I'm aware Lord Nolan asked to be killed by the warden instead of anyone else's hands other than his. Just puzzled the court officials didn't punish Warden for an unauthorized act.

That's what i meant - the edict death by poison was for the deposed king. So, when Warden pulled the rope that's tied to Lord Nolan, thus killing him, isn't the Warden's action going against the edict? Was the Warden authorized to kill deposed king?

Re the scene timestamped 1:33:08, Han Myeong Hoe's appearance at the shrine.
After Han tells Warden that he, his son and every living thing in his village will be annihilated.
Immediately Lord Nosan shouted angrily at Warden for secretly reading his letter and trapping him there to swear loyalty to Han... "
While Han laughs and Warden tries to say something, the deposed king tells him "Do not say a word".
To me, that means the warden didn't betray Nolan at all. The deposed king was actually trying to protect the warden and the village from annihilation.

I can't remember where i read or who commented that the warden betrayed the deposed king in the end... But I don't find any scene depicting his betrayal.
