What a huge contrast between this series and another new GMMTV offering airing concurrently!
Krist and Gawin took this Ep 9 into another level this week! Such maturity and natural ease in portraying their characters. And Aye just gave us another stunning performance! This series just gets better and better!
In fact, I'm just enjoying watching them bring these characters to life! I can tell these actors did their workshops diligently and totally shine in their scenes! The supporting cast perfectly complemented the leads.
This is the way GMMTV!
Perhaps they should just mix the newbies with these experienced actors. At least then they will learn from them how to emote and express naturally.
Focus on letting your existing rich pool of experienced actors shine on these projects! Don't forget about them! They built the foundation for BL dramas and they should be treasured!
Keep going! I hope this gets better next week! This series is gonna be one of the best in GMMTV.
How do I explain Camp? It's a very broad term but in college we often reference to:
"According to Susan Sontag, Camp is a sensibility that revels in artifice, stylization, theatricalization, irony, playfulness, and exaggeration rather than content.
Camp aesthetics disrupt many of modernism's notions of what art is and what can be classified as high art by inverting aesthetic attributes such as beauty, value, and taste through an invitation of a different kind of apprehension and consumption."
Many BL productions have camp themes. I hope this helps!
What happened to Season 2? Why do I get the feeling that they were forced to make this? Why is Minato still so reserved towards Shin? I had dated an older Japanese guy before and he wasn't this reserved in terms of his emotions. Communication guys! Anyway, I'm taking a pause of this series now. Maybe will drop it.
This is GOOD! I love this already and there's a backstory of them being childhood friends? I'm hooked. Can we have 2 eps per week? This is the cure for me for Step By Step. Can't wait for the next ep! Chemistry is good!
MAME production. Mm-uh. Camp acting and dialogue, questionable plot, in this case arranged marriage and approved cheating by the bride-to-be.
So... is this gonna be this generation of Ang Lee's The Wedding Banquet (1993)? Got it. This is where you are going for this series At least this show sets the tone right from the start. A PaiSky wedding! I'm actually touched. Crying inside.
Okay i'm in. Indulge all your campiness on me! I needed this to wash away the stench of current BL shows! Great start!
This is how a current BL show SHOULD be! Actors who understands their characters and actually GO FOR IT! You don't see them trying to memorise lines while they speak! They ARE the characters from MAME's mind (no pun).
Pak 's Namnuea is fantastic! Can't believe this is his first tv role? What? Silly goofy and trying his hardest to understand his new client's wedding needs. Sunny's Sailom is flirty and mysterious. I wanna know more about you! Why are you being forced to enter a arranged marriage? I hope it gets explain soon! Chemistry is off the roof!
Prologue looks promising! Acting is natural and cinematography is stunning. I had a look at the trailer and it looks pretty intriguing! Can't wait to see another BL from HK!
Okay I loved the series in the beginning and then it just went nowhere - and it had so many opportunities especially…
yes they could had added more plot into the earlier episodes because the forge campaign is really a small part of the story. Theres so many storyline from the novels they could had added in.
The casting is perfect! I don't know what people are complaining about Ben. Pat is EXACTLY like that in the novels!
What more do you want? Seriously? WHAT MORE DO U WANT?! Ben was acting EXACTLY like Pat in the novels!
And mind you, this is already a very impressive performance for an acting newbie like Ben! At least Ben doesn't have a blank look on his face and can actually emote the irritating senstivity and childishness of Pat properly! He has a natural screen presence and ease of delivering his lines without the viewers being worried about him 'thinking about his lines', unlike other experienced BL actors I shall not mention.
If you have issue with the character maybe just take it out on the novel writer or director instead of attacking an actor who was paid to do exactly what the role requires?
I read the novels too and Pat is indeed a sensitive immature emotional young adult still navigating the work place. In fact, he cries a damn lot too in the novels! Pat is emotional and even throws tantrums! I assured you the Pat in the novels is even worst. Just like in the novel, Ben did exactly what he was hired for.
So if people have issues with the crying sulking Pat, then they better don't read the novel.
Go watch your other starter bl dramas on youtube instead.
I'm glad they found the right actors for Jeng and Pat!
Jeng is really boyfriend material! Man portrayed him as I imagined. The actors even have a 10 years age difference with Man and Ben!
The eye acting from the leads are amazing! If you can put down your phone and just watch the show as it is, you will catch several amazing subtleness eye acting from the cast. Even the supporting cast have amazing eye acting here. The cast must have a lot of workshops done to be able to restrain themselves and let their characters take over. Of course they are are comedic moments afterall this is a dramedy as well.
Bruce is amazing in this series as Chot! As a gay man myself, I can relate to the issues he faces like family acceptance (something Pat also faces too) and the pains of having a relationship with somebody who can't be out in real life.
Yes his character is campy AF but then, there are actual campy people in the lgbt community anyway so why not portray them and celebrate them onscreen? If they are funny and campy, then show it! Don't hide it and treat it as shame! And why should we not show it? Bruce was also able to bring out the humanity, patience and kindness of Chot. His portrayal of a grown gay guy in an 8 year relationship is just stunning. I hope he gets more meaty roles in the future!
Things I wished they included in the end: I want Jeng's parents to accept Pat. They have different meetings dramas too and eventually the mom comes around. I want the proposal! I want to see them having holidays overseas (maybe budget wise they couldn't do these stories.). I want the beautiful wedding too! It was SO touching in the novel! I wanna see Jaab and Jeng's brother relationship too. I wanna Jaab and Jen's storyline resolved too! I wanna see Chot's storyline too! So many storylines left undone and they just end it like this.
