One main difference also is when Sol gets back to the past, there is continuity to the previous events in the past. In Shining, the fabric of reality from that past is like getting purged which is I find sadder and has more nuance.

Gao Ge is one of the weakness of the film. This side story is underdeveloped but overall, the movie is a good adaptation of the series
