This is a commercial work that has to appeal to a wide audience so even if the scriptwriters wanted to do something, they have to think about the general audience and investors.

I liked the drama enough to watch it till the end but that doesn't mean I can't point out the parts I found annoying.

For those wondering about ML pointedly calling FL A-Li, it also could be a reference to a story of the "Crown Prince being replaced by a cat" which is what FL is doing by taking on JL's identity. Her jade pendant is also shaped like a cat and it's in the OP credits.

The actresses playing the villains in this drama are so good. They're having fun with the role😂

Lol! I'm aware what life was like for women in the past. It doesn't excuse all these jealous women acting like this just to add some melodrama and angst to the plot.

I'm watching the drama so will judge it on its basis. Many people won't or can't read the novel .

The fact is this drama is too long. 10 eps can be easily cut.

Wu Jinyan's acting deserves praise. She can pull off the various microexpressions needed for each scene. Her Monalisa-like smile in some scenes is particularly chilling because one isn't quite sure what she's conveying. Like that popular line in Chinese novels: "a smile that is not a smile".

I'm looking forward to her other costume drama now.
