novel is well written, in novel they only interact 1/2 times before this happened but in drama they build up their relationship that's why some viewers felling bad for them
especially rich/powerful people always get loopholes and get a way after doing crime, here he is innocent so it will be easy job for them to prove him innocent
a simple forensic test can prove that he didn't do that especially the wound she made with her own nails, maybe because he didn't say anything that's why they needed that proof
