I agree. I felt it would have been stronger with maybe 12 episodes instead of 16. Still liked it a lot though.

There is a German movie with a similar main plot. The English title is The Lives of Others. I wonder if the screenwriter was inspired by it.

Watched because it has the same screenwriter as Flower of Evil, which is a masterpiece. This one isn’t a masterpiece, merely a good drama.

Hmm…not sure. The thing about westerns is that immigrants arrived before there was a government presence. So armed gangs could operate pretty freely. From the sageuks I’ve seen there were state troops even on Jeju island. Plus there was no new land to acquire. A western would work better in Afghanistan than Korea.

If they ever make a western kdrama I’ll give it a chance though.

As soon as I saw Lee Sun Kyun was the lead I thought his wife/girlfriend will be cheating on him…and I was right.

Park Gyu Young was perfect for this role.

Haven’t watched any of these except Devil Judge (didn’t like). Still, it’s ok if a little air comes out of these possibly overinflated shows. Not everything can be a masterpiece, even if many people enjoyed them.

2 of my favourite historicals are based on this man’s books. Hope some of his other novels make it to the screen.
