Zhou Ye: "So much on the face or on the clothes?", "I dare not!" Hou Ming Hao: "I can accept it, come on~" Yan Hui: "This is what I just picked this morning. Maybe there are still flowers?!" . . . . Zhou Ye: "My splash is too good, one pass~"
so funny and youku youtube "forgot" to add it on their channel
By the way this is also a lie written in the "review" above that quoted "Let me warn you the romance doesnt begin till the last episode".
The romance starts very early on, it is just like sb wrote in the comments below "slow blooming love" and that's what is the most beautiful about this drama, you may not be sure about "love" but the tension and the burning desire can be felt from the beginning there (and that's what a good romance is).
This is ridiculous of MDL to edit this drama back and forth from 30 episodes to 20 episodes.
Although it was years ago but I watched 32-episode DVD version twice and also compared to the 26-episode version. The 26-episode version doesn't cover a full story.
And I don't mean an additional part filmed solo by Zhou Yumin in a mountain village for mainland China (which was by the way filmed half a year after the drama had completed shooting). I mean the main plot and the romance part. There is a huuuuge leap in the plot there which makes it impossible for viewers to understand the development of events and the place/point where the main couple find themselves in their romantic relationship suddenly.
So for that reason, this should be only stated as a 32-episode drama (as 26-episode version is incomplete). I've never heard of a 20-episode version...
"The youth of Lu Xiaolu is like a wild grass that no one cares about. The stunned youth who speaks out with justice, has a shy temperament without fear of the sky and the earth, and the depressed teenager is awakened by love, carrying a chaotic and charming sexual tension. The faith of the young is like the short-lived kingdom of Babylon. But Babylon will eventually disappear, with towering chimneys and factory buildings collapsing silently, and the mighty loneliness buried in the billowing dust. The teenager finally found that ideals are like the moon in the water and the flowers in the mirror, and they can't be found."
(quoted as English translation)
Put nicely but the allegory is too far-fetched. The title sounds awfully pretentious (pompous) given that the novel talks about a down-to-earth life of a low-class worker in China of 90s.
It's a feature of youthfulness to have ideals. Every young man will have their ideals and sooner or later will meet their disappointment. No need to use "grand" words. Like a cheap pulbicity gimmick to call out a word which most people out there have a vague notion of.
Is he keeping his long hair to look a little,, 'ruffian' in here? .. That wig in our times.. Arghh goodness..…
he didn't have a wig in Our Times... he had a very short haircut
about this drama - yesterday's conversation on weibo: a question from a fan: What's Lu Xiaolu's hairstyle? You are still reluctant to cut Neo's reply: The director won't let me spoil
so we still need to wait for an answer I would like a "ruffian" look, they could keep his hair long as fas as I'm concerned
Yeah.. I even went to goodreads trying to get a clue 🙄😅
Sure , I know what the ancient city was but how is the city related to China? because I don't see the connection there.... English spelling "babylon" says it's derived from the same thing/place name but as the term for what?
"Young Babylon" sounds even more ridiculous, anything that is associated with "babylon" is old (old city, old song). It would be better if they could change the English title before the release.
I visited Yang Cai Yu's weibo, she's a pretty woman, and she's a matured woman, undoubtedly. 30 years old is a beautiful age for a woman, her beauty is glowing now, but her age might be a sort of pressure for a younger actor. In my watchlist I have several dramas where the romantic relationship is between an older woman and a younger man, so the gap is not a problem for me. What I said earlier, the reason is there are two things I may be afraid.
The first one: they can (again) put a heavy make-up on Hou Ming Hao to make him look older. And after 2 years of messing up with his appearance continuously starting from Our Times, through FMG, Hu Tong, Back From The Brink, and The Outcast, I would really love to see a break from the artificial look.
The second one: Hou Ming Hao has been always shy of women (in general, I'd say). He's been also avoiding playing modern love dramas. Most of his shows are either costume fairy-tales or the love theme is secondary and not properly developed. So despite of what he said in WWW Love Story (that he wanted to experience more mature concept of love on screen), maybe he's still not confident in himself. Choosing a period drama over a modern drama (again) set in the 90s (again) is kind of lame in my view, but maybe this one is the closest he can get now. Partnering a mature woman will be a challenge for him, and he must be really convincing here, otherwise it will be embarrassing.
I also hope that Neo will not have any "brilliant" suggestions for the director this time. Like in When We Were Young - to change a real kiss scene into a kiss on the girl's forehead. It turned a sweet romantic act into a paternal gesture, too bad the director agreed. Or like in Our Times - to put dark powder on his face. The poor light and gloomy filters made his complexion look "dirty" in some scenes. Unfortunately, the director approved. And no kisses at one-metre distance, please. Not again.
In the end I'm still not sure, is it a romance drama?
Yeah.. I even went to goodreads trying to get a clue 🙄😅
a Chinese pub somewhere in Canton where young people could meet in the 90s? (loose guessing... there are such clubs in my country.... spelt like that: b-a-b-y-l-o-n)
talking bout his face...especially his nose...I notice the MUA loves to darken shading around his nose so it become…
How many of fancam videos/pictures have you seen compared to studio ones? His face and nose without make-up gets immediately leaner. Many fans who have seen him at close range say his face looks perfect without make-up ("so slim"/ "so small").
For any studio photos /videos it's rather obvious why they use make-up, at least they stopped making his eyebrows thick & all-coloured like they used to do in 2018.
I think his nose actually looks "heavier" in many studio photos and this is the way he prefers (my impression). It's also the camera angles they choose, there has always been a sort of "clash" between how fans want to see him and how he wants to see himself.
It's impossible he could use make-up or shading for swimming & diving in the heavy rain so you can have a close look at his perfect nose here (Studio, June 8): https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4778155687021712 (enlarge pic no. 2)
At present this is what the rumour says: the drama adapted from the novel of the same name by Lu Nei ( Chinese: 路内 ) directed by Lin Yu Xian https://kisskh.at/people/47235-ahmeow-lin starring Hou Ming Hao, Yang Cai Yu is expected to start filming on 30th June in Shantou, Guangdong province.
I don't know about the rumour... the actress is 5 yrs older than Neo, and looks too old to me....hmm.... But it's confirmed that Hou Ming Hao is in Guangdong now, arrived yesterday at Jieyang Chaoshan Airport (near Shantou).
oh... you've only watched TLT2 and WWWY - both were filmed 4 years agono wonder you couldn't recognize him
that will be problematic... because he doesn't use his looks in dramas unless sb can see his glory through make-up, wigs, caps with artificial hair attached, or grey-dyed hair tighly drawn back in a bun (the last look seen in The Outcast)
I really wish he could stop all the masquerade and go back to real acting and dramas where he could show his real face and own hair, like he did at the beginning of his career in his first dramas CP and WWWY
I saw this indignant comment on season 3 page by sb who couldn't understand how the parents left their babies for one month with some celebrity guys.
Well, first of all this is not true. Despite what the above description says. At least not true if it comes to season 1. It's not like the things were done in reality.
I wrote a post below (hidden under "spoiler") about how the show was recorded. For those who want to enjoy the show as it is (fiction) I suggest reading only after watching.
The first time I watched the show I didn't know about these facts. When I watched it the second and third time with english subs I already knew about it all but it never spoiled my fun.
