That is one good possibility. I have been fooled by GMMTV final episode trailer before, and this may be the same case. To build up the suspense to the revelation that in truth, Thee and Lady Pa never got married in the end.
While the story may change from the original novel - there was also a lot of misunderstandings between Thee and Rati in the original story, so I won't discount the whole thing on Rati thinking that Thee had married Lady Pa being a misunderstanding either.

Glad that I managed to get the novel and read the story, especially the ending. The ending is a really happy ending despite the path to it being quite painful and hard. Rati and Thee ended up being together and Thee's family no longer forcing him to marry, and they were together in the end, in both France and Siam.
I am not sure how much/faithful the series version will be compared to the original novel. Although I do hope that there will be similar happy ending to Thee and Rati.

While there is no confirmation of Season 2 yet, this is the clearest signal so far that all are ready for Season 2, and we may have announcement on it soon.

I just finished watching EP 12 ending again, and to be honest, that final moment is a very good wrap of this 12 episode season. And for me it's a good ending for this stage of their relationship. Not every story/part of story must end with 'and they live happily ever after as a couple' to be a good ending.
Jiang Tian fixing the bracelet and saying, 'Sheng Wang, I'll wait for your return' while the Chinese poem by Su Dongpo being read in the background, timed nicely and alluding to this 'courage for facing one's challenges and looking forward to a better future'
This is showing that Jiang Tian didn't rebuild the wall that had been broken by Sheng Wang. He accepted fully his feelings, despite the trauma that he might have had, or any painful relationship experience he had before (with his family) - he had faith in his relationship with Sheng Wang, and from the earlier encounters and conversations they had in EP 12 (both spoken and unspoken), Jiang Tian knew that Sheng Wang is facing the same struggle too, and that Sheng Wang liked him in the same way too.

And Sheng Wang saying 'to be secretly in love is one's personal turmoil - because I like you so much, I feel like I am facing an abyss, walking on a thin ice' - is a clear admission that he loved Jiang Tian and accepted that, and he managed to clear and overcome the struggles he had earlier (as he continued on saying that 'he's just 17... there's nothing he can't do and no obstacle he can't overcome'), which also mirrors Jiang Tian's closure, by showing that he also accepted his relationship with Jiang Tian, and will fight for it and towards it (with patience and perseverance)
That also foreshadows the later events in Season 2 that novel readers (like me) know well - but with this development, it is what I feel help them to endure the even more difficult challenge they would face later on before they would finally get together and be truly happy in the second half of Season 2 (which I predict how it will turn out to be).
From the perspective of the story, character development and all (plus in line with the novel story that the director has been following very meticulously), what happened in EP 12 was part of the development of both characters' relationship with each other.
It is indeed part of a teenager's discovery of love and managing expectations of the society around him at the same time. When you are in love with someone who is supposedly your stepbrother (but to make it clear on this, this is never meant to be as their respective parents would separate before they even got married), coupled with the fact that you're liking a guy (which wasn't and even today is still not the norm), it is what is expected how Sheng Wang would have behaved.
On Jiang Tian's side, we have seen the backstory of his trauma at the end of EP 11. That and his poor childhood experience, of him building a 'high wall' around himself, and him having opened his heart for the first time and made himself vulnerable, to a person that is his 'love at the first sight' - all the way back to EP 1 - it is also expected just how upset Jiang Tian was and it was evident throughout EP 12.
But if we look at the title of EP 12, it all made sense - 'New Beginning: Pain is Necessary for Rebirth'
We should consider the fact that they are now crossing the threshold, from friend to officially dating with each other (coming up in Season 2) - to cross this barrier is something that many if not most people also struggle with. But this 'pain of separation' in context of the story is indeed what Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang needed to make them fully realise that their love for one another is real, and is not merely infatuation, and that this love isn't just supposedly 'brotherly love' but a romantic one.
And by the end of EP 12, at the end of Season 1 - we can see that both of them accepted this fact (that they love one another). Which is a good way (for me) to suspend this story at this moment - to prepare for the acceptance and reunion in the next season.
Seeing how so many people are looking forward/wanting for Season 2, I guess that the decision to end the Season 1 at that point in the story indeed has its merits!
Now we should continue supporting the series and hope that Season 2 come sooner (it may even have already been filmed, but they withhold this info to drive audience interest to watch Season 2 😊)

Which is why we need to keep supporting and showing that there is a huge demand for Season 2. With that, even if their supposed financial goal has been achieved - it will give stimulus for sponsors to continue supporting and more.
I just want to reassure everyone: I am quite confident that Season 2 will come out (and maybe even sooner than you think, but do be patient)

Yes, exactly. Here we have a series where the director is really taking his time to flesh out all the story and where even the side characters have good character development and did not feel like they were merely props or bystanders.
