XR didn't lose himself in his despair & desperation to make ends meet. His quick wit and observance helped him through the first few months in Shenzhen.
if it's not just his fictional novel, then for me, the ending is done badly and totally unacceptable. i will have lots of questions unanswered! On top of that, the FL should have died too since she's supposed to have died in Ep#1.

yes, you can call ML's affair with WY as he cheating on her, but under the circumstances, it's the effect from her alienation. However, he didn't hurt the young girl.
