This drama is a breath of fresh air . I watched it after watching 34 episodes of legend of zang hai and so you can imagine how much rest my brain needed . This isn’t a review for legend of zang hai so I won’t talk much on it . This drama was light hearted and very cliche with the marriage contract but I liked it still . Initially I didn’t want to leave a review or comment but after reading what others wrote I felt the need to write something .
I’ll address the popular complaints first . “The ml’s acting was stiff”. this is such a ridiculous take . The ml was a general that stayed outside the capital constantly fighting. I don’t know what type of expressions other than what he showed that he was supposed to have . He was soft when necessary and strong willed when necessary as well .
Secondly “the fl can’t act”. I understand that opinion is subjective but seriously guys ? Her acting was great and she was just fine .
Her reaction after everything that happened to her father was very logical . No matter how calculative you are , when you lose something or someone you love, it’s hard to still be conniving or think straight . So her actions were justified and the ml never left her during that time .
As someone that has been a victim of ctraumas, I really love this series . All the good guys stayed alive. No unnecessary last minute sacrifice. The king was also very smart . The romance started early too . First kiss scene was in episode 14 . The ml protected the fl several times without fail .
The side characters were cute too although I wasn’t really invested in their relationships . The drama did well by ending it within 30 episodes.
I hope my review is enough to get even one more person to watch this masterpiece of a drama . Watch it and judge for yourself.
Lastly someone also complained about the marriage not being consummated till episode 27. I mean they gave us several kiss and hug scenes before that that I didn’t even notice .

The first time she left Sang yan to study in yihe , she didn’t do it because she was protecting him . She did it to protect herself and she wanted to be in a new space free from her family issues . Yes she did feel sang yan deserved better but that wasn’t her reason for choosing to study elsewhere. The second time she left for Hong Kong was when she truly left to protect sang yan . Me having a different opinion doesn’t mean I didn’t watch the drama properly . So I did feel like your initial statement was a bit rude. I watched it properly . He made that promise to her when they were teenagers in high school and were on the verge of getting into a relationship and later planned to attend the same school . Later on Yifan changed her uni choice and told sang yan that seeing him made her life difficult and should leave her alone . So I still stand on the fact that him consistently flying to see her and watching from afar was stalker like behavior and he wasn’t there for her as he never did anything during those years and she still felt very much alone .

He could’ve supported her work online and even the person selling him the papers mentioned it but he still chose to travel down there so he could see her as well . If she was 10 minutes away , I’ll understand but buying a flight ticket and flying over consistently? And it was definitely more than 4 times . The tickets in that box was a lot and he flew enough times to be a regular customer at the paper place .
Yes he’s a green flag because that’s how the writer wanted us to see him but that doesn’t mean that we can’t call out his character when needed .
Once again it’s a fictional story so a lot of things can pass . I also enjoy fiction and hate overly realistic dramas but I just had to point out his actions because nobody else did .
Lastly 32 episodes were truly too long . There were episodes when the main leads didn’t get more than 15 minutes screen time . So if all those extra scenes with the grandparents and second leads were cut out , definitely 24 episodes would’ve been sufficient

Now I understand that the drama is mainly focused on the fl and how the ml is/has always been there for her but it gets to a point … The fact that even after she rejected him , he still flew to her school city every month to catch glimpses of her and buy newspapers that she contributed to was weird in my opinion.
I feel him attending her graduation should’ve been enough . I let it go when he constantly followed her around during their high school days but in college too and after college ? That’s too much .
It would’ve been way better if the story was written that after the graduation he continued with his life then they met again and his feelings rekindled . Something along those lines would’ve been way better .

This has to be the best Xianxia drama I’ve ever watched . I initially ranked it top 3 but after watching the ending it immediately rose to number 1.
This drama had the best type of relationship between the leads and the best part is there were no misunderstandings. As a dedicated historical cdrama watcher. I couldn’t believe my eyes . I started sitting on the edge of my seat because I felt there’d be a huge misunderstanding ahead that would end my heart as a viewer but thankfully, there wasn’t .
It was 40 episodes and each episode was interesting. I have a habit of skipping scenes that don’t involve the main leads but for this drama , I genuinely didn’t see the need to as almost every scene was engaging.
The visuals for the drama from the styling to the makeup and actors were great . The story too was well written and everything made sense in the end .
I honestly wish I could forget everything and watch it again for the first time . This drama is as important to me as the untamed and ancient love poetry.

People may call him a red flag but I think that’s not true and the real read flag is the fl
I started this drama after I completed blossom . I had to skip through some scenes as I found the other couples to be quite boring but overall it was a good show . I love the main couple and I hope Lin yu gets more lead roles ❤️

If you’re looking for a romance drama, you’re at the wrong place . This series was purely family oriented with a splash of work drama . The main character in this drama was the fl’s mom . She got an insane amount of screentime and attention. The leads didn’t start dating till like episode 26 and it was mainly just them taking turns comforting each other .

This is my first time watching a historical drama that isn’t centered around cultivation and so I didn’t really have any interest . I read the comments here on mdl and was discouraged further but decided to continue and I’m glad I did .
The fl’s character was refreshing to watch . She was always quick on her feet and wasn’t easily bullied which I genuinely loved . I also love how the love story between her and Dylan developed. It wasn’t rushed or forced .
Honestly the drama did get boring at some point for like 5-10 episodes but after those episodes, the drama picked up and I binge watched it to the end . The boring episodes were like from 8-15 . I’m not certain of the exact episodes but it’s around there .
I don’t want to get into the details and end up dropping spoilers but all I’ll say is ignore the negative comments and just watch the series for yourself. Try to hang in there till like episode 16/17 and you’ll be fine .

My personal overall rating was 6.5/10 . Yes the drama was engaging and I binged watched it which I said in the review but I could barely remember most of it. A lot seemed to have happened but when you stop to think , nothing much truly happened. I said I didn’t find the fl annoying too because I saw a lot of TikTok comments dragging her and complaining about how much they hated her character . I watched it and felt otherwise .
