My favorite Time Travel drama is still 'Queen In Hyun's man', nothing beats that! I also enjoyed 'Tunnel' a lot, but Time Travel doesn't play such an important role for the plot.
'Live up to your name, Dr. Heo' takes spot Nr. 3.
Couldn't get into 'Hit the Top', and 'My only love song' was just plain bad. I guess it's cute if you accept it's not to be taken seriously.
This was not what I thought it was gonna be. Has some cute and funny parts but most of the time I was confused…
I can see how this is confusing to you. From the looks of fashion and industry, I thought this should be set around 1930s, after the annexation of Korea to the Japanese Empire and just around World War II. However, there is mention of the sino-japanese war, which was actually around the end of the 19th century (1894 if I remember well), before the Japanese gained military power over Korea. But I guess, it could also be implied World War II, which had a series of conflicts in East Asia known as the Second Sino-Japanese war. I think there was also a time the Japanese conquered Manchuria, which would explain why they tried to send young women there (if you're unfamiliar with the history, women were fooled into believing they could learn and study there, but in reality they were sent as prostitutes ('comfort women') for the soldiers in Manchuria at that time. Anyway, this is mostly what I remember from watching 'Bridal Mask', which is a really good drama explaining that time. A little can also be seen in 'Chicago Typewriter'. It is definitely a very interesting yet sad part of Korean history. Since this special was a romantic comedy, they didn't paint it too dark this time around, but it was a very harsh time for 'Joseon'/Korean natives compared to Japanese or those with money and power who supported the Japanese Empire. I really recommend both of the dramas to you!
@klmnumbers hahahaha I laughed. I agree that aside from Sun Jae, most characters barely showed reaction. I mean…
Well, I think it would have made more sense if they had shown at least one more time traveller or something, to show us it's not just that one guy that managed to do it. The way I see it, it's not precisely the 'Tunnel' that made time travel possible, but something like Kwang Ho's desperation. If he didn't travel in time, he would have never managed to find the culprit, his daughter might have died as well. So it was something like... a miracle granted to him so he could make things right? So, of course for him, the Tunnel was the starting point while chasing the culprit, so all the time travels could only happen there, but if there are other time travelers, it could be different reasons and different places, too. At least that's what I would like to believe, because other wise it wouldn't really make sense. I also was sure he would not be able to return because I thought it had to be the two of them there for it to work. Since that wasn't the case, it's the only possible explanation, a 'miracle' xD Oh well, time travel is always a sensitive matter...
i think the saddest scene was when that lady named her son Park Kwang ho... i don't want to think about what…
If the future is the future and not a parallel universe (which we can assume, as the fountain pen was there because he left it behind in the past), the future will change as long as he manages to find the culprit sooner. I think they left it open ended so that everyone would be satisfied. There are always people who don't want the ending to be so spelled out for them, so I think it was a good way to do it: We know he went back to the past but we don't know if he caught the culprit, so the future is unknown. I personally hope for the happiest change. And off Seon Jae and Jae Ji should still end up together, no matter which future :D It would just make me a bit sad because realistically speaking their characters would be quite changed, because they went through such different experiences. Oh well...
Alright, so I finished and I am totally conflicted about the score I ought to give this drama. I absolutely loved all the fantastic actors, the character dynamics, even the villain to some extent, the music and most of the writing, that was very smooth, except for some shortcomings here and there. I must say that it lost a bit of steam as it went along, some scenes felt repetitive and the way the police worked made me want to tear my hair out at times. Even so, the first two thirds or so of the drama were brilliantly executed and I cannot recall a boring second in those moments. I loved the switches between future and present. Thus I will settle on a score of 8.5/10 despite the obvious flaws. I might change my mind once I rewatch this and find more to nitpick, but for now the enjoyment of the show still wins. The characters will be missed dearly!
I just watched ep 15, and I am so so so so so annoyed. I mean, the police wasn't the brightest in the first place and Shin Jae Yi did all the work, mostly, but they are reaching new levels of stupidity. 1. If a culprit took a hostage and is hiding out somewhere, you do NOT waltz in with your police sirens on full blast just to make sure the culprit knows exactly when you're coming. Also, how about properly GUARDING the fucking streets next to the hideout, especially if he has managed to weasel out several times. 2. If a certain person has been threatened, abducted and nearly killed not only once but FOUR times, the police should maybe think about giving her some kind of protection or surveillance until the culprit is caught, right? 3. ... Seon Jae, I love you to pieces, but don't take anything a murderer gives you and place it right at your desk. Just don't. But okay, let's say the bug attack couldn't be avoided, I was proud of him when he was like 'shhhh' to everyone when he discovered it, and like: 'yesss, finally a good move, they can set up a trap to catch him!!! Jackpot!', but NO, Kwang Ho takes the fucking bug and DESTROYS IT, and I am speechless, because HOW STUPID CAN HE BE???
