I haven't read the book but I think there is nothing wrong with the Guy using his GF's car to drive her around..…
Except for the fact that the jeep is in the novel and it isn’t rented. He was 100Km away doing research in the desert as well, and it’s a company vehicle he used after they finished their project and before they packed up and left. He was in a hurry to get it completed because he was going to be even further away from the current WiFi signal and even less able to keep in contact.
Totally agree with you.. But the way they meet each other parents has also been changed. So, the 1st time that…
Okay. whoa..Slow down. hahaha.
First off, I'm just saying as I read the book that part meant something to me and I'm sad it was left out. That's all.
As to all the issues you brought up, none of them apply to this relationship. 1) He bought the car right after they got together and before they met each others parents as b/f-g/f. 2) He has a 3 bedroom home. JJ & her assistant are happier with his closet than the one she has back at her fancy af penthouse apartment. There's a guestroom that can be a kids room. But, even years after their marriage, she's not having kids because they don't even have that kind of time for themselves. That's later on in the discussion. 3) JJ is fine living at Yu Tu's house. That's why she spent so much time redecorating it to her liking, showing it to her mom-in-law, & Yu Tu is fine with it. 4) JJ tells her manager and assistant that she enjoys being at his home. Not interested in going back, so there is no issue with her needing all this expensive stuff and space. 5) We're forgetting here that QJJ is no Xia Qing. She's not interested in lots of money per se, but since she has it, if she wants to buy pretty things, then she does... which is why she shops for her man to dress him well, instead of paying off his mortgage.
I haven't read the book but I think there is nothing wrong with the Guy using his GF's car to drive her around..…
This goes along with his sentiment to JJ "...do you have so little requirement from your boyfriend you don't need him to send you off at the airport.." !! It has nothing to do with pride.
He wants to do for his girlfriend, not a celebrity. He wants to give her the normal life she likes spending with him. She's not arrogant about his employment like his ex- or his friends. Money isn't an issue. He just wants to act like a boyfriend.
As is stated in the book: "...For this time where they were going back to Jing City, they took Yu Tu’s ordinary car that he had newly bought. In fact, before dating Qiao Jing Jing, Yu Tu had had no intention to buy a car in the short term. After all, his house was close to his work unit and there was still more than ten years of mortgage payments left for it. 𝐇𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝..."
Additionally, in the book it shows how these types of things are a COMPROMISE between him and JJ: ~"Mrs Yu didn’t think much about it. She knew that 𝐇𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 and automatically thought it was probably his colleague or classmate or such getting a free ride from him. After hanging up the phone, she couldn’t sit still, so she thought she might as well call Mr Yu to go downstairs together to wait.
After waiting downstairs for more than ten minutes, a black car with a Shanghai A license plate appeared at the intersection. She thought it should be Yu Tu’s car. Sure enough, the car stopped in front of her. The car door opened, and the son she had not seen for a long time, 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐭 which she had never seen before, came out from the car."
My point was that these aspects aren't really punctuated in the drama. Yu Tu's new nice white overcoat is missed by viewers without the novel context. She buys him clothes and dresses him up, and he still does the 'nesting' things like building the closet, paying the mortgage and buying himself a car so he doesn't have to take public transportation anymore so he can be available to his g/f at any moment, and do it by his own effort. What does he do when she has the car and he's on his own? He's also known by her fans even though they give them distance and respect. He's not being on public transportation is part of him keeping on the downlow.
I don't think you understand QQ. Please go back and rewatch her conversation with her Manager and assistant she had when she was showing them the closet he made for her in his home. I don't think that any of his issues regarding wanting to pay his own way would cause a rift in their relationship. Maybe someone elses but that's not the couple I'm watching... and that's my point. THIS IS THEIR STORY... these are their feelings. This is the way THEY dealt with their issues. And they're quite happy with it from what I read. ;)
Totally agree with you.. But the way they meet each other parents has also been changed. So, the 1st time that…
The only reason I bring it up is because I don't think viewers who never read the novel give Yu Tu credit for how much he changed throughout the drama. Some even bypassed the part about how he's still paying his own mortgage after 2 years together with JJ and her new attitude about spending money that takes place in the closet. Viewers didn't seem to focus on these little superb details that Gu Man weaved in and out of the dialogue. Many of the negative comments come from a superficial watch along with no understanding of the source material. As I'm watching and reading I just thought it would have added more context to the dynamic of their relationship post-Yu Tu confession. Gu Man purposefully didn't write this drama to be in your face because, as mature viewers, she gave us respect enough to get what's happening between the lines. Yet, here we are with a group of people who say it's boring because it's not blunt and in your face.
