songs are upbeat and fun, while others are melancholic and touching, alos the cinematography is top notch and the camera work and angles were really well produced.
Final Thoughts:
This drama made me feel like I was living alongside the characters, sharing their joys and struggles. The warmth of family, the purity of friendships, and the beauty of nostalgia makes it unforgettable.

I'm in love with the storytelling, CGI, acting, ost, all in all i'm in love with this drama
Plot and Storytelling:
“I, BaiShuo, want to find my own way”
“Relying on myself is better than relying on others”
The storyline is an enthralling mix of lighthearted humor and deep emotional moments. It takes you on a journey of love, growth, and self-discovery, beautifully balancing romance with personal development. The pacing is just right, keeping you invested while allowing key emotional moments to resonate, i'm sure the real romance will come in upcoming episodes we will see more deep emotions i'm eagerly waiting for that.
Characters and Performances:
The cast delivers outstanding performances, with each actor and actress perfectly embodying their roles and i'm waiting for Bai shuo development and the time she will be more stronger to find her own way . The chemistry between the leads is magnetic, making their love story both believable and deeply moving despite the romantic moments between them didn't start yet. The supporting characters also shine, adding layers of depth and humor to the drama especially the master of sect
and his people i loved them from the first episode.
Cinematography and Production:
Visually, really is a feast for the eyes. The breathtaking cinematography captures every emotion and detail it gives me the galaxy or aurora vibes which i love so much, while the stunning costume and set designs enhance the drama’s aesthetic appeal, also the makeup i'm in love with the makeup i even wanna learn it hhh. The soundtrack is another standout i like the intro ost with sa ding ding voice, also the other osts perfectly complementing the mood of each scene with the voice of zhoushen, luhu... and other good singers, waiting for the leads song they sung together.
I recommend youbto watch it? The answer is yes.
It's more than just a xianxia love story—it's a motivation(for me) and the courage to chase one’s dreams as Baishuo chasedher dream and working hard to catch it . Whether you're a fan of xianxia romance or simply appreciate well-crafted storytelling, this drama has something for everyone.

The title doesn't fit the story /confused storytelling/miscasting
The title is "The legend of the female general" but i don't see any general or any legend..From the title and the initial hype, i though i would watch a strong, capable, dominant and bold female general, a strong female lead.. But in the contrary i just see a weak female lead hidden behind a name of a general, also the casting directors failed to choose the female lead because she doesn't have the charisma or the strong aura to play this character, if they casted another suitable actress maybe she could save the character despite the way it's written... but the current fl doesn't add anything, the ml is ok his character is writing in a better way than the fl and the actor is doing well for his character compared to the fl...I didn't read the novel so i don't really care if they follow it or not, but i just want directors and screenwriters to deliver the inside story the way we see it in trailers and the way it's being hyped so people don't get disappointed, and they should cast suitable actresses and actor and not just some random choices..

Disappointed me, although i was excited for this drama.
The problem with this drama is the portrayal of characters and predictable plotlines, the male lead's character unlikable and the female lead's character attachment to him baffling.Male Lead's character lacking in integrity and decisiveness, making him difficult to sympathize with, even considering his difficult family situation.
The drama relies on common tropes and lacks fresh twists, particularly in its portrayal of youth and school life, there is also a lack of balance and depth in the writing, particularly in the portrayal of the female lead character.

Got confused.
I git confused in the middle of the drama, and i didn't like about the ending is Yesha's second identity. It creates unnecessary melodrama and makes their motive too.
however, it was great when we got and explanation of what happened in haiya and true yesha was revealed. in the final episode, I wanted to see we they went back to help people of haiya and when the emperor clarified what happened and people knew about haiya.
In the middle the messy storytelling ruined it, and got me confused, it was actually felt cluttered and disjointed. The conversations were the biggest issue for me as they often abruptly shifted between serious tones, to sudden humours, to sudden emotional outbursts - all this in one scene! This made me feel like I was watching a parody.

Poorly written / dragging so much the romance element.
So, she's still allowing that manipulating and disrespectful guy to hang around, and her ex is still insane and thoughtless. So weak, she sends another woman to tell her husband that she loves him? Yes, I am disappointed in her. not one strong good male character in this drama. The LMC even bagged the empr to sacrifice him, what? he's plea tell us the empr is weak and doesn't trust him to protect him..it is standard for empro to kill off their brothers when they take the throne, but this guy is so weak he allows his brother to plot against himweak he allows his brother to plot against him for years and he even calls him king, weak, weak, weak. this storyline is so poorly written the viewers can't put their hope for a good ending in anyone. people manipulate because they are weak, the strong come in the night and destroy, they don't play with their food. I'm confident that the drama will end with some feel good moments, but my rating is for the journey to the end. honey attract bees, but bees sting (if you only use kindness, you will always get harmed). ifweak, the strong come in the night and destroy, they don't play with their food. One of best xianxia dramas.
This drama is a visually stunning and emotionally intense Chinese fantasy drama, blending elements of romance, power struggles, and dark fantasy. The story is set in a world ruled by demonic forces, where humanity faces extinction, and the female lead plays a key role in trying to turn the tide. The plot is complex, with multiple timelines and deep character arcs, which keeps the audience hooked as the story unfolds. The lead actors, Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu, deliver compelling performances, with excellent chemistry and character development that explores themes of love, sacrifice, and destiny.
The cinematography is a standout, with beautiful sets, intricate costumes, and impressive CGI that brings the fantastical elements to life. The soundtrack also adds to the immersive experience, heightening the emotional weight of key moments.
However, the drama can feel a bit slow-paced at times, particularly in the middle episodes, with some plotlines feeling drawn out. That said, the emotional payoff and high-stakes narrative make it a captivating watch for fans of the fantasy genre.

