It is different in the novel tho. XL was GYJW and the details of XL being his last life that decided if he bacame an immortal were told there, but not mentioned in the drama. Also Pang Zhi Yi in the novel is a different character called Uncle Ji. The name Pang Yi Zhi is used for another chatlracter that is a scholar in love with YBC lol. Making sure you wont be confused cuz some roles of the characters were joined for the drama, else too many names to remember for minor roles lol.

Yeah, might help you understand some things more, as it is really well organised and really good with details. Tho some situations and details are different, plot line is more or less kept intact till now, but tbh XL was the same there. Maybe slightly more interested in YBC. YBC was milder on voicing her plots and more of a doer that hid well. Nevertheless, some things are better explained there cuz we get all sides of the story.