I guess it is really difficult for them to adapt properly from 3 Books into this series. In fact, they should had brought in story of Jeng's parents disapproval earlier, instead of wasting so much time on the Forge campaign, which is a SMALL part of the story.
They didn't even explain the Broccoli house storyline. That has a meaning too. I was kinda aw in my heart when I saw the Broccoli house because it has a special meaning. They just didn't even address that!!! The break up is fine because it sort of resets people back (that wasn't in the novel). But it happened within the episode that they are together? SO CRUEL!!! Director Tee why are you so cruel?
As for the lead actors, I really like watching their interviews online and they come across to me as very humble down to earth kind of dudes. They don't seemed to be that 'affected' or showy as compared to other BL actors. Just come across as kind genuine people!
And they didn't even have to do much fan service but just enjoying their real life friendship. I think it's very refreshing to see that for BL actors. I hope to see them in more projects in the future because they do have a fun natural chemistry too.
I completely agree, but I'm curious as to why you disliked House of Stars so much. I didn't enjoy La Pluie and…
I feel that HOS tries to take itself too seriously and the actors, some of them felt like they are just memorizing their lines. And way too many characters. Actually I see a parallel of this to 'Be Mine Superstar' but that series sets the campy tone from the start and is able to let their actors perform to their true campy comedic vibe. You should check out that one. I'm quite turned off by the recent GMMTV offerings like HA. I don't wanna say much unless I get attacked by their fans again. Sometimes they don't realized that we are also experienced BL watchers and we tend to judge it with our LGBT POV too. Not as a fangirl. I also finished Step By Step which was a true marathon(I love show burns too) but having read an English translation of the novel online before, I find that the character of Pat is EXACTLY like the novel. Which I don't understand the huge amount of hate that show is getting over here too. Too many childish fangirls commenting there. Having read the novel and seeing the actor emote exactly like a sensitive immature young adult, I don't see the issue. Of course, my opinion is unique because I am watching it as a gay guy and not a typical BL fangirl.
Why do BL fans hate camp so much? Both this and SCOY get the same amount of criticism for this but it’s all…
Totally! I love the Campy vibe of this show! At least it is honestly presented as it is. And I didn't know its illegal to show fantasy? What's wrong with showing us Punn's fantasy? It's just a comedy right? I'm watching this as a gay guy and this is so hilarious in the vein of American Pie, Sex Education vibes. People should lighten up when this series totally embrace the camp of Thai Lakorn. Those who said this is cringy shouldn't be watching BL at all. BLs are meant to be cringy anyway! This show is giving me early BL GMMTV vibes I really miss those shows!
I feel like episode 3 was definitely an improvement on the first two episodes, mainly because this one had less…
Yes I'm surprised this is better than last week! I have a feeling the cast is having fun and enjoying filming this show! It's so cute in some of the scenes!
What a turnaround from last week! Ep 3 is definitely a huge improvement to this series! And I'm getting the vibe of this show! It's so CAMP that it's actually quite fun to watch! I'm also starting to care about Punn's cute family too. Punn has such a supportive Mom!
JaFirst have a natural chemistry and it clearly shines. Ja is very likeable and I'm so glad he's about to show the caring side of Punn for his crew. They get straight to the story of a production house of stars (*ahem*)and waste no time in silly dialogues. At least they don't bombard us with so many characters. 3 main stars are enough and manageable for the viewers.
I'm starting to develop a liking to the cast also! Ashi's manager Somwan is so adorable and her frenemy Sompriao too. Hilarious experienced comedic actors! Whenever they interact it's a riot!
Punn and Ashi throwing and catching feelings. First's restrained and nuance acting skills shines here in portraying an idol who is guarded but he slowly begins to open up to Punn.
Bosston you are such treat too! Love your cheekiness in Mingmueang. The parody of them having a soap opera drama is just a delight! So fun!
There's a sweetness to this show and this is what BL should be. I really hope this will get better and better! I'm actually smiling while watching this show!
Joong could make a piece of cardboard fall in love. Dunk is an amazing model, and both have interesting chemistry…
Yup just like you, I also don't see the chemistry here compared to their previous work (Star In My Mind) which I actually like! This is not Dunk's first lead role so no excuses anymore.
I completely agree, but I'm curious as to why you disliked House of Stars so much. I didn't enjoy La Pluie and…
Honestly, HOS has too many unlikeable characters that I wouldn't care at all and the acting was over exaggerated too. I have a bunch of BLs to catch up too so it's an easy skip if the show doesn't capture my attention or when I start to pick up my phone. Nothing personal against the actors. I'm always very fair when it comes to actor's performance because I have friends who are actors and so maybe I'm very fair when it comes to that department. Like Hidden Agenda which is another disappointing new BL show. Sometimes the director can only do so much if the actors can't emote well or turns off the viewers with cringey acting. I wish sometimes their fans can be a bit more constructive and judge the show fairly like us experienced BL watchers.
Joong you deserved so much better than this. I hope you will have another fantastic project coming up! Louis, I hope you get a main lead too in the future. So underrated. The experienced supporting cast were great I wish they have a better series too but I guess this is just a gig for them too. Dropping this show now.
