I haven't watched the drama, but I did read the book. By the end of the novel, Sumo has grown into an adult and is well on his way to becoming a powerful mage. This transformation is all thanks to the spell book given to him by Zhu Yan when he was just a child. Interestingly, Shi Ying wrote this book specifically for her, including spells known only to the Jiuyi sect. Sumo, being a shark, initially struggled to read the book due to a spell cast by SY. However, with time, he eventually learned the spells and became immensely powerful with the help of the kongsang spells.
Mirror Twin takes place several decades after the events of the TLP book. Both SY and Zhu Yan have passed away, and Sumo returns to visit ZY's tomb. Sumo had been deeply in love with ZY. It is foretold that a catastrophe will befall kongsang after 70 years, and Sumo is the one responsible for bringing about this destruction. Sadly, SY and ZY only have 26 more years to live before this catastrophe occurs due to the split life blood curse that revived SY.
Surprisingly, the Sea Emperor is none other than Sumo himself. The Dragon God, who usually takes on a human form and resides within Sumo's body like a parasite, is unable to regain full control. It can't be chemistry in the first episodes due to the plot, RM is too young (15) and immature, and there is no bond, also their master-disciple kinda stops them to get to an intimate level in order to develop any sort of chemistry. But as episodes goes by, the connection develops furter and she grows into a confident girl while he grows fond of her unknowingly, showing slow paced and beautiful chemistry, which will explode and make your heart swoon by the episode 16-17 where they kiss. RM might not be this great beauty, but she is lovely and is a great actress, and XZ knew how to enter in sinergy with her.

I don't think she is ignorant, she is too good hearted to see her sister's evil schemes.

I can tell you my opinion. The drama has been greatly deviated, but somehow they still managed to stick to the plot close enough. It was expected to be so, because the novel is FL oriented while the drama is ML focused. In the novel, the FL is a big unsufferable bratty, quite unbearable in the first volume, but improves by a ton in the second. About the translation, I didn't read many chinese xianxia, I've read AOL, GMODC, and a couple others and based on that I can tell you is much better translated than those I've mentioned. But I'm biased, so maybe someone else can give their opinion.

LOL I think she is ok, perhaps we don't like her now because of too much screentime stolen from the main leads 😂
