Ok my thoughts is the still same like the first time I post - complex but….. I love it and I felt like smacking…
I agree its complex, but i thinking its trying to show that they don't live in vacuum and that they can't simply ignore their own insecurities and family objections. I think this makes the drama more realistic. Equally it should make the payoff all the more rewarding when they resolve their issues.
Any comparison or expectation that this drama is like Hidden Love will leave people disappointed. Its trying to compare apples to oranges. Hidden Love is a sweet story with limited angst and misunderstanding. The challenges faced are easier to overcome. FOMH is so far, more about untangling of emotions on a deeper level with there being many reasons for the leads not to try again. Its asking the question - Do you want to try again despite their own fears and family objections?
Both dramas are enjoyable but they are very different.
It means the chemistry between the leads is different as well. In HL the chemistry starts from hope. Hope for acceptance. FOMH starts from fear, fear of being hurt again. At least this is how both drama's have seemed to me (so far)
It has been a really thoughtful adaptation in this way. Some of the characters were not fleshed out in the book…
I've not read the novel so my only reference is the drama, however I think "Thoughtful" is a great way to describe this drama so far. If they have managed to capture the emotions of the novel then that would appear to be a real positive. So many adaptations fail because they can't capture the emotion of what the author was trying to convey.
For me, the difference between a good drama and a bad one is if I care/relate or at least I'm engaged by the character. Even drama's with obvious flaws can be salvaged by great characters. Unfortunately, I just don't care or about any of these characters anymore. The actors deserved a better script and better direction than they were given .
I think one of things I've enjoyed the most so far is that they have tried to make the main leads into real people, with all the real feelings and insecurities we all have. This helps make the show more believable. (Whilst helping to build the anticipation as to what's to come)
In some drama's there's only a cursory effort to do this and it can make the characters a little one dimensional.
Pleased that character building has been part of the drama so far.
Waited impatiently for this drama. Ended up with -
*Nonsensical plot *Characters that basically appear stupid or at the very least naïve if I'm being kind *So much of what makes the donghua interesting is missing * Sadly I can't think of one "Wow" moment so far in this show, a moment that made me want to re-watch what just happened.
Going to to stick with it to the end in more hope than expectation, but cant help but feel this was a massive missed opportunity to make a great drama. Sigh..........