That's just a faction of the things that made me doubt the police is good enough for anything, really, but the writing leaves more to be desired: If the killer is really such a brilliant master mind who leaves no traces, how can he - NEVER wear gloves or change his clothes, there must be some traces of DNA be left on the victim or his own clothing; the victims always have blood under their fingernails, but ofc. no skin or blood of the murderer is ever found - kill his victims where people could walk or drive by anytime without anyone ever seeing or hearing something (like, dude, I am pretty sure taking off the stockings and using them to wrap the victim up would take quite some time...) - when he abducts SJY for the second time, there is a CCTV right there, and they conveniently only show the part where he leans in her car --> how could they not show how she was drugged and then carried out, wrapped up and placed into his trunk when the CCTV was RIGHT fucking there?? It was in front of the university building, HOW are there no witnesses?? I could go on and on and on, I loved the show so far, but I feel like nothing in this concerning the 'great' killer makes any sense. Deep sigh and on to the final episode, which hopefully will be the saving grace.
There's a lot this drama teaches you about life. It seriously made me think and cherish those around me so much…
While I agree with you that it seems rather sudden, it's the ring imprint that made Ban Do realize why they came back. In fact, normally if you wear wedding bands for a long time, you'll end up having some kind of white spot where the sun doesn't tan the skin, and if you take it off, it'll leave a mark, but only for about two days or so. But he realized that they both had the ring 'imprints' even weeks after they arrived, as if the ring was still there but 'invisible' of sorts? And when he asked Jin Joo how long she had the mark, she also said 'since I came here', so he figured it was about getting the rings back and putting them in the place they belonged. Anyway, your comment is so true, it really teaches you about life and the importance of your loved ones :)
Alright, so I finished and I have to say that this drama is absolutely beautiful. The final episode had me in tears and yet this drama managed to lift a heavy weight of my heart for some reason. There are so many life-lessons hidden in this gem and I cannot applaud everyone involved in this project enough. I was hesitant to watch it, because of 'emergency couple' and I didn't like the premise, but I am so so so glad I gave this a chance. If you're hesitating, watch the first couple of episodes, and you'll most likely be captivated. I love how there are really no malicious characters in this drama (except for maybe our 'Dr.'), and especially the second leads were a saving grace. While there is definitely romance, this drama is actually more about family in all shapes and forms. A. 9/10 in my books for now.
I am at episode 6 and I am seriously developing SLS, especially for Nam Gil, but I also like the ballerina. I think it's obvious how the drama is going to end, but I am really curious how they will turn it around without it seeming too forced. And I need Jang Ki Yong in a leading role asap, that guy stole my heart!
Omg thank you for that comment! I would have missed it if it wasn't for you. I have hearts in my eyes now, ahhhhh. I was wondering what happened to her, so happy now, omg! I want a second season or special *O*
I just finished this great drama, and I can say I enjoyed every second of it. I think it might be one of my 2017 favorites! While 'Queen In Hyun's man' is still my favorite time-travel romance, 'Live up to your Name' comes pretty close to it. The story, writing and characters make the drama worth its while. It is quite interesting to see a drama that shows both Eastern and Western medicine come together. I especially appreciated how realistically they portrayed the sentiments and confusion that must come with a delicate subject like time travel. I feel like in shows with lacking writing, it can be a stretch, but I never felt that way in this drama. Secondly, it is neither a 'love at first sight' nor a 'hate to love' kind of romance. It very clearly shows the transition and growth of their feelings. There are parts that are hilarious, others are heartbreaking, but overall I simply felt inspired and thankful for this drama. 9/10 from me for now.
Totally agree with you on those two dramas, although I thought the ending episodes of Chicago Typewriter were…
Ah, I found my comment on the series again, and I also said the last three episodes were the best. I just remember I didn't like the kidnapping subplot near the end of the series in the modern times, it was annoying. But the last episodes in the 'old times' were really the best, I agree on that.
This year has been really great for serious crime, detective, law, thriller, or mystery dramas, but a horrible…
Absolutely right. Age of Youth 2 was my favorite comedy with romance, although it cannot be seen as your typical romcom. Fight For My Way was pretty decent, had flaws as well though. Because this is my first life was nice, not very funny, though. That's about it for romance :(
Yooooo. I agreed with most of the reasoning for why you dropped them. I did, however, finish 'Suspicious Partner'…
I think it's a good mindset to have, wanting to know more about the history. It makes those kind of dramas so much more valuable! Personally I must say I've never understood the fast forward buttons etc. I never skip scenes, either. If there is a drama where I feel I need to skip scenes, I drop it. Waste of time. I agree with you on 2017 being very divided. Many dramas started off so strong and then fuzzled out into a real disappointment. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon was such a case for me unfortunately. Oh well, let's really hope for 2018!

The poster is really bad, though, it should get a new picture!

Messing with our feelings using parents and/or grandparents is never okay. Ahhhh, my poor heart. MOM, I LOVE YOU!!
