A lot of blood and gore in decently interesting scenes but suffers from a total lack of plot direction and follows it up with a rather unsatisfying ending.
Starts off strong and interesting but loses fire around the 10th episode; could have been much shorter. Good actors and decent comedic scenes but overall didn't really keep my attention.
Beautiful chemistry between the main couple and a lot of sweet scenes, however, beyond those there is just too much emphasis on business and a rather cringy second female lead that will annoy you to death.
The romance was a bit forced and out of place, but if you look at it from another point of view on how vulnerable…
I feel like if they had more episodes for that particular development it would have made it a lot less forced and out of nowhere, particularly the sex scene itself. I did read the director's interview and understood his perspective on why it was needed, but in the end, they made that scene and any other romantic scenes that followed truly awkward to watch.
I agree with you though, ML was a necessary contrast and a link to humanity for the FL but their relationship was sadly underdeveloped.
Some true FL badassery in this one, with good actors and a pretty nice musical background to go with it. However, the story is predictable right from the very start so it starts crumbling rather rapidly right from the first episode.
While I did enjoy the numerous fighting scenes and attempts of the two sides to outsmart each other, there was a really weird romantic development that came out of nowhere and was kind of cringy to watch (if I'm not mistaken even the actors themselves looked uncomfortable with it). If anything, Yoon Ji Woo and Choi Moo Jin have the biggest chemistry in the whole show, which was amusing to watch by itself as a separate observation besides the main plot. I don't know if it was truly intended to be that way but it sure made me watch the whole thing.
A short, bloody, predictable thriller if you're looking for something new to watch on Netflix.
You summarized everything I feel about this show! Came here to post that I really enjoy the last 24 episodes once…
It's always a hit or miss when it comes to this genre... if they don't ruin the protagonists then they ruin the rest of the cast and in either scenario they make it nearly impossible to watch. Considering the international popularity of the Chinese drama market they could at least push for smarter script revision if the OG novels are this stale when it comes to character tropes and cliches.
But yeah, loved the main actor in this and will definitely check out the drama you mentioned, thanks for the recommendation! :)
What a fun little story about family and love. The romance didn't feel forced even though it is based on contractual marriage and the little boy was the best role in the whole drama due to his hilarious antics to get his parents to be together.
There is a plot device later on in the story that attempts to show a previously mature and smart FL as juvenile and dumb, but thankfully it gets resolved in about an episode so I won't nitpick much. Good chemistry between the leads, decent side couple, second male lead who has common sense and is very helpful to the little family, lovable grandparents, and a barely present second love interest who is clearly as uninteresting to the ML as she is to the viewers are all that made this so great!
I was clearly sarcastic with that statement, which you could see if you read past that sentence or the original comment? During my time of watching this drama, I saw a lot of comments where the viewers eventually evened out the sufferings of the main couple by saying they both suffered or she suffered more because of everything we find out in the end, which I think is a completely different point here.
Cheese, cheese, cheese. But hey, at least the couple had chemistry and quick conflict resolution - it was honestly a good show to watch. I fast-forwarded through the second pairing because they were a gigantic snoozefest with zero chemistry to speak of, but thankfully the main pairing leaves little to be missed when it comes to romance and what the viewers want to see.
Besides a few parts of the story that don't make sense, the main problem I had with it is that the FL is supposed to be a great designer but the outfits she wears and designs were terribly mediocre. If she was supposed to be an up-and-coming designer with an abundance of creativity and innovation then at least let her wear and present interesting clothing combinations.
Overall, when it comes to contract marriage dramas, this is probably one of the better ones out there as the romance hits off pretty quickly, which makes any problems they both face later on quite mild and ineffective in ruining their relationship.
Oh but you know, Xuan Ji clearly suffered more so it's all balanced and fair! It's not like her story has to do with completely different things that we don't get to experience more than a fraction so we, as the viewers, don't actually care much. Imagine if they do a reverse plot where it's her entering the chamber of scriptwriter torture BDSM in the second season, I am definitely staying faaaar away from that lol.
Should've been named 'Torturing Si Feng in all horrible ways for 59 episodes and the viewers by listening to others call his name over 1000 times'. The man was too good to be true but you really had to be a sadist to watch everything the show puts him through. He very much reminded me of Hua Qian Gu from The Journey of Flower in how much everything and everyone was against him for no reason. There wasn't a plot device that didn't include one or more misunderstandings; the FL suffered from stupidity syndrome through a big chunk of the drama which was infuriating to watch; everyone demonized a group of people based on nothing but speculation; people went around tormenting others based on prejudice and didn't even get a tongue lashing for it... nothing that you haven't already seen in a xianxia before. However, the last ten episodes or so were the saving grace and ended up making the show good again... if you can stand shoveling through the mountain of angst and misunderstandings first. Despite the effort to rectify all that has been done, I still firmly think that Si Feng deserved so much better than what he got.
The way the plot was handled at times was quite annoying to watch as it veered off into nonsensical territory, but thankfully it was mostly salvaged by good acting. Ji Sung was amazing like usual but I fell for Kim Min Jung's character, she was a delight. Aside from the critique of society and people in power, the show largely relied on the intricacies of the relationship between Kang Yo Han and Kim Ga On. In fact, if we look past the homophobic censorship (and the annoying straight romance with zero chemistry that was awkwardly sprinkled into this just to not make it gay) it's also a beautifully done love story of two contrasting mindsets that eventually, through trial and error (the whole show basically), find a common ground. No seriously, the chemistry and connection caught me off guard, well done! I would heartily recommend it just based on their relationship, it's that good.
Nice little drama except for the fact that some characters never get punished and are forgiven easily after causing a shitfest. That is by far the number one infuriating thing that seems to be very common across many Chinese dramas. Sigh.
I was very surprised by the lack of censorship this show had in comparison to The Untamed (which still very much showed a romantic story despite being gutted at times), so watching this was a joy. As someone who has read the book first, I must say that the production and structure of events as they showed them in the show are levels above how the writer has done. All in all, it's nice that we're getting more of these stories from writers such as Priest, MXTX, RBBCR, and co.
There is some extensively awkward and wooden acting from the FL and pretty decent acting from ML (+ support cast) but the director representing MOBAs in such a cringy manner made me lol. Naw man, this guy never picked up LoL/Dota/etc which shows because those scenes were just hella cheesy to watch due to dramatics. Can actual gamers get some real representation that doesn't want to make us yeet the pc out of the window? But yeah, good little drama if you're only in it for the romance.
Boring, boring, boring, had to drag myself through watching this from about episode 16 onwards. Character consistency is non-existent, as well as any good writing. Weak FL, wishy-washy ML, and demonization of female characters in general when it comes to forced romance storylines, oh piss off with that trope already! If the ending seems utterly idiotic to you, don't worry, youtube has alternate ones because of viewers' outrage. What a mess.
Had a really fresh start but became the usual romance mold in the latter half, with characters being all over the place (except for the second couple). There was a lot more that could've been done with characters like these considering how interesting they appeared to be in the beginning.
I agree with you though, ML was a necessary contrast and a link to humanity for the FL but their relationship was sadly underdeveloped.