I get why they changed it because they changed the way they met the parents.
The difference between the rejections is: The 1st time, YT thought that JJ wasn't a hardworking person, so he…
Again, this is why the conversation at the door of the car at the gas station is very poignant. JJ tells him that he wrote those letters out of pity and that's not what she wants.
Yu Tu's reply is a breakdown of his previous arrogance & pride + JJ's impatience & lack of self respect when it comes to him. Below I highlight some key points to discuss.
𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: "Did I do anything stupid? I've been writing till late everyday. But I never felt tired. I got smug. My expectations ran high. I thought you'd be pleased to know. JJ, to think like this, has my IQ level fallen into a negative? 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮. 𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐲. It's not because I only regretted after reading the chat history. I've regretted it a long time ago. 𝐈 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐭."
"Then, I went on a business trip. I spent over a month in the desert. I thought I was still struggling. But one day I realized, 𝐈 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠. Most of the time,𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭."
𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 & 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭: "I even started blaming you. 𝐈 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧. If you had given me a little more time, 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝'𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐲𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟. 𝐈𝐭'𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐟 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝.... Would you like to be with me?"
1) He started realizing his prejudice against her when they had the argument at restaurant. He starts realizing there's likely a lot going on behind the scenes with her that he's clueless about because he wasn't paying attention. This is why when he comes back he starts actually acting more and more like a boyfriend than just a friend. He gives into her and opens up in ways he never did before. Likely in ways he NEVER did his ex-, Xia Qing, or even his friends. His worries and thoughts aren't things he easily discloses to others.
2) His hesitance after the 1st argument stems from the constant barrage of additional 'relationship' issues he is confronted with watching all his co-workers and mentors discuss the sacrifices they've had to make over time so the man can do his research. This is when Yu Tu's arrogance turns to low self esteem. Those few days away from JJ when he was in Xi'an makes him realize he's got feelings he's never had before. He's scared. He has never paid close enough attention to her and her lifestyle. He was always selfish in his relationships with friends or otherwise, especially since he cannot talk about his work, that he never had to think about what's going on for them. He's completely unaware about her schedule, likely thinking her ability to hang out with him that entire month is what happens on the regular. BUT, now, even if he is working with few true facts in his head because he lacks all the background on JJ, he's still worried about her finding anything about him disfavorable, like not being able to see her often etc. Why is that important now? Because dude has NEVER been in love and he realized how painful the loss was when he was gone just a few days. To connect himself any further, especially if he thinks it cannot workout, will mean he's gonna have a terrible heartbreak. He's already suffered so much by the realizations he discovered about his own parents. That's been torturing him SO much he's thought about quitting aerospace. But what happened in Xi'an solidified that he cannot give that up. So, he's thinking, what's the good outcome??? Me going through what I just went through internally over my parents? It won't work. This is what leads to the 2nd refusal.
3) Never having lost a romantic love he cared about before, now he admits to himself how stupid he is and was. First, the longing had to come hard. The longing finally got him to think about her side for once, not just himself and his feelings. Now he's curious, as he keeps recollecting their conversations he misses. He seeks to find out more about her, like interested males do. He reads not just her chat but the aerospace group chat. Now he knows who JJ is and all those quirky comments she made to him recently that made no sense to him on the surface, including why she'd care whether he gives up aerospace for finance when even his closest friends don't care. This is what he means by saying he didn't struggling for very long. Once the full picture of the past came to light now he's realized what he missed.
4) In the desert he goes over and over and retraces every text and voice clip conversation they've ever had recently with this new perspective. This is the processing from struggling to trying to get back what he's lost. It's like putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. Now he realizes that even today she's cared so much and understood who he is that all his doubting insecurities were based on nothing to do with her. He realizes he screwed up. But like he said, he's never been here before so he has no clue how to approach trying to get back together with her. He's going over and over it and the letters are all he can think to do to make up for his stupidity.
