I thought the first episode was solid. It set up the story (though I might rewatch the first 10 minutes again about what he needs to do) and introduced the characters. I know this actress gets a lot of grief, but she was fine. I didn't read the source material so I don't have to mess with comparing.
The dramas listed that I've seen (all but the mentioned version of Full House) I'm in agreement. I never actually finished PInnochio. The thing is, I still enjoyed some of the dramas for what they were but not necessarily as great romances. I will never get why they made LMH's character such a jerk in City Hunter. I give some leeway to dramas based on manga, because they're crazy anyway and actually found the Japanese version of Playful Kiss to be better but still not crazy about it. I actually liked the first part of Love 020 especially the gaming aspect but it quickly turned into what I've seen in so many romance dramas. I will give the actress some leeway on the bad kissing....those Chinese censor are vicious, and I think having the actress be unresponsive is their way out of getting something cut though several scenes were cut anyway from the version I watched. I'm still mad about the last 10 or so episodes of Love Me If You Dare. Yeah, what you said about the romance was true, but the whole story just fell apart so I'm more upset about that. Interesting article.
I usually determine which drama I want to watch based on a story synopsis and occasionally on a favorite actor. I enjoy the covers, but I agree it is totally hit and miss. Joseon Gunman has beautiful covers, and the Korean audience liked it but most international fans didn't take to it though I actually liked it more than most because I liked the history involved. Then there can be simple covers like with Fantastic and it can be such a pleasant surprise. I wonder if a cover can be a problem like in Saimdang where viewers seemed surprised there was so much modern story when most of the covers had been historical ( and they were beautiful).
I think there needs to be a middle ground. The point sometimes of the arrogant jerk character is that either A. he's not a jerk but just misunderstood or B. he just needs the love of a good woman to change him. I can handle watching both, but thinking you can change another human being is not really healthy. I mean it is possible just not reality most of the time.
The issue I have with the nice guy thing is that they are too nice. One of my issues with DOTS is that they make the lead male too great and awesome. I mean he is pretty much a perfect guy except he has a dangerous job. The writer then doesn't provide a good enough reason for them not to be together except some contrived, "I don't like your job" stuff which sounds like a script idea circa the 1980s. I saw the same perfect guy issue on Strong Woman though the conflict worked a little better because the drama had so much going on. In DOTS there was so much grief given to the female lead in comment sections from fans for being unreasonable...all of it fell on her.
I would like the writer to have characters with flaws and issues regardless of gender. This can be done and some go back a ways...Dalja's Spring, Faith, Healer, Fantastic, Shopping King Louie, Fated To Love You, Kill Me/Heal Me, Sensory Couple, Twenty Again,Two Weeks, I Need Romance III, A Witch's Romance, The Good Wife, So across all genres you can have male characters who aren't the stock jerk character but also aren't perfect and have growth that happens over the course of the drama. I notice that Faith and Healer have the same writer so perhaps some writers are sick of writing the same old stereotypes as well.
They (both production companies and Netflix) might as well try something different. The Chinese market is drying up because of the ban so I think the more avenues for eyeballs, the better. Doesn't mean we'll like the drama. That's always a roll of the dice, but I take this as a sign of the success of the Asian content Netflix already has. So many people - myself included - discovered dramas on Netflix.

I haven't had time to watch so I've only completed through episode 14. Sounds like things might get frustrating. I'm thinking they could have done this drama in 16 or 17 episodes. Hoping to catch up this weekend, but I agree if June Hee doesn't understand the danger he's putting his kids in, he's beyond redemption.

I understand where she's coming from in that he is the father of her children. She might not want anything to do with him, but her children still love him even if he is a pathetic mess of a man. I liked Five Children quite a bit; it was a refreshing family drama.
The writers need to up the romance development. I'm losing interest. If this was a strong office drama (like…
Yep, I'm loving the pacing as well. Not a fan of instalove so nice to see how there is more a foundation for a relationship as they get to know each other over time. I like how their preconceived notions of each other are getting dashed.
Looking for a light but interesting watch! Would you guys recommend this? :)
I am really enjoying this drama and it is the rare drama that gets better as it goes on. Having said that, it took me about 40 minutes in the first episode to get into...really when she's meeting her two soon to be friends is when it takes off. The lead gal is a glass half empty person so I wouldn't say it is light and fluffy but all the characters have growth and become well rounded as it goes on.
This show deserves a higher rating, not just because it is a hoot but because it has one of the most direct, rational, down-to-earth female lead characters I've ever seen in a drama. And she's not perfect which I love as well; she has her flaws and makes mistakes.
The main reviewer is right. You have to use the fast forward ....a lot.... to get through. I started because I…
This drama wasn't very memorable for me, but I don't remember the guy being any worse than what we see in a lot of dramas. Certainly nothing like Sealed With A Kiss which was an abusive relationship. It is subjective, but if that is your main concern, it's probably safe to watch. My main issue with the drama isn't how he treats her but, rather, it is just too long (so I started skipping scenes not involving our leads). He is a somewhat standard arrogant, revenge focused character. If you like Hawick Lau, you can give it a go and fast forward through the boring bits. I wish they'd focused more on what it was like for him being hearing impaired as well.
I didn't watch the US version of The Good Wife, but whoever was in charge of adapting it in the k-drama did an excellent job. It was truly one of the best dramas I saw last year. Acting, pacing and story were all on target. Highly recommend. Drama didn't spend too much time in the courtroom which I generally find boring.
If Criminal Minds adaptation is really going to happen, hire The Good Wife drama writer. I have heard that Nine Times Travel (can't remember the specific title) is filming now for a short summer run in the next year or so in the US. I'm interested with what is done with that, and if the ending is better.
The drama is certainly addictive, but I have to give a lot of credit to the director and the writer who adapted the source material. It is excellent pacing and it is filmed so well. I will definitely check out the PDs next drama if I can find it subbed.
Can anyone tell me if they are having any romance in it?? I prefer rom com Drama..
I would call this a friendship to love romance drama with some comedic aspects. It is not as fluffy or over the top as a lot of T-Dramas which you might or might not like. (If you haven't already watched since you posted in Jan ;)
I finished two of the ones you dropped. Oh My Venus but I did some serious fast forwarding after episode 12. There was enough here for a 12 episode drama....barely. I watched all of Bride of the Century, but the second half fell flat. I have you beat on Pinnochio...I tried 3 times to watch it. Dropped Goblin at 9...it cheated by being filmed beautifully, having a nice set up but then bogged down with over long episodes and nothing happening. For a fan of fantasy dramas, I can spot someone cheating with the bromance etc.to try to replace that there is not much going on otherwise. The fact that there is a "Goblin in Four Minutes" parody on You Tube that actually does a pretty good job summarizing this drama says it all. It's Okay That's Love is one that I actually liked somewhat to a certain point, but I didn't like the side stories, the conceit it used was done already in a US movie and it eventually bored me. I can't remember when I dropped...around mid-way and eventually watched the last 15 minutes. This drama is so much more popular with international fans than it was in Korea. Others I dropped that most really like: The Princess' Man and The Moon That Embraces the Sun. I always find it interesting what people drop and also dramas that don't get a lot of love, but I end up enjoying them. Funny how it works out sometimes.
