I would honestly say, just trust your gut. Everyone's likes are very different. If by episode 2 you still feel bored and don't feel like continuing just drop it, there are way too many good Cdramas out there for you to be spending time on one that you don't even like.

I forced myself to watch 'The first Jasmine' because of its really high rating and because both of my favourite actors were the main leads. I watched 4 episodes and was really bored the whole time, which was sad cause I really wanted to like it, but it just wasn't my cup of tea, and that's ok.

Welcome. If you do decide to start it just know you're in for a ride. I feel like a detective trying to put together all the missing pieces to make it make sense. But in a fun way, not in a I'm going crazy way.

You should definitely try watching it, I haven't finished it yet, but it has become my whole life, I have put all my other dramas on hold until I finish it, which is quite rare with me. The first 7 episodes will be really confusing at first, cause there is a lot of lore that gets thrown at you, I had to read episode reviews and summaries to understand who was who and what did X do to Y and why is A engaged with X even though she's in love with Y (this happens a lot by the way), that sort of thing, which is why I said the editors should have been fired.

This is the first time in a drama where I feel like they really should have fired the costume design director.
Like I couldn’t take the table cloth training outfits with the tied leg pants seriously. I kept wanting to laugh whenever I saw it which honestly distracted from the story, which I feel like a good costume decision shouldn’t do, we should be awed by how good it looks and then move on.

And I wouldn’t even be surprised if the costume designer was also in charge of hair and makeup cause don’t even get me started on some of the hair design choices. I’m not sure if they were trying to compete with Queen charlotte from Bridgerton but I’m pretty there was an episode where Lingbo’s hair was literally styled to look like a swing.

And it felt like the make up artist was trying to turn everyone into ghosts with how pale and pasty some of the make up was looking, it especially infuriated me when they didn’t even bother blending in the neck so you had a pasty white face with a brown unblended neck and somehow I was supposed to listen to this dude talk with all that going on.

Anyways besides firing the costume designer and editors and whoever is in charge of the cgi, I would say the drama is quite good so far, hopefully I don’t jinx it.

I loved it, I haven’t laughed out loud this much for a drama in a while, I think I might have woken my neighbors 🤣😂

Yeah, I get that, but I feel like the old directory guy was more of a hidden villain, like we knew he was making the shots but we never truly saw him doing it in season 1, unlike Jin. And yeah I would definitely agree that Jin is way too high on power, I haven't finished the last episode yet but I have a feeling that will be her inevitable downfall.

is it just me or is the villain in this season kind of dumb, like she pretends like she is playing chess with her decisions when in reality her plans are usually miscalculated and very spar of the moment, and she literally has so much in her favor and yet she always makes stupid decisions. No wonder she feels so intimidated by Q and everyone would rather follow Q than her. I didn’t like her at all.

I watched Story of Kunning Palace before this and although I loved Zhang Linghes' character in that one, they made him look so weak and useless during the fight scenes that I literally cringed a couple of times.
So seeing him so strong and dependable in this drama is such a balm to my heart and his character is so beautifully written, strong yet gentle where it really matters.

Yes, you are right, the main girl is the one that dies, sorry it been a while. The theory is that they meet again in the afterlife in the ending scene of them together, that he probably waited for her until his death, that's why he is seen waiting for her by the cliff.

But another theory which is honestly my wishful thinking was that there was a scene at the end that no one talks about where one of the side characters who the last episode is told in his perspective, he receives a letter that "was written in a clumsy scrawl, as if it was written by a young child", he hears that the main girl has died and assumes that the letter was written by the main guy instead, but I found that weird cause the main guy is a well educated lawyer, why would his letter be clumsy and childlike, whereas the main girl "Su-a" was illiterate and the main guy was the one who taught her to read and write. It made me feel like maybe she didn't die and that they are actually both in hiding somewhere, that's why we don't get the main guy's perspective at the end only the side characters' perspective of everything that happened.

You're welcome, it's also one of my favourite webtoon, I was very excited, to see it getting an adaptation, I just really hope it has more of a happy ending than the webtoon.

It has an open ending, I found it to be a bit sad, but other people consider it a happy ending.

Basically they don't end up together cause the main dude dies, but then we find out that he might not have died after all that he is most likely in hiding. But in the end she gets to live her life happily, a lot of readers felt that maybe there's a chance they might meet in the future.