5) A few of viewers who haven't read the book were upset that he said he blamed JJ for what happened. But they take that statement out of context. Not even JJ was upset with it, even though she initially rejects him back, because she understood the CONTEXT in which he was saying this. Her pursuit of him helped to solidify, in the early days, the manner in which he saw her -- frivolous, shallow, superficial. Likely didn't help she's in the entertainment industry as well. Think about what Xia Qing has said and others in the high school chatroom about her. Although he knows better than them she's smart, he still doesn't take her seriously as someone who can be independent and strong individually, which is what he wanted in a mate. Now that he had the time to get to know her, he wished she'd have had more self confidence in that and realize how much of a connection he sees they have nowadays. But, again, she did the same thing. She didn't give herself enough pride and respect to wait for him to come to her like a man should do. He is upset with the fact that, just like he gave her to little credit, SHE GAVE HIM TOO LITTLE CREDIT AS WELL.... she never gives him the chance to workout what he really wants in his heart... which is why her rejecting him is also important and why he doesn't fight her on it... but accepts it and pursues her even more. ;)
No. I have not heard this. As far as I know, what Gu Man wrote in the script is the everything.
Afaik, the last thing that Gu Man did with it was just revise the KTV chapter, because of the too abrupt kiss. But in the end the readers said they preferred the original version.
Per anything I've seen, it just the original 37 Chapters, and the 16 additional epilogues and that's it. As you can see all of it here:
If we're going based on Love O2O, the same site lists all the special chapters, including the naming of the baby... so, I expect that what's listed above for YAMG is all the writing that exists:
Not from China but from what I saw in wb & other chinese media platforms, You are my glory has by far more hype…
The OPL and the game they were playing in FIYS is actually exactly similar to the one they're playing in YAMG. They are both handheld android app games. However, in FIYS they were playing on the computer with keyboard and mouse. That's not how it works. Whereas in YAMG they're using their handhelds and playing the game exactly how it's played and showing the pro players exactly how they are. Thus, even though FIYS is supposedly about PRO esports teams and players, YAMG actually has the more realistic terminology and gameplay shown. To me, that's actually pretty freaking bad and sad. If you're gonna do that genre, esports, then at least do it justice and show the game as it's intended to be played. The esports stuff was 100% overhyped in that drama. Completely unrealistic.
Although I've become an addict of C-dramas because they are so cute and sweet (I just watched Crush and Falling…
I watched FIYS and holy shit was that an overhyped mess with a grown man treating a grown woman like a freaking child who cannot feed herself, in my honest opinion. I repeat: in my honest opinion.
As far as YAMG, I read the novel. The author of the novel this drama is adapted from is the sole scriptwriter. OF COURSE, I'm gonna be hyped and rate it high because the ENTIRE drama is CANON of the novel. So, also, if you didn't like the novel and thought the novel was mere fluff without substance then you'd not have finished EVERY chapter....
This drama is for those people who LOVED THE NOVEL and appreciate it. Our author gave us a complete unadulterated version of her book on screen and that's FREAKING HYPE af because, frankly, THAT RARELY HAPPENS EVER!
So, for those who don't like the novel, or didn't read it and think it should have been written somehow different, that's your prerogative or opinion. Then you should have just dropped it and moved on... not tell us that the author should have CHANGED her novel, or that another NOVEL and its adaptation was better. That's actually kind of rude.
I'd accept this kind of attitude if this drama was like a script and script writers of a K-drama whose standard practice is to WRITE WHILE AIRING so they can hear what FANS BITCH ABOUT, never commit to a direction, and CHANGE it based on popular opinion... But that's not how this drama works.
The difference between the rejections is: The 1st time, YT thought that JJ wasn't a hardworking person, so he…
I think Yu Tu realizes all your points you make for himself as well. You see and hear that when, in the car QJJ is completely ignoring him, sitting in the backseat and he tries to engage her in conversation. He's never had to do this with her before. She goes off on him about why he's even there, and in responds finally with, "...JJ, what you said [i.e. text reply to his letters] SCARED me..." Frankly, he is WELL aware of the possibility that she's just completely over and done with him...
It's also why he pretended he needed GAS when the tank was actually 3/4 full. He need to get her out of the car, and work a way to approach her to get her to look at him and have a conversation with him...i.e. why he was waiting for her at the restroom and stopped her from getting into the backseat of the car...and didn't get any gas... When she gets in the front seat, she too is well aware of the lengths Yu Tu has been going to in order to keep her attention.
So, yeah Yu Tu is VERY scared at that point it may be too late... he HEARD everything QJJ told him outside the car as well. What she wants and doesn't want.. and that's why he acted in ways that are NOT normal for him, like approaching her at the KTV and kissing her in public. She wanted someone who doesn't think about HOW/WHY they love someone and who just is reckless and spontaneous because they're deeply in love... So, that's how he acted. Calling her up... walking around the lake trying to run into her... all of it was him being desperate to keep her attention and focus on him so he doesn't lose her. ;)
I think there are just a couple things that Gu Man left out that I wish she hadn't. I don't know if it was a dynamic discussion and compromise between writer, director, and production due to PPL requirements. I don't recall, was Mercedes Benz a sponsor?
