Call me a stupid American if this is insensitive, but is it at all problematic that Chen Hui is somewhat dark-skinned and a bad/morally gray character? Does it touch on stereotyping?

Or is he actually more mainstream in appearance and "dark" when compared to actors and actresses who just stepped out of hair and makeup?

Marketing is more than official releases and advertising. They know there's an established international identity and will have to reacquaint that potential audience with a new, vastly different title that they've been following for a long time.

Of course, they might not give a darn about that international audience.

I understand the convention, but surely the producers knew the drama has been publicized since production began as A Cup of Love. If they didn't like that title, they should have promoted a different name. Really, we're talking Marketing 101 here. Way to confuse fans just before release. It's self-sabotage.

About this scene specifically, when comparing Xu Kai's reading with the voice actor's, how "off" is Xu Kai in his pronunciation and intonation?

I do know that he's been trying to erase the Cantonese influence in his speech for a while now. Even before he started acting, he'd begun to drop his use of Cantonese in school because he was afraid of being teased by Cantonese-fluent classmates.

Obviously, Xu Kai has made great strides in improving his Mandarin "voice," as we'll soon witness in A Cup of Love."

Same. We'll likely get lots more Xu Kai in 800 Meters and Fire Investigator at 20 and 24 episodes respectively than in Cup's 30.

But, aren't we used to it by now? If Xu Kai enjoyed the experience, I'm happy for him and look forward to A Cup of Love as well as the rest of his upcoming dramas.

But this is the first time we'll get to "hear" Xu Kai 8n a costume drama!
