I have problem with these how can they every morning leave wihout eating such delicious breakfast? Are they even…
Remember that Sheng Wang is a very picky eater (mentioned a few times before), and it's mentioned at beginning of EP 6 that Sheng Wang finally ate the whole bowl of porridge Jiang Tian's mum ate.
With regards to Jiang Tian, I believe that he prefers familiarity (like at Old Man Ding's house) rather than eating his mom's food - plus the well-known fact that his mom's cooking has a lot to be improved on XD
If development phase and those looks between Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang alone can carry so much meaning, tension and lots of wonderful moments...
Imagine how powerful their romance would be like (and if there's any angst to come, after all these episodes spent on developing their character and relationship - how heartbreaking they can be)
Glad to see that this series is getting much more love as the episodes progress :)
And happy to hear that part from EP 4 again right at the end of EP 6:
'If there's only one person in the world who can understand what you say, then he's more important than anyone else' - and how back in EP 4 this has a hidden meaning, referring to Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang (as a prefigurement)
And as I predicted, EP 6 is indeed a turning point in their relationship. From now on, Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang is going to get a lot closer (and more openly embracing their affection for each other)
That ‘come out of the closet’ moment in EP 4 and the piggyback scene in EP 5:Both these scenes showed the…
Having read a significant part of the novel - I feel that Jiang Tian isn’t homophobic unlike what some had mentioned earlier. Even in the original novel, his displeasure was more personally directed at his dad who neglected him and his family.
It was the mom that may be more horrified at her son (Jiang Tian) getting together with another man, just like how her ex-husband (Ji Huanyu) slept with another man.
So from the series interpretation, it seems that Jiang Tian is also afraid that his mom will know about his growing fondness for Sheng Wang.
That ‘come out of the closet’ moment in EP 4 and the piggyback scene in EP 5:
Both these scenes showed the budding romance and love between Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang - it is rather obvious (those eyes and stares, Jiang Tian’s expressions)
They are getting closer to each other (and I feel a breakthrough will happen in EP 6) and at the same time, hiding this fact from each of their parents.
One of my interpretation of the Bernoulli’s Principle mentioned throughout EP 5:
The two balls obviously represent Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian - they were brought together because of their father and mother choosing to cohabit together - and because of that they were drawn together and eventually became closer.
But once they move out of the house (staying in the accommodation) then they may not have as much opportunity to spend time together anymore - and their fleeting moments and growing affection with each other may come to an end.
It is something that Sheng Wang dreaded because he was used to separation and moving places to places, and he hated the ‘wasted effort’ of having tried to come close to Jiang Tian, and then to have it all taken away from him again.
I even saw complaint on how this story isn’t real because it doesn’t show gays being treated badly or bullied (I think with just 4 episodes having been aired so far, it is too early to say this with still 8 more episodes to go).
Plus, I believe it’s not the intention of the original novel author (Musuli) and the director for the story to turn out that way. It's meant to showcase love that gradually develops through fateful encounter (in school and family) and interactions, and how that love endures eventually despite the challenges and hardships the main leads would have to face (yes, there is likely angst and painful parts to come, without spoiling much)
But ultimately, it's meant to be an uplifting story to inspire many of us who are struggling in our own relationships and life that we do not give up on our love even if we may have to face struggles and hardships in that journey. It's not meant to be a documentary on persecution of homosexuals (especially considering that this is produced and aired in Taiwan, one of the most liberal parts of Asia and even the world in this regard)
Chill people... if you like the show, good. If you dislike it, no need to keep on repeating it again and again trying to make as if this series is like really bad or terrible when objectively it isn't.
Example: no chemistry, leads are too old, too much school emphasis and story, focus too much on teachers, having unnecessary scenes, too slow burn, story too slow or boring, screenwriting and editing are terrible, and many more I have seen down the comments.
(Maybe to some of you it feels that way, but there are those of us who don't feel that way, in fact exactly opposite as I mentioned before)
Again, each one of us have our own opinions and perspectives, but how we write it down here in MDL is important.
Just want to keep all of us sharing our thoughts on this series. Yes, some of us may indeed find it boring, or didn't like this series for whatever other reason. It's your right to do so.
But at the same time, I also want to point out that many like myself find this series to be really enjoyable, refreshing and engaging, and as some has put it below, a breath of fresh air amidst many other usual BL series tropes.
This one truly feels real, and the characters well acted and made alive by the actors and the efforts the production team put into fleshing out the character. What some may find boring about doing their exams, studying and all other activities teenagers of their age had done, to me, it hit real in the heart, and it truly feels relatable.
After all, didn't many of us have attraction/romance experience in high school, even when navigating through all the intense academic requirements, tests and all that? :)
anyone understands the looks exchanged after the egg incident ? I feel like im missing something
When Jiang Tian asked his mum to cook the egg a bit more (shu yi dian) at the beginning of EP 4, the character 'shu' (熟) is indeed the same character as the one Jiang Tian used at the end of EP 3 (perhaps we can get closer a bit/get familiar with each other - also shu yi dian)
Just saw on X/Twitter and found someone who pointed out the detail that when Jiang Tian asked his mum to cook the egg a bit more (shu yi dian) at the beginning of EP 4, the character 'shu' (熟) is indeed the same character as the one Jiang Tian used at the end of EP 3 (perhaps we can get closer a bit/get familiar with each other - also shu yi dian)
It is a very clever play of words, and I didn't fully notice it until I rewatch and got that insight. That is part of the beauty of this series - with a lot of small details from words, expressions, cultural nuances and the facial gestures that make this series' story and character truly deep.
To fully appreciate and understand this series, don't just look at the superficials! This is why this forum is precisely where we can share these small details and help one another to understand the story better :)
(Plus for me, this series really has very good rewatchability too - it is very comfortable to rewatch, and every time I rewatch, I understand the story even better, noticing details I missed out earlier on)
While I agree that different people may have different perspectives and opinions, and everyone are entitled to theirs...
I am still kinda baffled when I see comments like there is no chemistry between the main leads, the story and development being dull, or nothing interesting is happening, or the romance is going too slow. I don't know but I somehow don't feel like we're watching the same series, somehow.
That's because for me, I feel exactly opposite of what I had described above as I watched the first four episodes. Well, no series is perfect and can satisfy everyone, after all :(
I personally think that most/vast majority of people are enjoying this series and are excited of what is to come in the next eight episodes.
With regards to Jiang Tian, I believe that he prefers familiarity (like at Old Man Ding's house) rather than eating his mom's food - plus the well-known fact that his mom's cooking has a lot to be improved on XD
And we hope they can flesh out their story to the fullest.

The parents thought that by ending their engagement and their relationship could stop their respective sons from liking each other.

It’s building us up to a bigger event coming up in EP 6 tomorrow. That rather cliffhanger end is classic for building up suspense for this.
I feel that there may be a significant change in their relationship coming up in EP 6. Just my opinion.
