The problem with people like you is that when faced with a different perspective that you don't share, you all think the person offering that perspective is against you. Nowhere have I said that Cixin Liu is right but you just automatically assumed that I share his viewpoint just because I asked you to consider his actions from another angle. I just want you to recognise that not everyone has the same privilege as we do. Try to do away with this black and white mentality. Not everyone has that luxury of speaking out . Tbh, I feel like your opinions on what Cixin Liu should or shouldn't have done might be coming from a place of privilege. You probably live in the US (or at least a western country) and haven't experienced or grasped what it's like to live in an autocratic state where things as little as speaking out can change the entire trajectory of one's life. It's totally against your worldview and that's why you think would be easy for him to say something that would get him killed or incarcerated. In such a situation, people really cherish the little freedom they have and wouldn't trade it for anything. Of course, if Cixin Liu lived in Washington DC (where the interview was held) instead of China, I imagine he would have all the freedom to say anything he wants about the government.

The pacing Episodes 18 and 19 is quite glacial; particularly Ep 18. Dunno if it's because they're taking the time to explain the scientific concepts but honestly the entire episode shouldn't have been dedicated to Ye Wenjie revealing to Wang Miao that the Red Coast Base was being used for SETI. There were so many things that could have been cut from that episode and it would still get the point across. Now that season 2 has been greenlit, I really hope they fix the pacing issues

He probably said what he was supposed to say given the current political climate. He's a very public figure living in China. His means of livelihood is tied to the favour of the Chinese government so I don't expect him to reveal any negative feelings he may have about the government's treatment of the Uyghurs. Some people just have to adapt to the situation they've found themselves in. He's probably not courageous enough to put himself and his entire family at risk by speaking out.