Refreshing plot for a xianxia genre !!
Well, the first 4/5 episodes were lacking something..I dunno but I didn't enjoy the humor that much cuz I wanted the angst to start quickly, and yes when the show started to focus more on angst automatically it became so interesting and engaging..the best thing here is the plot twists and the fact that it's a multi-genre drama for me , it's a xianxia but also had many different elements ; comedy, suspense, mystery, romance ofc some slight horror moments ... overall this show isn't for everyone (not for weak people) but for strong people emotionally and for people who really will understand the background of this story.the actors and actresses gave a stellar performance especially with their facial expressions, the CGI is good but could have been even better the background songs are good aren't vibing for me but I love the OST so much...
Overall the story is so captivating and fresh ,the script and plot are solid ..they just could've do better with the production but still it's a good drama if you something to let your brain work harder hhh.

A Missed Opportunity, so slow
It was a huge disappointment. The pacing was unbearably slow, with too many filler scenes that did nothing to move the plot forward. The acting, especially from the lead, felt stiff and lacked emotional depth , making it hard to care about the characters just miles character was worththe watch. The dialogue was overly dramatic and unrealistic, which didn't help the already weak story. The romance felt forced, and the chemistry between the leads was non-existent. The sets and costumes, while visually pleasing, couldn't save the show from its major flaws.had the potential to be a gripping historical drama, but it falls short due to weak storytelling, and underdeveloped characters, the execution feels shallow and repetitive.
One of the biggest issues is the lack of depth in character development.

Very good!!
I loved this drama, it's touching and has beautiful meanings, well written and very beautiful. The actors performed their roles very well, maybe this is the best role for the actress, she has good abilities that need strong support to give her valuable scenarios like this, the actor is an idol in reality but his acting is very good, I would love to see him in more works, overall everything was good, the plot is strong, the acting is very good, the soundtrack is good, the scenes and directing are good. Was this review helpful to you?

The flows are noticeable.
Messy storytelling: heavy reliance on flashbacks after flashbacks, dream sequence after dream sequence, weird inserts of "beautiful visuals" in- between scenes that broke the flow of the story. Instead of adding depth, the storytelling actually felt cluttered and disjointed. The conversations were the biggest issue for me as they often abruptly shifted between serious tones, to sudden humours, to sudden emotional outbursts - all this in one scene! This made me feel like I was watching a parody. Non-stop OST: music was constantly playing in the background which pissed me off big time. At times, it seemed like the director didn't trust the actors to land their jokes, so he relied on comedic background music to tell the audience when they were supposed to laugh. Was this review helpful to you?

A Missed Opportunity
had the potential to be a gripping historical drama, but it falls short due to weak storytelling, inconsistent pacing, and underdeveloped characters. While the premise of a pearl diver escaping slavery and navigating the ruthless world of commerce is intriguing, the execution feels shallow and repetitive. One of the biggest issues is the lack of depth in character development. Duanwu, the protagonist, starts strong but quickly becomes a passive figure, constantly reacting to events rather than driving the story forward. Yan Zijing, the supposed complex and ruthless merchant, ends up being a predictable and cliché male lead whose interactions with Duanwu rely too much on forced tension rather than genuine chemistry.
The pacing is another major flaw. Some episodes feel dragged out with unnecessary subplots, while crucial moments of character growth are glossed over. Betrayals and conflicts are introduced but resolved too quickly, reducing their emotional impact. Moreover, the dialogue often leans into excessive melodrama, making it difficult to take key moments seriously.
While the cinematography and costumes are visually appealing, they can’t make up for the lackluster writing .

Some parts lack logical
I just don’t think the characters or the story itself, did that great of a job to maintain that intensity of the plot. The Marquis of Pingjin has more a solid foundation of his character than Zang Hai. He’s a War Hero, a man who battles with his life on the line. He have a long history of being in a court as government official. Yes, he murders Zang Hai’s Family but based on how the series is going and how his character was introduced, its because he thought of the Gui Seal as a threat. A power he can’t subdue that will harm their empire. He’s colluding with Cao and the other third person for that, but his purpose (none that it really explains well so far, but I’m only basing on his character) is to eliminate the threat for the place he’s protecting.
Cao and the third person might have other grim plan though. But I don’t think, that can be said to the Marquis of Pingjin. Zang Hai’s father is more suspicious actually. He got a hold of the Gui Seal, escape from the DongXia and returns back to the Capital without any notice, tried to escape with his family. He’s the empire’s official, a should-be loyal subject to the emperor. Instead of explaining what happen and surrendering an item (not his property, but of the empires, since it’s a war loot), he instead try to run away, remained silent even if his family was massacred. It makes no sense. Unless! There’s be a flashback of his POV. Also, Zang Hai’s mother is also erm, unimaginable? Her husband just arrived, without any explanation, and she sees her daughter get killed in front of her, and what did she say? “Don’t let them get what they want?” What a devoted wife. Sorry. The Wife of Marquis has more natural reaction than her. Instead of going along with everything, she asked the marquis to give cao the thing he wanted, for them, for their son. Because life matters more.
What will you do if you’re dead? You can’t do anything.
