Any tips on how to forget that it's Lin's body walking around? I just can't ignore it. The scene where Korn massages…
I don’t think you can, and absolutely should not. It is uncomfortable no mater how you look at it.Korn is literally groping, hugging, touching Lin’s body completely without any form of consent. To all the people who find it “cute” because it is EarthMix, just put yourself in Lin’s shoes and imagine the guy who has a crush on your sibling giving you non consensual cuddling during that time of the month. Hell I am a man and it makes me feel sick.
Got three theories:First: In his former two lives there was always a little brother who was Yeon Seok's real love…
I rly hope it is the first theory. There is a 95% chance that is the way it will go. After i would like three to be the case. The seccond version is just sending the message heterosexual love is even stronger than the repulsive male body, so please no.
I was going to say something snarky about GMMTV choosing money over it's loyal BL audience. But I'm not really…
This, it probably had everything to do with the outdated, contested plotline, the aparently racist scenes, sloppy edditing and overall lack of quality. So probably for the best.
Seeing so many comments of viewers not liking the gender swap is kind of sad. Being bothered that the the male…
I just have to reply because complaining about people beeing uneducated and then making generic ignorant statements just makes me need to say something. Let me preface this by mentioning that as a gay man i am part of the comunity, so i know full well what erasure and tropes mean.
Let me start with the most harmfull, erasive, fetishistic trope in BLs: I don't like men, i just like him. First thing is this does not refer to pansexuality. That means you love people regardless of gender. So you can not like every woman on the planet and one guy and be pansexual, that is the exact oposite of the word. A pansexual person would have loved a multitude of people of diverse genders (and even those that lack one) and sexualities. AT best an more apropriate term would be demisexual, but even that is mostly inacurate, since most of this characters had crushes on girls they barely knew beforehand. NO the trope gay for you was invented by people who want to see a relationship between two men, but at the same time opose the LGBT comunity with all their might. The character is still streight, sometimes even homophobic, but makes an exception for this one person, because reasons. THAT is fetishization. The character is not bi or pan, just streight.
Now in your post you seem to equate the BL genre with the LGBT genre. They are NOT one and the same. BL comes from BOYS LOVE, as such it is a subgenre of the LGBT genre, and more specificly a subdivision of Yaoi, from witch it was born. As such the romance between 2 boys is esencial so that a swow be called a BL. Any version in witch a girl is present in such a romance as a participant moves the show out of the BL genre and eigther into the streight world or the LGBT genre, depending on execution. Also calling a girl's soul inside a male body as a man is extremly dismissive of the trans comunity. Would you look a beautifull trans girl in the eye and call her a man just because she was unfortunantly born into a male body? I hope not. The presence of a body/gender swap in a show does not necesarely make it bad (tho usually it is treated as a joke, and dismissive of the trans comunity, but that is another matter), but it does make it not a BL.
Now for the last part, in reference to your coment that the BL industry is "profiting off these ill-informed misconceptions by showcasing a narrow view of the lgbtq+ community". That indeed used to be the case, mostly in the Yaoi genre, when BL was made by streight women for streight women. But nowadays, so many others, members of the LGBT comunity are directly involved in the making of BL. There are many gay men and lesbians involved in making BLs, there are out actors taking center stage. But to be upset BLs (Boy Love) does not depict relasionsips between trans/nonbinary members of out comunity or boy/girl romances (that are usualy depicted in the broader LGBT media) is like complaining a horror movie did not have enough pirates, or why there are no Dinosaurs in Shakespeare, they are different genres.
And in response to the post under yours, it is absolutly insulting to insinuate that complaining about body/soul swaps means you are not a part of the comunity, or are an enamy of it, because we are so fluid and diverse, that is exactly what our enemyes and conservatives shout from the roof tops. That is the reason conversion therapy exists. If sexuality was fluid, there would not be any homophobia, since our enemies would experience same sex love all the time, and no man would be executed for beeing gay because they could just love wemen and be spared a LITERAL DEATH SENTANCE. Yes, bisexuality/pansexuality exists, it is valid and must be suported and loved, but to generalize it and say sexuality is fluid is an insulte.
Sry for the long post, had to get it off my chest.
I read the twist about what Ha Yeon's sister is the real Ha Yeon, then why Mikael did not say anything about it…
They were probably in on it. In the 1st ep there are 2 clues in this regard. For one they never even use the word she when refering to the first love, always using a gender neutral pronoume, so they were probably searching for the guy. Now why would they? In the forst ep when the ML was going to feed the 'cat' and met the 'FL' there were already 2 bowls of food there, so my theory is that the Gumiko made a deal with the brother in the past as well to help him get the guy he loved. Just a theory tho.
On twitter there were pictures going around of the waiter/editor being alive as a man in the past as well, and the female first love being alive as a woman in the present. They are in fact brother/sister and have been brother/sister in all lives. They are not the same reincarnated soul, but were always different ppl. So the title does not refer to the writer meeting his first female love again for the third time in a male body, but the brother/waiter/editor meeting and falling in love with his sisters old BF a third time.
Long time lurker decided to make a post since I have seen many people here complaining about the rating being too low (and I agree it is).
I believe the main culprit is the marketing. It was trying to have universal appeal and in doing so appealed to few people. The main premise of the show that was announced is that a man has been in love with a woman for two lifetimes. She is now reborn as a man, and the ML has to get over it and love her again. This will not appeal to many people. For the het kdrama crowd it is mostly too gay for many of them to enjoy. But in the BL crowd there is a deep hatred many hold for soul/gender swaps (you can mostly thank The Shipper for that). Also the premise is alienating for may BL watchers. The idea from the trailer seems to be that the love he had for HER is so strong it can even overcome the icky male body she is in at the moment, and that is an instant nope for many.
I have seen may mentioning that since the soul is genderless and she is in a male body than she is a man. But remember that there are hundreds of version of reincarnation myths. Most shows have their own lore as to how reincarnation works. Is it the same person? Is it a different person? What remains and what is new each cycle? So not all versions of the reincarnation myth have a genderless soul that can be any man/woman/animal (I believe, tho' I can be wrong, that is the Hindu version). For many BL watchers their contact with reincarnation is from UWMA and there the past life bleed into the present one so much even the character at one point or another thought they were the past life version, especially near the end. Also keep in mind that in the past life she is played by the same actress each time (and the ML is again played the same actor each time) further reinforcing the idea that it is the same person each time .
So overall all those factors lead to the abysmal (for the quality of the show) rating.
BUT, I know many saw the spoilers on twitter so we know this is 100% a BL. I just wish that the spoiler was part of the trailer, so even if the characters were in the dark about the real plot, the viewers were not. The ratings would have been much better than. Anyway I believe once the rumoured plot twist happens the rating will go up
Edit: Since writing this i see the rating went up. For the record the rating at the time of writing this was 7.5
