I think I might jump back into this one. I watched several episodes but just wasn't sure if there was enough plot for the episode count ( a common problem with c-dramas). I don't have that many dramas on my plate now so I'll give it another go.
I'm at episode 18 right now and the plot is really starting to annoy me, especially with how Gong Sun Li…
I see what you're saying, but I put most of this on Han because she made up a story and thought he would not return to the palace. I give her some leeway on not having a plan for him returning. That's my take or else, it is just lazy writing. Probably the later is true but what can you do. I'm still unhappy with the whole leaving the palace scenario. I know why they did it but it would have been better if she'd been kidnapped because it makes her seem like an idiot for not knowing everyone left behind would be blamed. The king has been very consistent with his "off with their heads" style of leadership.
Having said all this, I do love the sizzling chemistry between the two leads so I'll be back ;)
i actually really like Jing Ke because to me he balances out the equation---and I like how much she loved him--and…
I'm not even mad about it at this point. I have put it down to lazy writing that we all had to go through to get to the point where she's cut the cord with the father of her child so emotionally she can begin to accept the king. Because I assume that's what the convoluted 6 episodes of drama watching was about last week....well, less for me because I started skipping. I am not mad at the actress but the writers. I'm curious as I thought this drama was based on a book. Is this going the same way as the book or were major changes made?
Nobody yell at me, but I really was not a fan of Dilmurat Dilraba in the other drama I've seen her in. (Peach…
I think she and the Vin Zheng have amazing chemistry, it's just we haven't had the opportunity 18 episodes in to see much of it. The writer had a lot to work with with the emperor's character because he was a real person with a background like something out of a makjang drama. I'm assuming that Li is totally fictional and thus far has not been developed as well. The writers also have her do dumb stuff. As far as acting, I think she is doing fine with what she's been given but it's all subjective.
Sigh guess only way to make it easier to root for Ying Zheng is to make Jing Ke as annoying as possible in recent…
The whole leaving the palace story line is so obviously about Li being treated poorly by her guy so now, as you said, its "easier to root for Ying Zheng". It's lazy writing and also makes the audience frustrated with Li for not realizing the danger she was putting everyone she left behind in. I hate it when writers make smart women do dumb things. I'm sticking around because the leads have sizzling chemistry.
I don't much care who celebrities date and absolutely don't understand "shipping" wars. It interests me in the sense of understanding the Korean culture. I still remember watching Greatest Love early in my k-drama viewing days and not understanding why his fans felt they deserved an opinion on who he dated. Why did they have to hide? etc It was so foreign to my Western eyes, but it is really like that. I wish them both the best and hope both them and his poor co-star can get some peace.
YOU FORGOT: - Please Come Back, Mister - Missing Nine - Signal - City Hunter - Time Between Dog and Wolf - School…
This is so interesting because I loved the ending to Please Come Back, Mister and was fine with Signal and Time Between Dog and Wolf. Totally agree on City Hunter and haven't seen the rest.
The ending in Secret Love Affair was also really disappointing
It sounds odd considering where she was, but it is actually a happy ending. She gets redemption, and I took it he was still going to be in her life in some way or another.
I am a huge Rain fan so was interested in checking out Diamond Lover before I heard how it all ended up. They added additional episodes but Rain couldn't fit the additional filming in the schedule. They rationalized a more down to earth ending, but this was all about $$$ and sent fans into a frothing frenzy.
Cheese In The Trap: It started going sideways for me at episode 12 and for others earlier than that. Obviously we all know that behind the scene issues came into play. I think this was all the more bitter for fans because it was sooooo good in the first half.
I still watch dramas as they air, but many times I'm waiting until they complete the run. Princess Agent is one I'm glad I waited on. I don't mind a tragic ending (I'm guessing it's gonna happen in The King's Woman which I'm watching), but I don't want lazy or something that just doesn't make sense. Also not a fan of the open ended or ambiguous ending. Someone could do a whole article on "what does that ending mean?"
I think when it comes to drama watching, the wise thing to do is not buy into hype. Even when something has big names, I really try to stay middle of the road with my expectations because all too often something ends up not working. If I've kept expectations to a realistic level, I can still enjoy the drama for what it is. I also am skeptical of dramas getting dissed too much...often I actually find - maybe because of low expectations - that I can enjoy it.
I'm personally sick of a lot of the tropes so I'm getting a little choosier in that regard. I'm so over the love triangle.
The princess wei young is a must-watch!! I loved it to death :D
I overall enjoyed Princess Wei Young but it did get very repetitive with the "evil plot against the female lead". They also made her a bit too perfect which I didn't like either but as C-dramas go, it's solid.
Prince of Lan Ling would go in the #2 slot behind Scarlet Heart for me. I HATE love triangles and P of LL actually has one that functions. The "make someone love me" thing just is kind of meh for me. I do need to try Sound of the Desert again. I dropped it early on so maybe I'll give it another go.
This ended up being a fun, easy watch though I admit the mystical/sci fi stuff bored me and I skipped. Totally about the romance for me. I credit the actress for doing a great job switching personalities. At 24 episodes @ 30 minutes, I appreciate the fast pace. Definitely low budget but fun.
I just saw that Dramafever has this in their "Coming Soon" section though it isn't listed to the side where they usually list them. They've opened a page for it as well though I have seen no signs in the DF news that they've necessarily been pushing the drama so take this with a grain of salt. Every once in a while they open a page but the drama never arrives. Given the popularity of other C-Dramas over the last year and with the big 3 Korean networks no longer licensing out most of their dramas, it makes sense they pursue the C-dramas. Hope it happens and there are others I want to see as well.
I've watched several of these and enjoyed them. I specifically have a special place in my heart for Last Cinderella because once the lead gal calms down, we see she is actually a pretty great gal. I just hated they threw in a love triangle. I also remember being surprised at the amount of sexy in the drama which I generally don't find in the j-dramas. The real shock is going from Last Cinderella to The Hours of My Life or whatever the title is and crying my eyes out.
Plz don't compare this with stranger I know it's hard to appreciate a drama after seeing a quality one…
Thanks for this. I have no idea why people are comparing this to Stranger. That is an awesome drama but it is not a procedural. They are still trying to figure out what was going on in episode 1 during episode 15 (I haven't seen 16 yet). It is an awesome drama, but it is NOT a police procedural where they are going to solve a crime every episode or two.
Having said all this, I do love the sizzling chemistry between the two leads so I'll be back ;)