Anyway, in the novel Yu Tu actually, during their 2 years dating, worked to save money to get himself a car. Obviously it was a car that was economically priced for him. However, per Yu Tu's personality, knowing they obviously cannot take public transportation, he knew he needed to drive and, as a boyfriend who wants to do his part and not be 'taken care of', he wasn't okay with using HER car to drive them everywhere. On top of that, fans and Papz knew her vehicle so his was more incognito. I'm sort of sad that they had Yu Tu always driving her car after they get together, and never show he bought his own. =/ Watching the final episodes, that's like one of the only things that didn't sit right with me.
We are now at 3.14B views. The rate is slow, so getting to 3.2 by today is not likely. But the final two episodes…
Junlebao should be giving YangYang a huge bonus for how many Purjoy Yogurt drinks he had!! You know, 'they come in plain and white peach oatmeal.." and couple other flavors. XD ;)
Can anyone recommend some similar dramas, where the romance is mature, with no misunderstanding, cliche plots, villain…
I fear, this is quite a difficult request. If you haven't already seen them all, which is highly likely, we just have to either wait for Gu Man to write another book, or hope some other writers start appreciate her formula. ;)
When they do have that banquet, hopefully, they can post some photos in twitter or instagram and let us share…
I can't imagine they wouldn't at this point. Heck when Yu Tu & JJ posted their marriage certificates on Weibo the entire cast joined in either liking it or making comments, down to the professor and his wife, the aerospace & movie directors, actors, friends, and both sides parents. I just don't see them keeping it private. lol.
Yep. I said the same thing when the drama first started. As a reader 1st I am often disappointed by novel adaptations…
This is not a lengthy story. The actual novel itself goes as far as episode 21. All their life after they become boyfriend/girlfriend is in the 16 epilogues Gu Man later added. It's more like a short story than a full novel, but the whole thing is just simply cute. Jing Jing, as written, is just a wonderful character, and Reba & YangYang really did make the characters come to life in a very good and special way. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it and it should take not much of your time to read. There's a link to the English version online in one of the Discussion posts above. ;)
Yep. I said the same thing when the drama first started. As a reader 1st I am often disappointed by novel adaptations…
As per what we've said, nothing was "subtracted" and what was "added made the story cohesive".
In relation to the novel itself, the perspective is mainly Jing Jing's, but what is happening with Yu Tu when he's not around Jing Jing and his issues are in the novel based on various comments made by Yu Tu, other characters, online commentary & groupchats, and Jing Jing herself.
This is why this drama adaptation is so superb, because the writer herself is the only one who truly knows what is in Yu Tu's heart and mind, even if she didn't explicitly put it in the novel. Thus, the outcome of the drama is an even more well-rounded version of the story with all the Yu Tu gaps filled in... and it's why, I'm guessing, those who read the novel aren't bothered by watching all of Yu Tu's investment and time at work doing aerospace research and experiments in the moments that QJJ and him were separated because he didn't know his heart or her heart, for that matter, yet and was still processing. Others might find it boring but for those who read the novel, we understand that it was a particular process Yu Tu had to go through to find his way to a relationship with QJJ where they can accept each other fully and the lifestyles they lead, that would mean long periods of time a part, and having to be independent enough to handle it without losing sight of their romantic relationship. ;)
Yep. I said the same thing when the drama first started. As a reader 1st I am often disappointed by novel adaptations…
I had said from the start, there was nothing subtracted and what was added made the story cohesive and better all the way around. Yu Tu's perspective was just such a highlight of this drama that was juicer than the novel. Thank God Gu Man was the only one to touch the script. I fear what would have been had it not been this way.

He is upset with the fact that, just like he gave her to little credit, SHE GAVE HIM TOO LITTLE CREDIT AS WELL.... she never gives him the chance to workout what he really wants in his heart... which is why her rejecting him is also important and why he doesn't fight her on it... but accepts it and pursues her even more. ;)

Calling her up... walking around the lake trying to run into her... all of it was him being desperate to keep her attention and focus on him so he doesn't lose her. ;)

Others might find it boring but for those who read the novel, we understand that it was a particular process Yu Tu had to go through to find his way to a relationship with QJJ where they can accept each other fully and the lifestyles they lead, that would mean long periods of time a part, and having to be independent enough to handle it without losing sight of their romantic relationship. ;)
