13 Assassins was a remake; I am sure you would've liked the original too. As for more Samurai films with Miike then I strongly agree, he can do them so well. Have you seen the remake of Harakiri? The 2011 version?
Also, since you love Miike; you should watch the "Death or Alive" trilogy, it's yakuza but I am sure you will love it.

I am sure you would like it; I believe the subbers did a great job by not depriving you of this one although they're quite late (it reached five episodes while only three subbed episodes are available). It also has its own dark comedy view but it's a serious drama.

I must say that Japanese melodramas aren't my favourites out of this genre since I prefer theri detective and pure suspense/mystery dramas but you're right, they make things very appealing most of the time.
