A question to the good people of MDL:{Potential spoiler, I'm not sure.}...Was it just me, or did one of the perpetrators…
No, he didn’t kill himself - but this was likely reference to how her comments (that she was disappointed with him) had turned his world upside down, earlier on he was really distraught saying that to Mr Zhao
Anyone knows if the more we watch on Netflix, the more popular the series is? I assume that it is so. The more we rate the series highly there too, the more popular it will be, I think (I gave it two thumbs up there)
Unlike YouTube, Netflix isn't really transparent on details like popularity. They only show Global Top 10 details on views and hours watched on Netflix.
I only managed to find The On1y One being no. 8 most popular in Vietnam (and nowhere else) as of 1 September 2024.
My hope here is that for any possible upcoming Season 2, the Taiwanese and international fan support will be enough to launch a good Season 2 (and not end up having the second season cancelled like Stay With Me that I just found out very recently).
Will be re-reading the whole novel one more time. Will share more of my thoughts on it later.
What I can say is that, this series is very faithful to the original novel in most aspects. But as I mentioned before, due to it being an adaptation and different context (original being set in China versus the series being set in Taiwan), there has to be some unavoidable differences.
This episode was truly a masterclass in portraying the quiet, yet powerful, moments between them. It’s about…
Wonderful write-up as always! It's what I felt too :)
Oh ya, just a small point, but Sheng Wang's given name is actually Wang. So since you call Jiang Tian by his given name 'Tian', maybe you should call him 'Wang' too :D
Anyone familiar with Douban rating? Just not sure how the stars translate into rating (it's 4.7/10 there currently right?)
It's unbelievable that 44.6% of the people there rated it 1 star (probably many may not even have seen the series yet) and another13% rated it 2 stars.
Reading the translated comments... just unbelievable...
MDL rating is not “official “ rating I don’t think many actors or directors or critics even know about MDL.
I mentioned this some time before, that there are quite a few mention of Mainland Chinese companies and investors in the credits - and I hope that those investors won't be spooked by the poor Douban ratings, but take heed instead of its popularity elsewhere outside China (and beyond the novel die-hard fans)
Hope it will still rise more in the future. The On1y One deserves it.
Maybe it's because it has become 'their' moment together, now that they found their 'home' together? :)
EP 8 is the best yet so far.
It gives many layers that the novel alone cannot convey (like facial expressions, tears, and even how the words are spoken, the tone and everything).
Great acting can magnify a great novel scene manyfold.
The official IG for The On1y One just posted these pictures from the upcoming episodes!

Half of the comments are about 'The On1y One Season 2 / Mou Mou Season 2'? :D

Plus, I believe this is one of the highest no. of likes I've seen on a comment in MDL. Well done! :)
